  1. If anybody is not happy with the way the reviewers are doing the task then all I can say is 'Volunteer to do the job yourself, for free' otherwise leave the volunteers alone.

    I have been in the situation where you are given 'guidelines' and are left to interpret them yourself and you are damned if you do and damned if you don't, many was the time that I sat at home and thought "why do I even bother" and then I remembered all the sincere people who gained enjoyment from my volunteer work and decided " to hell with the moaners, they can all go and whistle"

    I have seen some decisions I have not agreed with but then again not everybody is as perfect as the bashers appear to think they themselves are.

    If they decided to resign and no other volunteers decided to come foreward, and with all the slagging and bashing that has taken place in the last few days who could blame others for not stepping up to the plate, to take over then we will have no reviewers and therefore no new caches to hunt.

    Thanks to Graculus for his help with finding a suitable location for a recent cache and also thanks to Deceangi for his help in un-archiving a cache for me to re-use the name.

  2. Although I have commented on one or two decisions I fully support the reviewers. We need to remember that they are volunteers who we need, yes we need them, to enable us to place caches and get them published.

    If anybody thinks they can do the job better then volunteer.

  3. I have no problems at all with our UK reviewers, in fact I have always found them to be very helpful on the occasions where I needed guidence.

    If the reviewers had a problem with any comments I am sure that they would have said so.

    Also must agree with 'Happy Humphrey' that encouraging posters to desist from healthy debate will kill the Forum but slanging type matches should (or must) be refrained from.

  4. The following is listed as the Aftermath in Wikipedia

    <Quote>

    Since 1994, 21 March has been commemorated as Human Rights Day in South Africa.

    Sharpeville was the site selected by former President Nelson Mandela for the signing into law of the Constitution of South Africa, on December 10, 1996.

    In 1998, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) found that the police actions constituted "gross human rights violations in that excessive force was unnecessarily used to stop a gathering of unarmed people."

    <Quote ends>

    Considering the amount of polotical interest worldwide in the Human Rights issue and the fact that Nelson Mandela is considered to be an international hero (Not my opinion) I can in all honesty see any reason why any informative facts should not be included on the cache site.

    I have visited two sites, both of which are actually in an area relating to a battle of the English Civil War and they both contain information relating to the battle.

    See the following cache pages for references to possible contraversial info.

    Grateful Dead (mentions the slave word)

    Last Battle gefore Tallin

    The Battle of Athens

    Battle of Blackroyd

    Battle of Champions

    If these references are ok then why not the Sharpville information.

    THIS IS NOT, IN ANYWAY, A DIG AT OUR REVIEWERS WHO DO AN AMAZING JOB AS VOLUNTEERS.

  5. Quick update folks

    Just got a PDA so as I can be completly paperless and have found that by creating a basic geocaching website from within the program and the transferring the HTML files over, I can have all the notes on the PDA as well so now only two bits of kit to carry and no paper.

  6. Just done it on my Windows 2003 PPC by holdingthe stylus on the program line until the menu appears 'with copy in it' copied it and then navigated to the Start folder in the Windows folder and simply pasted it there, only problem is that the data file also appears there after you have used it but it is easier to find.

  7. Was a little awkward the day we went there as a group of druid types were sat around the circle. We tried to hang around and one came over and said "hi, if you are here to do some letterboxong or caching don't mind us as one of our friends is out there hunting now." SO we discreetly found the Scorhill cache and left for Buttern Hill.

  8. Must admit that this seems a case of wearing hob nail boots for a bit of ballet dancing. An over reaction if you ask me.

    How does the cacher who entered the SBA know that it has been muggled, it's not as if the 2DNF and 1 SBA cachers are not the most experienced in the world (under 100 between the three of them).

    I visited a cache yesterday and it too had been made 'Temp Unavailable' due to 5 DNF's and an entry that simply said 'Time to remove/Replace?' yet we found it in about 45 seconds (actually found by my son who has only a total of 16 finds too his credit so not that hard to find) no problem and emailed the reviewer responsible for making it temp inavailable who promptly re enabled it, once again a bit of a premature action. I think the reviewer(s) need to be a little less hasty with these.
