  1. Yes there are: http://www.techblazer.com/geocaching-log-sheets/
  2. What price range, 'inexpensive' is a relative term.
  3. I can't find the m100 but I am configuring a PalmPilot to see if it will work or not with CacheMate. Will let you know. I put the Palm software on a CD already so you'd just install that. Since it's free, I'll make sure it works but any support will have to be through Palm or the forums from people with experience with them, I haven's used it in years so I'm a little rusty.
  4. If anyone can make use of a Palm m100 I'll send it off to them. It's nothing special, but it's free and in great shape.
  5. I was really starting to wonder about you Lots of great tips up above too, thank you! Our oldest daughter already said she wants to find bigger ones to there is 'stuff inside'. I tried to explain that just finding it was the real reward, but that went over about as well as passing gas in church.
  6. Not sure why I'm posting this or who would be interested in reading it... but here goes. Brief history: nüvi 350 sold for a nüvi 360 sold for a nüvi 660, also purchased GPSmap 60CSx. Current status: Purchased Colorado 400t plus City Navigator 2008. nüvi 660 for sale, possibly keeping 60CSx for wife/kids or selling it for a Summit. I have not yet received the Colorado, so I'm hoping I did the right thing. Still with me? Why?!? Geocaching is a blast! *Yes, I know I only have a whopping 6 finds as of this post.* I got all 3 nüvi's before I even knew what geocaching was. In fact I've only known about geocaching for about a month now and already can appreciate paperless caching. If it involves electronic gadgets I pick up on it pretty quick. After thinking it over I decided the following: 1. Geocaching is a blast! 2. I don't need navigation nearly as much as I thought I did. 3. I can have both in one device. 4. I never used text to speech (found it annoying). 5. Paperless caching = sweet. I still can't believe I spent $500 to find tupperware in the woods, but it's a LOT cheaper than my previous hobby - customizing trucks. Besides, it's more than that - I've found a way to spend some quality time with our 5 year old daughter, and that my friends is priceless. I'd be happy to hear your feedback/input/experiences. Cheers!
  7. I used MS Word and created a template with about 8 'cards' on one sheet of paper, used a real small font (like 8 point Tahoma) and copied the most relevant info (hints, description, useful log entries). I never used it, because I AM a gadget geek... Nuvi 660 + GPSmap 60CSx + Moto Q's browser pointed to wap.geocaching.com That's this week... next week will be the Colorado 400t + City Navigator NT.
  8. Thanks for the responses! I did get a hold of the county and the one and only person who has both heard of geocaching and done it as well. His take was that as long as you're not digging up rare plants or hiding a blaze orange 5 gallon bucket in plain view, don't worry about it. Respect the surroundings and don't make it obvious (so people don't think it's trash). Works for me!
  9. New to the hobby and will soon be hiding 5 caches (one for each person in my family). Looking through the forum it seems as though a lot of caches are in places where permission wasn't granted ahead of time but granted later on when 'busted'. I guess I would prefer to get permission first rather than beg forgiveness later and get someone in trouble over it, however I have a gut feeling the default answer will be 'no'. What are your experiences and how do you go about finding the person to contact? If there's a thread on this I apologize. Thanks in advance.
  10. 1. Calibrate the compass. 2. Check the heading setting for speed/seconds. 3. Install the firmware update which fixes a compass issue.
  11. It's usually 'possible' with units that are geared toward automotive navigation, however usually not optimal. For one thing, they like to keep the location on the nearest road. Second, they are not (typically) safe from the elements (water, drops, debris). I think you'd have a much more enjoyable time with even a cheap (relatively speaking) GPS off ebay (can be found for around $50). I've tried it with my Garmin nüvi, and although it would get me close, I ended up buying a Garmin gpsmap 60CSx. Not that I'm brand loyal, just happened that way. If you check your manual there may be a way to manually input waypoints using coordinates, which are displayed for each cache. Best wishes, perhaps someone else with a similar unit can be of more help.
  12. Easy for you to say, you know where it is and what it looks like. Remember, not all GPS units are going to show the same exact location you had when you marked it. Other people could be 5, 10, even 30 feet away (or more) and still think it's THE spot to search and find nothing in the area. Not trying to argue, but you have to try and see it from another point of view. In one post you say it's well hidden, yet now you say it's in plain site - just walk over and get it. I'm confused.
  13. Was going to ask the same thing. To me it's like post count, nothing to get worked up about.
  14. Being new to the hobby (which is what it is to me) I guess I could really care less how other people log their finds. Me, I won't log one unless I see it with my own eyes. Really though, there's much more important things to worry about than other peoples numbers - it's fun to look at and I'm amazed by some peoples counts - but I'm not jealous, I'm just glad to be a part of it at the moment.
  15. Look at the picture, unless Garmin hand writes the titles on their CD's they are just copies, not originals.
  16. Just tried it with my Moto Q for the first time, worked great going to wap.geocaching.com Loads quick and gives me all the info I need and I can even log my visit, perfect.
  17. Thanks Gumbo! I have 3 kids, but only one old enough at the moment (5), the other two are 18 months and 4 months, just a tad young yet but soon enough! I'll keep my eyes open, $49 sounds just right. (I'm the type that can talk myself into higher end models quite easy.) Thanks everyone for you input, sounds like any of them will be good choices one way or another - lots of great info here to think about for sure.
  18. A few years ago I'd look more seriously into it, however they seem to be getting away from this market and haven't had any updates in a relatively long time.
  19. I'm new to this so I'm probably not much help, but my Garmin gpsmap 60csx has this and it allows you to select 'Find/Geocaches' and then mark them as found with a time/date stamp. You can also directly download them from Garmin and geocaching.com and they'll show up in the Geocache list. Pretty slick.
  20. No games on the 'H' I'll try and find a good deal on the 301, thank you for the input!

  22. Good point about the antenna, and I do like the 301 - I just wish it was yellow (easier to spot if dropped). Will see what I can find on ebay, that's where I plan on buying from.
  23. If you have the ability to change 'Vehicles' then I have a gift for you. I hop the folks at Groundspeak don't mind, but I created a 'Signal Vehicle' if you care to use it. Here's a sample of what it looks like in 3D and 2D views: EDIT Download link removed until I get clearance, thanks moonup.
