  1. I've observed the same need for recalibration on my 60Csx compass, even when I check the display repeatedly in my backyard. I just recalibrate, since it's easy to do. It would be interesting to hear other 60Csx owners weigh in on this. Cheers, Jim
  2. You can check out this thread for closeup of installed Zagg protector: Invisible Shield, Garmin 60CSx, Anybody have a pic? I agree with the above posters, Zagg is the way to go. I'm still happy with mine, a few nicks in the Invisible Shield here and there, but bezel is untouched. Cheers, Jim
  3. Thanks fourbeers for your suggestion, but: Appears that SportTracks will not export the post-processed (smoothed) gpx track.......only the original imported pre-processed track will be exported. I subscribe to other hike sharing sites, so I'd like to be able to get the post-processed gpx file out of the app. Any thoughts, anyone? Cheers, Jim
  4. Is there any software available that will smooth the elevation data that is recorded in a GPSr's tracklog? I am suspicious that the ascent (climbing feet) data reported by the GPSr and other software which simply accumulates the positive differences in elevation changes is overstated, due to scatter in data acquisition. I recently completed a hike which reported 3160 climbing feet, and I computed 1800 by simply taking the differences between max & mins on ascent profile. Admittedly there are some minor ups and downs that I overlooked by using the max and mins, but I also ovelooked the scatter in elevation data acquisition, which I think significantly overstates the ascent. For example, I have a Garmin 60Csx which has a barometric altimeter which probably improves the reported ascent by reducing the satellite scatter due to multipath, limited view of horizons, and poor constellation orientation. I recorded 40 minutes of standstill data (after letting the elevation settle for an hour or so), and recorded 262 feet of ascent.....standing still!!! Note the scatter that is 100% of the climbing feet reported. Are there any elevation smoothing proggies, that can post process a track log? Cheers, Jim
  5. Thanks guys for your help. The internal memory vs external sounds familiar, and hope to remember this time. Also, knowing that the waypoints get added to my GPSr waypoint list is helpful, since there are over 20 waypoints which I'll have to delete when I'm done with the track. Thanks again. Cheers, Jim
  6. Can a gpx track that I downloaded from the web on my mSD card, which includes waypoints, be displayed on my 60Csx? I'm sure this has been asked before, and ask that you cut me some slack....just have not been able to find it with the Groundspeak search engine. Do I need to use Mapsource to send it to my GPSr? If so will the embedded waypoints be added to my list of waypoints in my GPSr? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Jim
  7. For what it's worth, comparison of BC-900 & MH-C9000 by one user: NLee the engineer Cheers, Jim
  8. Just a word of thanks to Kooskoos.......Everytrail.com is everything I wanted. Does a great job on geotagged photos, and enjoy the sharing features. Cheers, Jim
  9. Somebody in this forum recommended Geosetter and I never went back to using GPicSync. Geosetter is free, and has quite a bundle of features. You might want to check it out also. Cheers, Jim
  10. I am trying KoosKoos's suggestion of Everytrail.com, which on first glance appears to offer what I am looking for.....a trail sharing site that recognizes geotagged pics. It also offers some stats similar to uTrack.com which is really nice. With regard to xxgg's question regarding what I'm looking for: I want to be able to share a hike like the image below, with all the data files and photo residing on the hosting website. I don't want to create a bloated Google Earth kmz file for example, with all the photos and track data in the file. The kmz files can grow very large when you include photos, and make sharing with email difficult. So I want to share, like the image below, tracks and geotagged pics, with the data residing on a hosting site. Thanks, & Cheers! Jim
  11. Are there any hosting sites that recognize geotagged pics and associated track files? PBase.com recognizes geotagged pics and maps them, but does not show track logs. MapBuzz.com shows tracklogs, but does not recognize the geotagged pics. ExpertGPS recognizes geotagged pic and tracklogs, but does not share on website. Is there a sharing site that does it all? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Jim
  12. Just a followup on the previous poster's thoughts.......with Garmin products you DO NOT have to match the datum of the software and GPSr. Rec'd the following from tech support (and it does make sense): Thank you for contacting Garmin International. When you transfer waypoints from the 60CSx into Mapsource, Mapsource will convert the waypoints to datum Mapsource is using. Most other programs will either automatically covert the points to the other datum or give you an error message asking you to change the datum before the answer. Yes, the datum must match your mapping software. It's almost not important when using electronic maps as they mostly use WGS84. It really only comes into play when you try to pencil plot a waypoint on a paper map. The difference can be a hundred meters or so and that is a big deal on paper. Well really you could still be 100 feet off, not 50 feet. And if you are perfectly in the wrong spot and the cache is in the wrong spot you really could be 200 feet off.
  13. Has anyone had problems with non-Garmin maps, as other posters experienced in other forums? "Didn't work for me - I was glad I still had the last version stored away for safe keeping as this new version would not start up, complaining about the existence of non-Garmin maps. Back to 6.13.7 for me." Cheers, Jim
  14. Just a followup question on the datum discussion........does the GPSr (Garmin) datum setting have to match the mapping software datum (Mapsource, MapTech, ExpertGPS, etc) when transferring waypoints? Stated another way, does the software in the GPSr and mapping software coordinate differences in datum settings? Thanks, and Cheers, Jim
  15. Why not check out the eBay feedback of others that bought the charger.....even contact them?
  16. Ordered Invisible Shield on-line on Jun28 and rec'd Jul 5..........6 business days. ZAGG responded to my emails with questions the next day. ZAGG Installation Cheers, Jim
  17. Technological churn....help the economy out (and Gramin stock) and buy one..........
  18. There is an Amazon customer discussion group for the LaCrosse BC-900 at: Amazon Group
  19. Yes....read: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=2396985 I've got categories I've added on my 60CSx microSD card including rest stops, and ATMs. Cheers, Jim
  20. Installed the Invisible Shield on my 60CSx, and was pleased with the ease of installation, and ZAGG's "precision cut" on the double curve on the bottom. Now I'll see how the protection holds up. Thanks for the posts advising about the availability of this product. By the way, I screwed around with the contrast on the image to exaggerate the edges of the screen....does not really look as edgy as the image below. Cheers, Jim
  21. I've got Garmin's Topo08 and you cannot use the Topo08 roads for auto-routing. Cheers, Jim
  22. I do not have any experience with "different program for each of the 4 slots at once"...never needed or sought this feature. But in answer to your question, the LaCrosse BC-900 guide says: Charging/ Discharging functions can be launched independently and simultaneously to each rechargeable battery in the compartments. Various display modes during charging/ discharging – the charging current (in mA), time elapsed (in hh:mm), the terminal voltage (in V) and accumulated capacities (in mAh or Ah). Cheers, Jim
  23. I routinely charge a single, separate Eneloop in a LaCrosse BC-900. From the BC-900 user's guide: "CHARGE MODE Charging at 200 mA is the default-operating mode of the charging unit. When only one or two rechargeable batteries are charged, provided that only compartment 1 and compartment 4 are used, a charging current up to 1500 or 1800 mA may be set by the pressing the CURRENT key. On the other hand, when charging three or four rechargeable batteries at the same time, user may select a charging current of 200, 500, 700 or 1000 mA." Cheers, Jim
  24. Thanks Guys, I've got one on order, and I was wondering about the double-curve at the bottom of the bezel......you answered my question. Cheers, Jim
  25. Can someone post a pic of the Shield installed on a 60CSx? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Jim
