  1. Do your kids really participate in the caching game?

Shifty is 4 and does participate. He wants to help, usually put him in charge of something. (this already cost me 1 compass  )

Are they really interested in seeking the treasure?

Yea, thats the fun for him I think. Longest so far was 2 miles round trip, he needed a little help to finish that one.

Do you let them use the GPSr?

Good god man, are you crazy? Ok, yea sometimes.

When they use the GPSr, what do you do?

Sweat, nag and basically be as overbearing and overprotective as possible.(Worried about my GPSr, of course)

Do you allow your kids to have a personal account?

And subject him to this crowd? Never. Ok, he is only 4.

Do your kids help plan geocaching trips?

    Not really.

How old do you think kids should be before they are allowed to cache without supervision?

    37

Do you know of any organizations built around kids and caching?

I believe the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are becoming envolved. There are several caches in my area placed by troops.

  2. I learn from my Dan Quayle quotes! I have learned that when we went to the moon, we finally entered the solar system. He also taught me that by failing we run the risk of failure! He also showed me that a low voter turnout means that fewer people are going to the polls. He also said that space for NASA is still a high priority. He was the smartest vice president we ever had and everybody should sing the praises of Dan Quayle!

You say Potatoe, I say Tomatoe.

  3. Normally one would expect a growth curve to be exponential, but this curve does not fit an exponential.  Instead, it fits very well to a power function with an exponent very close to 2.  Here's a plot of the square root of caches versus time:

So what could give rise to such a curve?

Well, from scaling arguments, you get this curve if the number of caches submitted each week (or whatever time period you choose) is increasing linearly with time.  Which would imply, if you assume that active cachers submit caches at a constant rate, that the number of active cachers ios increasing linearly with time.

    continued in next message...

We don't create and submit caches at a constant rate.

Not true. GeoSnuggler has created, placed and had approved 1 cache per month since November of 2001. His latest SnuggleUpiCus marks the 25th consecutive cache for him. If this isn't "creating and submiting caches at a constant rate" then what is?

  4. What's with all the dead mice? There must be something wrong with them cause not even the crows will touch then. Have the parks been been poisoning them? fertilizer/pesticide? have they been chewing on toxic plastic cache containers? or maybe some kind of derranged pyed piper? They appear to be domestic mice littered around the lookout parking lot and near the fagpole. I'm baffed?

You have to be kidding. You are kidding, right? RIGHT?

  5. Slightly off topic BUT: Ani and I where sitting at a resturaunt bar the other night eating dinner. (I won't say what chain it was but we where there on FRIDAY, and the food was lousy) Anyhow, there was a man and woman accross from us drinking and having a friendly yet animated conversation. WAY to much eye contact. Both wearing wedding rings. I am watching all this and thinking it when Ani says "They are not married." My reply was "of course not, he is actually listening to what she is saying." Funny to me that we all think we can pick out the cheaters.

  6. Oh-oh. The H word.

And this is one reason threads get locked. There's always a few who refuse to be ignored, and just keep poking and poking and poking...

It's a strange fascination to have, in my opinion.

Well you are the one that said they are poking, not me. I didn't really want to say it like that though. ;-)

    ROTFLMAO!
