  1. I think it was you that pushed me over the edge to get the Colorado. I was using 3 devices prior (nüvi 660 to get there, GPSmap 60CSx to get me closer and Motorola Q in case I needed a hint/view logs). Now I hope to just use one device for everything.
  2. Makes the biggest difference along hilly areas and creeks/streams/rivers, gives you an idea of where you are in relationship to those marks, as well as which side of the creek/hill/river you need to get to, and the best way to get there. I got the 400t just because I knew if I didn't then I would be upgrading again, I also got the City Navigator map for it. The plan (for me) is to have 2 profiles, one for 'Street' and one for 'Cache', street will get me to the area while 'Cache' will get me within 15 feet or so. Still waiting for the device to ship, but I'm looking forward to it.
  3. I would just call Garmin, it's under warranty and they actually do take care of their customers.
  4. You didn't read my response... eTrex Legend: High-sensitivity receiver: no eTrex H: High-sensitivity receiver: yes Based on experience, I'd take a high sensitivity receiver over the limited basemap any day of the week.
  5. Any handheld GPS 'can' work, but I'd recommend a step up and get a high sensitivity one like the eTrex H at a minimum. It's not much more and definitely worth it when you find yourself under heavy cover or even indoors.
  6. I just happen to have made quite a few in varying sizes, styles and colors... Feel free to download one or all of them: http://www.l13.us/nuvisite/ Some examples: Much more available at the site!
  7. EDIT Wow, what an old thread... I almost wish I hadn't responded now haha, oh well. ================= I really don't want to get involved in this topic, however I will add that with just under 20 finds to my name I still feel too inexperienced to place a quality cache. I do however have over 10 containers purchased and almost ready to be hidden. With each find I learn something new, (whether a positive or nagative) about hiding a cache. I will hide one when I feel I'm ready to, and only then will I begin the process and expend the energy to release another cache into the world. Second, I also do not agree with the 'one in/one out' comment for items in the cache. If I have equal or better quality items to swap why does it matter? I have 3 kids, two old enough to 'appreciate' a small token for their efforts. I also carry over 100 items to swap out, and chances are it's equal to or better than what they have decided to trade it for. Take something fun and throw too many rules/regulations at it and you'll suck the enjoyment right out of it. By all means do what you feel is right, but there's no need to force it on others. Now, that said... I realized this was an old topic after I replied and saw someone mention the fact. My question is this... Why is it when someone starts a new thread about something already covered someone always jumps on them with 'do a search', however is someone does a search and replies to an existing topic then they get accused of bringing up an old topic. Kind of a catch 22 huh?
  8. Huh So I guess a big white Suburban with geocaching decals on both sides, a backpack, 2 gps' and a geocaching sweatshirt aren't such a good idea.
  9. UPDATE Nuvi is sold. As far as loading coordinates, I always just used the 'Send to GPS' option from Garmin or here.
  10. So let me get this right. Option 1: Deleting and copy 2 files to your GPS and have all the info at hand, on one device. OR Option 2: Copy files to your GPS. Copy files to your PDA. Use GPS to get close. Switch to PDA and look up cache to get more info. Hmmm, let's see... Maintain, carry, and read one device or two? I think I'm liking my decision to get a Colorado more and more!
  11. I had the nuvi 350, 360 and 660 and found that even though you 'can' sometimes use higher memory cards you soon realize why Garmin set the limits, especially if you use the space for photos/music, etc. I had an 8GB card showing up on my 660 but 4Gb is what Garmin says is the limit.
  12. That's how I did it before too but found it there's more to it... Things to help keep the cache in good repair (pencils, paper, replacement/stock up swag, towel to dry it), flashlight, etc, etc, etc. For quick park and grabs you don't need much but if you have to walk a distance it's nice to have it all with you.
  13. Same situation as myself, only I had a Garmin nüvi. Personally I went the route of 2 devices for the following reasons; MOST auto devices are not rugged, waterproof or made for off road use. What I chose was the Garmin GPSmap 60CSx and I love it... however I already have a Colorado 400t on order for paperless caching (personal preference only). You can definitely find less expensive handheld units and be perfectly well suited for geocaching however... such as the Garmin eTrex H. Whatever you get, make sure it has a high sensitivity receiver at a minimum, any other goodies are optional but can sometimes make your experience more pleasant. From one newbie to another, welcome!
  14. Funny this topic came up, I just got my first ever backpack today and it's purpose? Geocaching. I use it to carry pencils, swag, gps, camera and geocoins/travel bugs but will not also carry some wipes, towels and extra log sheets as well. Gonna have to watch this thread for more ideas.
  15. I have the 60CSx and have a Colorado 400t on order, from what I read most all the bugs related to geocaching have been ironed out.
  16. Beats plastic rings and beer keychains Those rings hurt my fingers.
  17. Nobody can accuse me of not doing a search before submitting a new post So is it only on the WAP version that this is noticed? If so, I won't worry about it any longer...
  18. Any time I edit one of my logs this happens as well.
  19. You must have a lot more time on your hands than I do
  20. Chevrolet Suburban baby, yeah! Awesome geocaching vehicle, I love it!
  21. Noticed it yesterday when trying to edit a pocket query.
  22. The hole the chain part goes through is too high up, there's maybe 1/16" tops before it would have a notch vs a hole.
