  1. Here ya go, Gilligan. Hope this makes you feel better. Wear it with pride.
  2. Thanks, Mike. I will name a tree in my backyard in your honor. Then I will chop it down for no good reason. By the way, it cost $61.01 to fill my truck this morning, and I have no earthly clue what the price per gallon was. I needed gas, and that's that. And as for Exxon "justifying" a $10B profit increase this year, to whom do they need to justify it? It's called capitalism and a market economy. If I have something you need and you need it bad enough, I can charge you whatever I bloody well feel like charging you - when you stop buying, I'll lower my prices again. Until then, I will charge whatever the market will bear. Maybe gas wouldn't be so expensive if the oil companies didn't need to make 97 different blends and formulas to satisfy all the hippies out there.
  3. WTF? Who said anything about killing? I'm talking about taking domestically produced oil, turning it into a fuel that burns clean and gets its energy from the sun (I don't use fuel from animal fat--by coincidence, not design), and using it to fuel my vehicle. The result is a boost to farmers, a cleaner environment, less transportation costs, less reliance on foreign imports, and no money in the pockets of Big Oil corporate honchos who are more interested in making money for themselves than in conservation or environmental preservation. It's too bad that, despite your best efforts, you're actually causing more harm than good, no?
  4. You're killing just as many things, just in different ways. Or did you think all those plants and animals gave up their fat so you could make your fuel WILLINGLY? Then again, maybe the plants feel better about being killed after you've hugged them first. I think I'll chop a buncha trees down this weekend. With a chainsaw. A GAS powered chainsaw
  5. Besides, you probably don't have time to police your own logs because you're too busy policing others', eh?
  6. OK, I ran this through my illiteracy translator and it came up with the following: Some of you may remember my saying that I am putting out a 51 stage multi-cache. It's a story - kind of like a roleplaying game with different ways that you can go - and weapons, potions, traps and friendships you can make. Has this been done before? And if so, by whom?
  7. Trust me, so am I. What I'm *not* for is using my tax dollars to pay for it. I think this is one matter where you sort of have to pick your battles. How much money is really going towards putting internet in these rest stops? Certainly somewhere, there is more money going towards something even stupider. For example, legislators in the state of Pennsylvania can have up to $600 a month for car leases. You know what kind of car you can lease for $600 a month? A nice one. And last time I checked, those guys are all members of the upper class, and I can't say they really need that extra $600 to pay for a car... You need to pick the lesser of two evils. Realize that there are far worse evils in the world than tax dollars going towards putting wifi in rest stops. I agree with you, K-9, but you could say the same thing about all of the ridiculous nickel and dime federal, state and local programs that together take 27.3% of my money away from me every week. No single program in and of itself is enough to lose sleep over, but look what happens when you let it run rampant.
  8. There is no such thing as "free" access. The other side of that wireless access point is attached to a network that is not free. If not, then THAT network is attached to one that is not free. Somewhere along the line, someone is paying for that bandwidth - and if it's your city or municipality that is providing the "free" access, guess who that someone is?
  9. Trust me, so am I. What I'm *not* for is using my tax dollars to pay for it.
  10. Versus paying a crew to man tourist information booths? Scales of cost says the hot spot is cheaper allowing more of your tax dollars to be utilized elsewhere. So when is Iowa closing down the tourist welcome centers now that the hotspots are open? And what about all the travelers withOUT laptops? Back on topic: In the case of unsecured AP's in cities - in the wake of the court case(s) charging people with stealing WiFi from unsecured AP's, how is one supposed to "know" whether an unsecured AP is there to purposely provide access to people or whether they're "stealing" access when they pick up the signal?
  11. There are a bazillion truck drivers out there on the road who use this service regularly. They are often a long time between home runs, and the internet is a necessity for them. Consider them, for they bring you everything you consume. Aren't they already compensated for this in the form of, oh I dunno, a paycheck? To keep this on-topic, most Starbucks are equipped with (not free, but not expensive) WiFi AP's which have come in handy a couple of times already while out caching, as they're much easier to find in suburban-type areas around here than are unsecure AP's.
  12. It's strange to me, how forum posters are ready, willing, and allowed to jump all over somebody who dares to bring up something they don't consider "important." Do you mean like you jumped all over me? Or do you mean like the OP jumped all over the cache in question? Ditto, Mr. Pot. - Mr. Kettle Asking the question why anyone cares is hardly belittling.
  13. It's strange to me, how forum posters are ready, willing, and allowed to jump all over somebody who dares to bring up something they don't consider "important." Nobody forced you to read the thread. Nobody forced you to respond. And in my opinion, your response belittling the OP and his question is clearly a violation of the forum guidelines. How do you think the OP should have dealt with his perfectly valid, if not earth-shaking question? Should he: Bother the already-overworked approver? e-mail the geocaching.com contact address? (Yeah, right. That's gonna work.) Ask in the forums in the hope that somebody will know? Shut up and not ask questions? Seriously, I want to know. How about: Don't worry about it ?
  14. Most definately. If you've got a travel bug, feel free to place it in any cache you find - you certainly do not need to leave it or start it in a cache that you own or place.
  15. This sentence is very clear that the bare minimum for a cache is a container and logbook. Since there is no logbook, it cannot be a cache. Yes, but it also goes on to say: A container with just an object or codeword for verification, and no logbook, generally, does not qualify as a traditional cache. By the way, I agree with Criminal. Who the hell cares, and what does it accomplish to bring this up in public?
  16. I think you have one of those defective math chips in your calculator ...
  17. Bah, you mean you can't read ROT-13 natively yet?
  18. If you're using a PocketPC device instead of a Palm, GPXView does a pretty good job of displaying cache pages from a GPX file generated by a pocket query. Not that I can cache all that much, but I never know when I will have a "good day" and when I do, I always have the 200 closest caches to me in my PocketPC. I also use the Pharos iGPS-CF card and Ostia navigation software in my PocketPC which allows me to carry just one device with the cache page, description, hints, etc and navigation all in one unit.
  19. That's a good question, it kind of depends on their size. Probably about 20-25 minutes per side if you're grilling them over high heat. If you want to barbecue them, though, I would recommend slow roasting them over low coals for about 4 hours with some mesquite smoke and a Kansas-City type tomato based barbecue sauce.
  20. Don't contest rules in most states require that a list of winners be made available upon request?
  21. Or at least the root of most angst-filled forum posts. TH - I read a log for a cache in Tennessee where someone left a $10 bill recently. If you hurry, it might still be there
  22. I kinda wondered about the geo-stalking myself....
  23. No, its about people who are either a: selfish, or b: clueless. you forgot... c) whiners and d) complainers That's a whole different thread where we can whine about people who whine about people who whine. Bah, Brian, I thought that was EVERY thread in the general forum...
