Well if you're going to go for the YOSM in Northern Ireland then you'll almost certainly be going within a mile of a traditional cache, so you could probably pick one up with little effort to keep the souvenir "legitimate". As YOSMs are virtuals which move around it may well be that you wouldn't "earn" a souvenir. If you want a Northern Ireland souvenir I would suggest that you follow MartyBartfast's suggestion of getting a nearby traditional.

As it happens, I am intending to try the first option! I am travelling to Belfast a week on Monday and will be in Northern Ireland for three nights so, unless I have the most disastrous "caching trip" ever, I should qualify for the souvenir!! I did once before have a similar situation when I had Germany show on my profile before I had ever been there. It was because I had "found" the now archived GCKTK0 Fast Forward - Such den Bulli which was a "moving cache" originally placed in Germany. It's fixed now! I've returned from a trip to Ireland and "ticked off" all six counties in the North so I now qualify for the souvenir!!

Can anyone explain how I have acquired an Ulster Souvenir on 21 August 2014? I didn't find any caches on that day and, more significantly, I have never been geocaching in Northern Ireland, although I am planning on going in the next week or so!

I had done "wild swimming" and "lighting a fire without matches" before I was twelve - an ex-Scout! - but I was almost an OAP before discovering Geocaching!!

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I have now managed to "navigate" into the files, delete the geocaches and re-load them. I seem to have now lost the "offending" cache.

I have a GPSMap 62st which I use for Geocaching. Whenever I select to show loaded geocaches it always includes one that I found some months ago. I load the geocaches to the GPS from a PQ via GSAK and I can't get rid of this one cache. Any ideas, please?

I have managed ten in one day, as have a number of cachers in the north east (of England). They were: CITO Earthcache Letterbox Multi Trad Unknown Virtual Webcam Wherigo Event Admittedly, this was "a bit contrived" as it was a challenge day specifically to try and maximise the number of cache types found in one day and started with a CITO at Sedgefield and finished with an event at Durham with a trip as far as North and West Yorkshire in between!

I have a Garmin GPSMap 62st and recently I've found that, sometimes, after I have downloaded from GSAK, once I'm into the field the caches haven't loaded. Now it is probably me but, can anyone confirm how many caches can be loaded after the GPS has been cleared? Am I right in thinking that it is 2,000?

Alas, that's not the one I'm thinking. The one I'm thinking is an old bunker that you reach going down a ladder in a shaft, I suspect it's around Sunderland, Gateshead or even Durham. The cache that might be being referred to could be http://coord.info/GC44NMH - Forewarned is Forearmed - it's not far from Durham City. There used to be a cache in the ROC bunker north of Haydon Bridge in Northumberland but it is now archived.

Is it possible that the Swedish owner had visited the cache just before you but, because they're on holiday, they haven't had a chance to do their logging yet? Is there any Found log from them on the cache? It's a bit difficult for you to correct the coin's travel details now that it's already gone on to someone else - but they could do it by writing a Note log on the "Europe's First" cache and giving the coin a visit there, just to show that it was in Ireland. MrsB I did "dip it" in Europe's First so it is recorded there and will have the miles. It was also "discovered" in EF on Friday, further proof that I didn't transcribe the number. I did look at the owner's profile and his most recent finds were in Sweden, I think, certainly not Ireland, but I suppose he could be touring which could also explain why he hasn't replied to my email.

Yes, I thought the same when I looked at the listing a couple of days ago... When you find the cache would you consider doing your good deed for the day by checking which trackables are physically in the cache, and adding "Not seen" notes to the home pages of those that appear to be missing from the cache? I like to see old cache trackable listings "cleaned up" from time to time and maybe either the CO, or one of the Irish reviewers, would be able to marked some items missing if it's obvious they're no longer in the cache. MrsB We had a successful "day-trip" to Dublin with the main objective being to "find" Europe's First. It wasn't a difficult find but I made a point of checking for trackables. As it turned out, there was actually only one trackable in the box - a geocoin that hadn't been logged in! We left two ourselves so, on Friday there were only two TBs in the container. I have logged a note on the cache page and sent a message to the CO. I will also place "Not seen" notes on the trackables themselves. The geocoin was a strange one! I brought it home with me and noted the tracking code before dropping it off but when I came to logging its moves, the tracking record indicated that it was held by its owner in Sweden and had never been placed anywhere. Thinking that I had made a mistake writing down the number I contacted the cacher who had picked it up yesterday in England and he confirmed that I had the right number. I've also contacted the owner in Sweden but not yet received a reply. Can anyone give an explanation? Am I missing something?

Three of us are planning a quick day trip from Newcastle to Dublin, the main objective is "Europe's First". We will have a hire car and about six hours to cache - any suggestions?

I have an Earthcache based on the beach at Tynemouth, Northumberland (GC2MMWH). Despite the fact that thousands of visitors go on to the beach every week/month/year(?), I was required to obtain permission from North Tyneside Council as "land manager" and also Natural England, as the coastline from Berwick upon Tweed to Tynemouth (ie the whole of Northumberland) is designated as a SSSI. The cache does not require anyone to remove or interefere with anything physical, or go into an area where the "general public" doesn't already have access to. To be fair, this Earthcache was set up during a period when the UK didn't have an Earthcache reviewer and someone "sitting in Seattle" probably didn't appreciate the local situation. I should also point out that both North Tyneside Council and Natural England were both very co-operative and helpful, and were probably as puzzled as I was! That part about needing permission from Natural England due to SSSI designation is strange because I was recently told by our reviewer that 'As for SSSI lands, NE only administer the designation. They are not the landowners. It is politic to inform them of the cache placement, but permission must come from the land owner/manager '. We do have our own Earthcache reviewer now though so perhaps things have changed My "traditional" cache at Selby's Cove (GC28Y5R) was initially rejected by the reviewer as it was just inside the boundary of an SSSI and I was required to obtain permission from Natural England. This was despite the fact that the crag is used by rock climbers who, as far as I know, do not obtain, or require, permission. In this case I found NE very helpful and it was they who obtained, on my behalf, the landowners permission.

If the owners have ignored the associated request to physically remove the caches I guess you could. Great, thanks. I will take a trip tomorrow to pick up a few. As a CO who as had some caches effected by the "Olympic lock-down" in the centre of Newcastle, I have complied with the request from Groundspeak to disable AND physically remove my caches. I have also placed notes on the descriptions of the effected caches that, temporarily, they are not there. Although it is "a pain in the a**e", I appreciate that the hightened security situation means that a cacher searching for a removed cache is just as suspicious as someone searching for one that is still there. Whatever our personal views are with regard to the Olympics, as "a responsible community" can we not just accept the "lock-down" and co-operate?

OK, Newcastle city centre caches are disabled but there are plenty of other caches within easy reach of the centre. We have an excellent Metro system that can take you around the rest of the city and North and South Tyneside. If you need further advice or information, contact me with a PM.

The message that I received from Groundspeak relating to some caches that I have in the centre of Newcastle requested that they should be disabled and removed.

Oh dear! That's not very welcoming!! We're looking into the problem to try and find out why you couldn't register!!! Apparent the cause is because your user name can't have a space in it! However, once registered the username can be modified to include spaces!!
