  1. Try EasyGPS. Its free, easy and it works!

Sends my pocket queries to my Garmin Zumo and 60CSx with no problems.

Click "send to device" and you're done.

I went to the easygps web site to look around , it appears that it does not send to palm/cachemate :D ,is there another free app, besides gsak (not free)that will work? :anicute:

  2. I have been away from caching for numerous personal reasons. I still need to log some finds from last year.My premium membership is due to expire next week and being unemployed at this time I cant afford to renew. :anibad: So will I still be able to log old and new finds, and just not be able to do pQ's? anything I else I am over looking? Thanks :D Dennis

The only thing you will miss as a regular non-paying member is the PQ's and some of the other premium features. This will not effect your logging abilities at all. If you found any "premium member only" caches, you need to log these before your membership expires. After that a regular member can not see the "PMO" cache pages.

Good luck with your unemployment, I know how it is. I have been on rolling unemployment since Thanksgiving. With the longest down time of 2 months.

Thanks for the quick answer. :anicute:

  3. More times than I want to admit. The one that comes to mind that made me stop the "Dam the torpedoes,Full speed ahead." I needed to be on the other side of a 100 yd wide field full of head high growth. My choices were, bushwhack straight across or walk around the edge of the field on a mowed path. So ,,, after the bushwhack I found the cache, set down to log on the PDA. Thats when I notice the empty cellphone holder on my belt .I finish the logging and stsrt retracing my steps back through the field knowing I was wasting my time but see the above quote. an hour later I give up and head home with no phone ,two deer ticks and more chiggers than I have ever had in my life. Now I will ALWAYS look for an easier way.

  5. My handspring visor delux palm o/s is now a brick .I am now trying to decide weather to buy a m500 b&w or a m515 color screen. I have read many posts about the color screen washing out in bright sunlight. SO my question is to all the color screen users if you had it to do all over again would you get the color or the black &white. Is the washing out really that bad. THANKS

  7. In late august this past summer I was caching in a wooded hiking religious retreat area that is loaded with caches. It was late afternoon I had been there since mid morning having a great time and much success bushwhacking from cache to cache.I set down to sign the log at my latest find when I noticed I still had my holder for my cell phone on my belt but it was empty,I know not really a great loss, I knew a was only a couple of miles from the truck, but I was out by myself and no one knew where I was. I didn't have a panic attack but I had a very uncomfortable feeling.I back tracked the field I had just cut across, but with chest high weeds that was a waste of time. I headed back to the truck, told my story when I got home, endured unending ribbing from my family ,got a new phone. The next day I found 2 deer ticks on me ,went to the DR. no problems.I haven't been caching since.(Lots of little things). But I will be back out this spring when it warms up (I HATE cold weather.) I think I will be doing things a little differently now though. All is well come on summer!!!! ;)

  8. We are newbies that have fallen in love with geocaching! Currently, we print off a full page of info for each cache we search for, which is adding up to a lot of paper and a lot of ink! I know there must be a better way.

I have a Handspring Visor, but I don't know how (or if it's possible) to load the info onto it. Or is it possible to load the clues onto my GPS? We have a Garmin etrex Legend.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I use a handspring visor also. you need to go to smittyware.com and purchase and download"cachemate" for palm o/s.$10.00 well worth it!!!

  10. I've tried a variety of adhsives, gorilla glue, 5 minute epoxy, PC7, PC11, Marine Goop and others but they all fail eventually.

I've found that the best way is just to put the magnet inside the container and use a little duct tape to hold it in place. Depending on the containers size two to four rare earth magnets in the lid will hold a container in place place.

that one should be easy enough to find :D:D:D:D:D:P:D

  11. Cachemate is an excellent and easy way to do it. Note that despite what many people will tell you, you don't need to use GSAK along with Cachemate.

do you get the same info into cachemate without gsak? if so what are the steps to do so ?thanks

patiently waiting for an answer ,Please..

You use the cmconvert utility. There is a command line based version and a windows based version. I think both are in the distribution, if not you can get the window gui version from the smittyware site for free. It converts your PQ's to palm .pdb.

    Jim

thanks I'll check that out. I was aware of the cmconvert but I hade no idea where to find it . THANKS

  12. I can only answer that if they install from the set up disc, yes , as I have been using this gps all summer. About the usb port, I may not be using the same one each time, but I did try both last night. Is using the same port each time required? (not a problem just asking.) How do I go about reassociating the gps to the correct port? thanks for you help.

  13. I plug cable into gps, I plug cable into pc usb port,I turn on gps, pc finds new hardware, says please run setup disc. I had said this happens EVERY time, not quit true, I think one time before I had connected and everything connected no problems and I updated from gsak and went on my way. Last night I wanted to load new caches I connected cp wanted setup disc. put disc in ,it started to load ,window came up said it needed "gpsusb please type in path" . I dont know where to look for that answer. Yes I know I did not include that in O P ,felt that was two separt problems ,But since you asked..... Thanks for any help you can offer

  14. If you could hook up with a local cacher that would take you out a few times so you could get a feel for the sport, then come decision time thing would be a little easer. My point being if you can afford a map 60 or similar unit you will much happer with it from day one.Plus you will not have invested $100.00 + in a lesser unit that you no longer want or use, and want to sell so you can then upgrade to the better unit. I have found that when I try to save some money it usally winds up costing me more in the long run. Welcome to caching.
