  1. I'm sorry guys and gals but this forum is intended to discuss aspects of geocaching in the UK. This is the second post in a couple of weeks that although very well meaning really has no place in a UK Geocaching forum. Can I request that if you have a cause for which you want to support and that you feel has a special affinity to the UK Geocaching community you contact Eckington or myself before posting. A good example of this approach is the appeal to replace the stolen GPS for the Happisburgh Lifeboat. I hate to appear a C.O.C. (Crusty old Curmudgeon) but I'm locking this thread.
  2. Well the dog's covered in mud but the review queue is empty so I guess it's fair exchange - thanks Ecks!!
  3. .... and I can't review any new caches either Guess I'll have to take the dog for a walk instead
  4. How about I add a set of appropriately sized, correctly spelled documents to the UK Resources page? Just e-mail anything suitable to documents@geocache.co.uk and I'll upload a selection
  5. As Eckington has said, there is nothing in the Geocaching.com guidelines prohibiting plastic bags. If a landowner gives permission for a cache and does not specify that bags are not to be used then we will list the cache on that basis. In the case of the New Forest, and people's concerns about the agreement, all I would say is that it is an absolute condition of us listing a cache there that the cacher must agree to be bound by all the conditions. If you cannot agree to this then I'm afraid you will not be able to place a cache there. The good news of course is that although large, the New Forest is but a small part of the UK as a whole and there are PLENTY of good potential cache sites waiting to be exploited. I'd like to express my thanks to Dave and all the others who have worked long and hard to get us into this position.
  6. Hi Andi and welcome to the sport. I'm sorry you seem to be having problems. When exactly did this problem occur? I know there can be "timeout" errors from time to time, especially on weekend evenings when the US is active. I've just checked the review queue and I can confirm there's nothing of yours there. I'm assuming it is in the UK
  7. Hi there and welcome to Geocaching and the Forums. As a reviewer/geocacher based in Hertfordshire and someone who has negotiated a number of agreements my one word of advice has to be PATIENCE Bear in mind thet Geocaching isn't high on their list of priorities so be prepared to have to be persistent. It might be useful to enclose the Geocaching information document located here as very often they will never have heard of the sport. If you need any further help or support please feel free to get me involved. Good luck.
  8. One thing to make sure is that the "HTML" box remains ticked when you edit your page. There have been reported instances that this gets cleared and this causes all formatting to be lost.
  9. Well my copy hasn't arrived yet. I'll check the post later today For information, this cache has already met with that fate.
  10. Thanks for your suggestions Jon but the transfers have all now taken place so it's a moot point. Thanks also to everyone who volunteered.
  11. No reply to my original e-mail asking for your address so I guess it got lost in the ether. Can you e-mail your details to me and a cheque will be winging its way to you. Peter
  12. Thank you to everyone who responded both here and on the cache pages themselves. We now have volunteers for each of Mark's caches so I have asked that they get transferred. Hopefully this will take place very soon. If it transpires that any changes are requested by Mark's family I will of course arrange these as well.
  13. 'Fraid not. The way I did the one off for Dan was to search for all caches around a centre point. I then went through the list manually, page by page, cutting and pasting the archived ones. Like you, I don't have the ability to produce a report. Shame really but there you go!
  14. See the new pinned topic for the link.
  15. Don't worry, do as Pharisee says and nobody will see it before you are ready and until Eckington or I have reviewed it.
  16. Hi Klaus, I'm currently trying to put together a document with all sorts of useful inks for cachers in the UK & Ireland. I certainly intend adding your information to it. When it's ready I'll have it pinned to the top of the forum. Thanks for the info.
  17. Many thanks for all the offers. At the moment Eckington is getting in contact with Mark's family to see what they would like to happen to his caches. Once we know their feelings we'll take the appropriate actions.
  18. It is with great sadness that I'm writing this note but life has to go on. With the recent tragic passing of Mark, TheCat, the question of what to do with his caches has to be dealt with. I'm sure Mark would like us all to continue to enjoy them so I'm asking for volunteers to adopt them. A full list can be seen here. I've already had a volunteer for Barrel Makers Hill GC79CB and Chosen Hill GC79CD (thanks JJ Noodle Fan Club). If any of you would like to take over one or more of the others near you just let me know and I'll make the arrangements. Many thanks.
  19. See what happens when I go away Never mind folks, I'm back from my hols now so hopefully between Eckington and I normal service will be resumed. My thanks to Ecks for holding the fort while I've been away. (p.s. My thanks too, to everyone who placed caches in Nortumberland for me to find )
  20. Hi Lynn, well done. If you want to send me some details and I'll contact them and try and formalise an agreement (unless you've already done it).
  21. Klaus, thanks for bringing this up while I was on holiday I'm glad to see my esteemed colleague has sorted things out for you. Rather than reviewing caches I'm having a complete change and am logging them now Thanks Mr Ecks for attending to this. L
  22. Although I heard the terrible news a couple of days ago, this is the first chance I've had to put into words the very real sadness I felt at losing someone whom I considered "a friend". I met Mark on several occasions, sometimes sharing a beer or several, sometimes by the side of his car on Fox hunts. He was a true gentleman and I shall miss his dry sense of humour. I was out in the hills geocaching today and as I sat on the very top of one in a howling gale I have to say that I thought of Mark and the wind blew away a tear or two. Thanks for coming into my life mate, I'll miss you.
  23. Yay!! I'm leaving the world of reviewing behind for a week of Golfing in Majorca then a couple of weeks relaxing/walking/geocaching etc. in Northumberland. This means I won't be accessing the Internet/e-mails for about 3 weeks from Friday this week. Can I ask that you send any queries to poor old hard working Eckington I'm sure he'll be only too delighted to help. I should be back in circulation on the 30th of this month. I'm sorry if this causes anybody inconvenience (well not really ) but I'm going anyway.
  24. You might find this list useful/informative/amusing (or a complete waste of time
