  1. This is a very interesting subject at a very unique time. Just last weekend I was traveling a streach of highway that was straight, flat and no overhead obstructions. My cruse control was set at 69 mph, when a County Shereff Deputy stopped me. My first reaction to myself and to him, was where did the speed limit change to 55 mph? He said "it didnt the speed limit is 65 mph" I said then whats the problem, his clame is that I was doing 80 mph. At the time I had been traveling for 2.5 hours, the first leg of my jurny was on 70 mph interstate and then the road I was on that was a 65 mph highway. I had been watching my GPS for some time and it consistantly was reading 67.4 mph, and showed a Max speed for the duration of my trip at 74.6 mph. He of course did not want to hear that and wrote me a ticket any way. My delema is wheather to challange him and his radar unit in court or not. I understand all of the legal implications of going to court, I am just looking for some good documintation on which to base my defence, in referance to GPS techonolegy and it's accuracy.
  2. Can someone point me in the right direction for software for my HP Jornada to download cache pages and information so I can go paperless while Geocaching?

  4. I am new to this sport, and I have learned a lot of things about GPS's and Geocaching in the last few weeks but this thing has been bugging me and I am looking for an explanation. I had purchased a MreiPlat on Ebay from someone out of state, and was patiently waiting at our front door for it to arrive. When it did, (Yippee!) of course I immediately unpacked it and made sure everything worked. When I was toggling through the different screens I noticed that the trip odometer was at 2300+ miles. I then checked the map screen and it showed the backtrack route from the point of origin and it was not a direct route. The unit was off when I unpacked it and the battery indicator showed batteries almost at full power. Seems odd, is there and explanation, or what? How can this be?
  5. I recently purchased a Meridian Platinum and have been fooling around with it to learn all of the features and functions. I also have a Meridian green, which I have had for a while, so I have the basics down. The users manual CD and the online manual are OK for the basic functions, but for some of the more detailed features for the Platinum I can’t find any mention of them. Is there someplace that has more detailed information about these features? I can find no instructions about the barometer settings, there seems to be an extra pointer and icon in the compass screen and I would like more detailed information on tracks and routs. Any suggestions??
  6. Yes, "recalibrating" is what I meant. Yahoo! I got it. I went in and restored the factory default settings, and low and behold it was working again. I also did a recalibration, which succeeded. I'm all set, Thanks!!
  7. I recently received my new, used Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS I purchased on Ebay. I reinitialized the unit when I first turned it on, everything went A-OK. I checked everything and it all seemed to work great. Then (I should have left well enough alone) I tried Realigning the electronic compass, after it completed its realignment the compass does not seem to work electronically any more. I am not sure if I have turned something off I don't know about, and of course Magellan Support isn't available on Saturday or Sunday. Do you have any suggestions? I am not complaining about the unit, because everything was working fine when I first turned it on, just wondering if you have had similar experiences or any suggestions would be appreciated. I know, I know, quit messing with the darn thing!
