  1. It would be GREAT to be able to Save As an existing cache to make new one. Especially if you are working on a series or an event grouping of caches, this would be a great tool. The system could make sure the Coordinates are left empty.

It already does that. Just uncheck the box that says "Yes, this cache is currently active (Reviewers will not see this listing unless box is checked)" then save the page and the reviewer will never see the page in the review queue until you check it. You could work on it for years and it will be there.

  2. I'd like to create a puzzle where cachers need to retrieve a CD that contain all the elements of the puzzle, needed to find the cache. My alternative would be a really obtuse, multi-layered cipher that can be solved on the cache page. In essence, cachers would have a clear choice. Nobody is forcing cachers to take the disk, it is merely an alternative.

    Question for reviewers:

Would this be approved as I described it?

    yes

I suggest instead of getting an answer from A reviewer, you should get one from your reviewer. Since they are guidelines.

  3. ...ongoing rules creep makes it harder and harder to stuff variouse creative ideas inside the box.

Kind of like the box shrinking leaving many valid ideas outside the box. Like the newly discovered rules change on letterboxes leaving one wondering, "what's the point?"

Cr as you stated in the letterbox thread:

So, unless the guidelines have changed, and Keystone says they haven't, then your reviewer has it wrong.

It also sounds like more than a few in this very thread have got it wrong.

There have been no changes to the Letterbox hybrid cache guidelines. What is going on over in that thread is as you said more of a misunderstanding (my word not yours) There are no newly discovered rules changes on letterbox hybrid caches.

  5. I submitted a cache for approval. It had content promoting Cache-A-Maniacs podcast. It was denied and archived. Reason given by reviewer was that gc.com does not allow pod caches and to go to their site and post the cache there. Why? Is my question. B)

I have the email to prove it. If you do not believe.

I just looked at the cache and it doesn't say anything about a pod cache. Did you change the description? Like any cache some get listed some do not. A lot depends on the description on the page.

  6. The best way is to put a request in the block on the bottom of your edit page that says 'NOTE TO REVIEWER"

An email to the reviewer will not necessarly get to the right person.

    <snip>

    :)

That is only true if your reviewer says that is the best way to contact him. Some reviewers use the note to the reviewer some only use an email to the reviewer as the way to contact them. There is no one way that is the right way. It is up to the reviewer. In this case it is the OPs first cache and he doesn't know his reviewer yet so he cant use either method.

  7. Anyone have a bookmark of easy couch potato caches.

I know of about 15. But as far as I know, all the caches on them are for VC's (almost all in Germany) where armchair logging is an accepted practice, and not really the subject of this forum thread. I've yet to see a "these are virtual caches you can probably get away with googling without actually visiting" bookmark list, but I'll let you know if I come across one. <_<

A wise person once said:"Keep in mind the consensus isn't always right. There are times where the strong need to stand together as a group may cloud our judgement as to what is the right decision to make."

  8.

Why didn't Jeremy say so right away, instead of referring me to contact@g, earlier in this thread?)

That seems to be a rather complicated way to go about it, and since I still have no formal response from Groundspeak, I have followed your instruction.

The result is that this is now classified as a 'dispute case' - and Paypal will now be going back to Groundspeak to try to "resolve" this "conflict".

I sent the reference numbers to Jeremy and then to Groundspeak almost two weeks ago, before opening this thread. A simple refund would have been so much easier :-(

Like any company president Jeremy is not always aware of the little details in all his departments. It is why he has employees. From his level he gave you the right answer. It just so happens that I helped someone else solve this and knew a more detailed answer.

  9. Who? I don't know. Better Business Bureau? State Attorney General?

I think you meant to say contact@geocaching.com

That's the ticket. Paypal allows refunds within 30 days (or more, I forget). Reference the transaction in the contact email for a quicker refund.

    Thanks, Jeremy!

Will write to contact@Groundspeak.com with the reference numbers right away!

    Daniel

Jeremy, I sent the detailed message below to contact@geocaching.com and to contact@Groundspeak.com immediately after you confirmed that that was what I should do, 5 days ago. I got no response, no refund, and no membership extension.

Is there anything else I should do?

    Thanks!

    Hello people at Groundspeak,

It appears that I paid for my Groundspeak membership twice, and yet, that my membership was extended only once.

Could you please either reverse one of the transactions, or alternatively, credit me with both extensions, ergo until December 31st, 2008?

Could you also confirm that I have no further automatic subscriptions open?

I made both payments via paypal. Reference numbers are included:

    December 26th

(I paid in response to a message saying that my membership was about to lapse)

    Subscription Payment Sent (ID #5WT819887R733803L)

    In reference to:S-0LN68985WM183564H

    January 1st

(Automatic deduction, which I must have authorized at some time in the past)

    Subscription Payment Sent (ID #0JE263688M151164N)

    In reference to:S-8B090261PD269000B

    Thanks!

    Daniel

    (shunra)

Contact Paypal and request a refund on the second charge. That will work. It is also what contact@ is going to tell you to do.

  10. Go ahead and cancel your current monthly subscription. This will not affect your status or any of the time you have left on your current subscription. Here are instructions for cancelling:

    1. Login to your paypal account at www.paypal.com

    2. Click on the History subtab

    3. Click on Details of the subscription in question

    4. Click on subscription reference number next to "In reference to"

    5. Scroll down and click on CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION

    6. Click Cancel Subscription

    7. You have successfully canceled the subscriber's subscription

Now that you have cancelled your monthly payments, set up a new yearly account here:

    http://www.geocaching.com/subscribe/

Once you have completed the process, PayPal will send you a subscriber ID by email. Once the payment has cleared your account, go back to the link above, log in, and enter that number in the box at the top of the page. Doing this will add one full year to your current account expiration. Thanks for your continued support of the site!

  11. failing that, you can always split it into two logs; you can link them together and that's almost as good.

Why the **** didn't I think of that...?

Well, I guess it would be even better, having no limitation at all.

    But aaanyyyhooo...

Is any chacnge likely to be done?

    Not really

  12. You should have checked your email before posting. I emailed today from the airport as I was flying home. Your event is a bit out of the box and would not ordinarily be something we would list, according to the guidelines, but I am checking to see if it is something we could let go. That is a better answer than a flat out archive, isn't it! :)

I didn't receive the e-mail from you, but I did just read the note on the cache page. Thanks for taking a look at it. :P By the way, wouldn't your reviewer note have generated an e-mail to me automatically, or do reviewer notes only generate an owner e-mail after the cache has been approved? If the former is the case, maybe something's wrong with my e-mail account?

    And it is milkbones! :):);)

Next time I go to Sam's Club, I'm stocking up! :P

The reviewer note generates an email to the cache page owner. (and yes to anyone watching the page, but that isn't the issue here :) )

  13. What erik said - hold-ups over not using the waypoints tool, caches placed a long way from home, caches too near other caches, and of course this last error, sadly all too common: "Sorry, not enough chocolate was submitted with this cache. We are patiently waiting for proper payment before reviewing this cache.

    palmetto,

    Groundspeak volunteer cache reviewer"*

    * chocolate template plagiarized from MissPlaced

Chocolate? Huh?:) Our local reviewer (Quiggle) and our nearby PA reviewer (Keystone) demand a pre-review deposit of a SIZEABLE amount of cache in their offshore bank accounts before they will even look at a cache listing submittal! They would laugh us off the planet if we tried to send chocolate rather than the customary "courtesy donation" of $5,000 per cache submittal! :);):P

You must remember that their boss loves dark chocolate and an offering to her over rides the payment to the local reviewer and its cheaper.
