  1. Eventually I will, making mine mostly by hand.. stamping the dragon then hand-doing the reverse. Then sealing with lacquer spray.

I doubt anyone would care for them (shrugs) but who knows. I'll post here when I get the pics up.

  4. Just wanted to bump in on your trade discussions and ask what the oppinion was of those who leave thier sig. items in a cache.....

Do you leave them there with the purpose of someone trading them out or for the owner of the cache?

I leave them for whoever gets there first. :(

The worst thing is if nobody takes them and they just sit.

    B) I'd have to agree, sometimes I'll leave two if I really like the cache. B)

I take them as I like to collect sig items. I only have a few I have found in caches. Since there is no possible way I can afford to mint a coin maybe I should try to make a wooden coin set. I got one coin in a cache that seems to have a sticker on the surface. What is your opinion of this compared to one that has been stamped?

I collect sig items too. In fact I'll grab almost anything that has another players name on it. I used to like the inked nickels best, printed or screened, but the ones with the stickers can have much more detail and color. Hand made ones are really the coolest. People take the time and put effort into making them, and they turn out really nice. Sculpys are cool too.

No it's not OK that one of them was broken. Please, email me your address again and I'll send you another one. No problem at all!

  6. First of all, a little background. You have to understand that I am the badluck queen! I started out with the yellow etrex about three years ago, and it worked great until I dropped it on my front porch and it cracked the LCD. My joke is that you can bash them around in the rocks all day, but you drop it once on the porch and that's it. Anyway, I only went in to the sporting goods store to get the address to send it to, honest! They had a blue one for sale that was a factory reconditioned model and so I bought it to use until I got old yellow repaired. I had it for about 5 weeks when I started getting a bar code across the screen, so I sent it in, via the sporting goods store. They had it for almost two months before I made a call where I actually said, "Look it's been two months." It got lost somewhere. Come on in for a store credit they said, and that's when I upgraded to a Legend C. Great little unit in my opinion except for all the trouble I've had with it. Seriously, I really liked it, and everything was working great for about 5 months, until I bought a 12 volt adapter cord for it. All of a sudden it wouldn't boot...at all. I sent it back and Garmin sent me a new one. I had it for about 3 months before it started acting really wacky. The arrow would point the wrong way, or dissapear completely, but the distance would continue to count down. It would lose signal in the middle of an open field, and get warm to the touch. I called Garmin again and told them what was going on. I realized that the trouble must be the Garmin 12 volt adapter cord that I bought for it. I guess I must have talked to the right guy. I sent it in. They sent me back a new one, along with a set of new cords, a battery charger kit with 4 batteries, and a really cool strech holster with a carabiner on it.

Kudos to Garmin customer service!

  7. Aw shucks! I've traded with all you guys, and they've all been outstanding! Would you all prefer I post here over sending my thanks in an email? Just curious. I could be having an attack of poor ettiquete due to ignorance.

  9. I have been trading so many nickels that I'm worried I may have missed sending some out. I've tried to keep close track but I still have that itching suspicion.... If anyone didn't get theirs please let me know. I just sent out 5 more packages yesterday, (sorry they were late). I'm still making trades, so anyone interested should send me an email.

  10. I had my first 250 wooden nickels done by wooden-nickel.com. They made me two nice rubber stamps as well for a total of $125, and they were very nicely done. Then I had some blanks and I thought I would try to stamp them. I had trouble getting the ink to dry, and finally sprayed them with an acrylic to keep them from smearing. I decided my time was worth more than that, especially after I gave in and re-ordered. Because I was a repeat customer and they already had my graphics, it cost me the same amount as the first order to get one thousand of them done. I just can't make them for that, and they turn out much nicer than anything I could do. Time IS money.

  11. Well, we finally did it! We had our own wooden nickel made! We have just a few for trade, because we intend to drop most of them in caches! Would be interested in trading a few, though, if you would send a pic of your coin. Mainly looking for coins from Texas, but will look at others, too!

***I keep trying to post a pic of mine here, but can't seem to figure it out. HELP!!!!!!!****

    I sent one too!

  12. Would anyone like to trade for one of our wooden nickels? Also, I was wondering how you package them for mailing. I've mailed coins before but it seems like the wooden nickels wouldn't need as much protection since they're so much lighter, but I may be wrong...

E-mailed you for a trade! =o) I send some in padded mailers, but If I am out of them I take an index card folded in half and tape the nickel in/on it (and tape around it kinda like it's own envelope) and put it in a regular Envelope, I talked to the postmaster here and she said to just make sure to write on the front of the envelope that it's Fragile and to Please Hand Cancel. Otherwise the wooden nickel will get jammed up in the sorting machines. I have received a few broken nickels and mangled envelopes that weren't marked fragile. Those sorting machines must be ruthless.

One of the biggest problems is that they aren't thin enough to go through the machines so they not only jam it up, they bugger up a few envelopes behind it too. I have written HAND CANCEL in big red letters in the lower right corner of the envelope, and sometimes it still gets sent through the machines. I have found that the best thing to do is wait in line (I know, it's a drag) and hand it through the window. They hand cancel it right there and put it into a separate box for sorting. I haven't lost any since I started doing that. It should also be noted that it cost an extra 13 cents postage for a hand canceled envelope. The lady at my post office recognizes me now, and she just gets her stamp out! :P She has started asking questions about it, and I promised to bring one in for her next time I mail them out. :( Maybe we'll have a new cacher soon.
