  1. You don't have to drive miles from downtown Wilkes-Barre to enjoy a great mountain hike with an unusual series of glacial tubs and waterfalls, with a few miles of trails through old-growth hemlock. Seven Tubs Natural Area "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  2. quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary: We'll plant our utopian geocaching community in the middle of the desert and run around naked with gps's trying to find our clothes. george george http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/39570_500.jpg Pedal until your legs cramp up and then pedal some more. George, you a genious...Arizona would be perfect! "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  3. Six-Year enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Served on a vessle that was once the Voice of America ship in Rhodes Greece "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  4. a mythical-whimsical character of ancient Southwestern Indian Cultures. His likeness comes from petroglyphs (drawings) found on cave walls throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Southern Utah. The drawings depicted the life and spiritual beliefs of the Anazasi, Hopi, Zuni and other Southwestern Indian people. He symbolizes joy, happiness, abundance, and fertility. He is believed to be a mischievous trickster and the spirit of music. He is often shown play a flute and dancing. The hump on his back is thought to be a bag containing seeds, plants, flowers and gifts to bring abundance to those whom he graces with his presence. He is the sower of good things. The image was digitally photographed and processed from a new T-shirt. I have a collection of Kokopelli shirts that I enjoy wearing when hiking and geocaching. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  5. IMHO, an individual geocacher should only get one opportunity to log a find on a cache. Since I've never tried to log a cache twice, I don't know how the geocaching.com website would respond. I don't see anything wrong with posting a notice in the cache page log telling all about your daughter's cache hunting experience finding the cache. That also makes for great cache log reading. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."

  8. Hey T, I guess your aware of the blow out in the side of the cache container. It looks like they may have whacked it with a trimmer while doing maintenance along the boardwalk. Contents were dry when I found it. I regret I didn't have the stuff with me to make a temporary repair. The location may be a candidate for a tougher, more survivable container. Keep up the good work! "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  9. If GPSr's were 100% accurate, there would be no need to hide the cache. Just throw it out on the ground in the open and stumble over it when the GPS-O-meter reads zero. No sport here folks! "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  10. It is my understanding that the accuracy of GPSr is improved by the analysis of multiple triangulation calculations from data provided by multiple satellites. Granted, there is probably a point of diminishing return where the increased number of locks don't the improve accuracy. I would agree that, the farther out a satellite is toward the horizon, the less reliable the signal strength is due to distance and atmospheric conditions. Hence, it becomes an inconsistent contributor of data to the analytical algorithm. The ideal scenario would be to have the most satellites possible within a 120° unobstructed view of the GPSr antenna. Since all of elements are variable to some greater degree, a moment of optimum accuracy is fleeting. In my observations of the Yellow’s accuracy indicator, the best accuracy is obtained with the most number of locked satellites with a good strong S reading. Since all elements are variable, I guess we should be happy to achieve the minimal accuracy ratings published in the Garmin manual. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."

  12. Institutional size Mayonanais jars work well. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  13. quote:Originally posted by kevin917z:today i tested out the DGPS on my Yellow eTrex the best i could get was 5ft accuracy, the etrex shows a D on the signal bar and has Ready to navigate DIFF: xx ft didnt think i would get that good of results! In flat ole Kansas, you probably have 360° of flat ole horizon. How many satelites can you lock onto at one time? The more birds, the better the precision. How does differential GPS work with the Yellow etrex? "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  14. I have a yellow Etrex. Their accuracy is greatly diminished by tree cover, overcast skys, obscuring terrain and poor antenna orientation. On cache hunts, its not uncommon to see the arrow swing around and the distance to destination jump from 3 ft to 65 ft in just a few steps as you lose lock on one satellite and retain lock on anothers. In open terrain with no trees, I swear by it. In forested locations, I swear at it. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  15. Yes, I logged a DNF just this past weekend. Either it was extremely well hidden or it walked. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  16. I have a suit like that...but I paint it on. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  17. Excellent topic. It reminded me of an article that Backpacker magazine featured about a year ago. A minister took some time off to hike in the wildnerness mountains but became entrapped when a boulder slid, pinning his leg. AFter many agonizing days, he died of dehydration and exposure only a few days before he was discovered. Timely help could have saved his life. The beacon will become basic outdoors survival gear for backpackers and hikers . "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  18. on your One-hundredth Pot O'gold. Many more rainbows to follow! "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  19. Fwash fwoods are fwocasted fwor this awera thwu tonight. I used to envy a friend and his family who went to Argentina during our summer season to Ski. The concept of our Winter, concurrent to their Summer is something we don't thing much about. But, I guess we don't have to go far to find moderate temperatures in our own country during the cold northern winter months. So, internationally, where is it Spring/Summer right now? "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  20. IMHO, if the find is a collaborative effort, you both should log the find. Unless, your wife did all the work and you were just along for the ride "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  21. I wasn't able to get it to open either this morning. I was having withdrawl. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  22. Groundspeak, geocaching.com and their supporters has probably spent more money and contributed more voluntary talent and effort in building this site and fostering this community than anyone would believe. Jeremy, in his modest way will not tell you this. When you say the site is becoming commercialized, I believe you are confusing commercialization with the good management practices that are needed to protect the hard work, value and the infrastructure of geocaching.com that’s been developed here for all of us. The difficulty and problems in managing a site such as this become greater with the number of users. Jeremy and his associates have provided much of what you see here without costing you a penny. Some months back we were all given the opportunity to invest in and become members of this groundbreaking site. I was happy to contribute the 30 bucks for the true value received here. If this site were really a commercial enterprise, you would have banners and popup ads in your face every 2 seconds. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
  23. May your Ttepee overflow with cache. Now get out there and scoop up some more. "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."

  25. You deserve a BIG SMOOCH (from someone other than me). Well done!! "When you find it, its always in the last place you look."
