  1. http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_350700 This will give you a better fix when you get near GZ than the internal GPS. Reason I linked you to this one is because it uses the same charging point as your phone so you dont need an extra charging lead for it . If you buy the bluetooth GPS why not treat yourself to this as well- http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php...ory=2&Lid=1 This is Tomtom IN your phone- full european mapping for the price of 2 years Nokia navigation and in my experience (use it in a 44 ton truck at weekends all over the UK for the last 2 years) a much superior product. Nokia maps costs you about £50/year for spoken navigation (not something thats always made clear to you ).Nokia let you download the maps free but have to pay for the spoken directions and any data that you download when searching for destinations. With Tomtom you buy the package- voice and maps and use is free . You just pay for map upgrades as and when you want them (you don't have to upgrage every year).Downside is that it does not work with the internal GPS in your phone - you need the external bluetooth GPS to get this to work . There is talk of a programme to "crack" the Tomtom so it can use the internal GPS but I won't use it so can't comment on it. Edit - it doesn't say it works for your phone but I'd guarantee that it will Tomtom is slow about testing .It works perfectly well in my N95 -8gb and the N95 -1 that I had before and they are not listed as compatible. Beauty of this is when you get out of the car you take your phone with you so you don't leave your satnav behind for the theives.
  2. You will only be about 3-4 hours away from Ireland when you are in Scotland . Fancy adding another country to your list? If you are interested drop me a line and I'll try to sort it out for you.
  3. Well today was the day- I was 14 months in on a 18 month contract and so I went to the 3 shop to upgrade . I pay about £35 - 40 / month and had been told that for a couple of quid extra a month I could have the new Nokia N96. When I got there today I get told that its £38/ month + £5/ month for unlimited internet +£6.99 / month for insurance. Which means that I'd be paying a hefty £50/ month (all but a penny).Told them exactly where they could put their N96 and would remember the experience when it came to renew the contract. So it looks like a change of network in 4 months time and either a Nokia N96 which should be cheaper (due to the recession really kicking in / end of year promotions to help sales figures or newer phones on the market) or a Blackberry of some description.
  4. Yup have to agree on all of above, but as it will be a free be (you dont want my phone bills), it cheaper to get a spare caching phone than battery Any reports on N96? Gerrit I'm in the same boat -upgrade due on Tuesday next week . At the moment I have a N95 8gb that has tom tom sat nav and Geocache Navigator on it . Also have an external bluetooth GPS for better sensitivity at Ground Zero. With 110+ finds I can't fault the software , the only dissadvantage is not being able to download and store the cache pages before going out into the field . If you have no reception it all starts to fall apart. Have looked at the N96 , the new Blackberry and the i-phone. All have their good and bad points but because I already have Tomtom sat nav for the Nokia and a 8 gb card to expand the memory ,have the Nokia software in the Pc I'm 99% sure I'll take the N96. The biggest reason for sticking with Nokia is that I have so many car and house chargers that I would have to dump and then buy new ones for any other brand . So to put you on the spot Beefy If you were starting out and did not have all the accessories already which Phone would you o for? I've always had Nokia phones and so far never had any trouble with them . I know how to take all the operator software off the phone and get it running to the best of its ability- it invalidates the warranty - I can live with that not everyone can or should .A Nokia is a highly customisable device with many many add onsavailable for them and a great deal of them are free. I don't like the i-phone because of the way Apple releases small or slight updates every year but you get tied to a 18 month contract which when you upgrade ties you to another 18 months . The i-pod should serve as a warning to the i- phone users - newer, slightly better, slightly improved version released every year or so when it could be given a big boost in features etc all at once. Also IMHO it's not the "jesus"phone that it's made out to be . What it does it does well but it dosen't do as much as well as the N96 .You can't add any extras unless you go through the Apple store and just about everything costs money there. I looked at the new Vodaphone Blackberry 2 days ago and I admit I liked it . Only thing that puts me off it is the fact that it's network specific and the vodaphone software that will be in it will probably mean it wont be able to perform to 100% of it's capabilities.Plus the fact my phones don't lead a sheltered life -they get stuck in my pocket along with keys, coins ,pens and any number of hard, phone nasty items, thats why I'm not keen on touch screens. Back soon with more.

  6. Can we have an update one this please. Is it going ahead ?
  7. That is a beautiful coin.Keep one for if you ever come to Northern Ireland
  8. Depends what you want out of it all. If you want to sell all your coins and make money keep on doing what your doing now . It's up to us to sit up all night and try to get coins when the auction starts . If you mint(for example) 250 and 10 people buy 25 each thats a result for you and those who didn't get have to beg trade or fleabay for them if we want one . Heres an idea take it kick it around and see what you think - You have 40 coins to sell . Announce them here and ask for orders . Thread to remain open for 7 days so everyone gets a chance to order what they want. As the replies come in make a spreadsheet up 1- 100 across the top and names down the side. first is "Jim" who wants 10 coins then "Joe"wants 5 "John " wants 10 and finally"Jack" wants 5 another 15 buyers want 2 coins each. You could sell 60 coins if you had them but you only have 40 how do you split them up fairly? Everybody gets their first coin thats 19 gone 40-19=21 left Everyone gets their second coin thats another 19 gone 21-19=3 left Jim,Joe and John get a third coin and thats it no more coins . Not everyone got as many as they wanted but everyone got something and the coins are in the hands of many rather than a few . If there is a demand then do a remint with those who did not get all their coins first time round offerd first chance before everyone else. It's never going to please everyone - you can't do that but it gives more people a chance of getting a coin. What do you think? - it's only an idea
  9. Thats a cool coin Roddy.I'll be in touch about buying some.
  10. To be a little more specific, if the card says it's a 'micro SD' card then it will work. If it says it's a 'micro SDHC' (for 'high capacity') then it will not. As mtn-man said, that's all cards larger than 2GB. £4.99 is a pretty average price for such a card these days. In fact you can get one for less than that (inc. delivery) from a popular online retailer named after a very long river. Also check your local independent computer shop, etc. Avoid high street chains - they tend to sell them for extortionately high prices. I've got a 4GB micro SDHC in mine and it works OK just to muddy the waters a little more . I'm looking to buy a Garmin Oregon soon . I have a 8 Gb SDHC that was in my phone . Will it work in the Oregon ? Have looked but can't find an answer .
  11. I know what you are trying to acheive but I honestly don't think this is the way forward. As someone who enjoys going out and actively hunting coins for the icon (shallow - maybe but at least I'm honest about it)hiding the coins so that I can't see whats where I would probably give up this hobby. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of excellent caches out there but I prefer to find and move coins around. I take a picture of them and have them stored in my computer. If when I'm posting a note on the coins page I see that there is no picture of the coin I'll stick up a picture so everyone can see what they are looking for . I don't think it would reduce the number of coins going missing as nobody would know where the coins were therefore there would be no deterrent for the dishonest among us .
  12. Thanks for that Miss Jen . Maybe everyone can see this as a chance for a fresh start and put an end to the senseless bickering that has been going on in here of late. I like big sticks
  13. Oh well the newbie does it again . See's the "Hearts Desire "thread and goes away looks at the coin lists and pictures and then comes back and posts up his 10 favourite coins . I hope my post didn't come across as a begging post because it wasn't . It was a genuine list of the 10 coins that I really like that are out there at the moment (subject to change as new coins are released ). If any of the owners or holders of the coins would care to get in touch with prices I'll see if my budget will strech to buying them .I buy because I have nothing to trade at the moment my "collection " can be seen on the" Most Cherished" thread. I don't pester people and will return email/ messages quickly and politely. And I'd be up for one of those coins too
  14. This coin is way to expensive for me . My 2 cent's - your trying to rip people off for a quick buck .Sell them at $8- 10 and they will sell at $25 you've got a lot of traders.
  15. GOOD SMALL COLLECTION,SEEMS YOU LIKE SERIES COINS!!! Glad you like it. I like coins that mean something to me . The N.Ireland coins as I live here . Edinburgh coins as I used to work there and really liked the place The garmin coins because I have visited some of the sites and they are great places. The Avroair coin because I always have had an intrest in military planes especially WW2 bombers .There is also a story behind the coin which I thought made the coin a little more special. The token was a free gift sent with the purchace of 3 coins that I had been looking for to give to my father as a gift and as such will never be given away as it reminds me of that persons thoughtfullness and help while I was sorting the deal out. I was also greatly suprised when Tennesse Jed adopted 3 of his coins to me - as a newbie here I thought I would never have a look in when he started to split up his collection and could not beleive that I would get 1 never mind 3. Thanks again TJ. They are to start travelling shortly and I'll be very excited to see where they go / end up . I only have a limited budget for coins so my collection won't explode overnight - it will grow slowly but will be full of coins that are special to me
  16. Compared to some here I only have a small collection but here they are . (6 are missing - 3 travelling and 3 given as a gift) 1 Avroair coin 2 Edinburgh coins 4 Northern Ireland coins 3 Garmin coins 1 untrackable token received as part of a purchase.
  17. Alan Mandarin's detailed post highlighted several reasons why she stepped down. In the other thread, you expressed a belief that one of her paragraphs was the "key" one. This paragraph was indeed to do with Groundspeak. In doing so, you chose to overlook the paragraph in which she alluded to the behaviour of certain forum contributors, particularly their treatment of reviewers. I can't and wouldn't try to second-guess the relative importance of the reasons. But it concerns me that you're trumpeting the one involving Groundspeak - while ignoring the one which could, perhaps, reflect a little bit on you, together with everybody else here. Regards Richard There are none so blind as the ones that can't see.
  18. Thanks for all you tried to do for us all. Pity some spoiled it for all of us. Enjoy yourself.
  19. Wot he said . Thanks for all you tried to do.
  20. Can I make another sugestion . Can the UK forum be closed until after Christmas so that everyone can go away , take a beep breath and do a little tupperware hunting. In my humble opinion the last few weeks in here has been nothing but back biting ,arguementitive, moderator and reviewer baiting, thinly and poorly covered up as "discussion". Discussion in a forum is about helping each other to come to a civilised outcome where most if not all of the participants reach an agreement. Some of the recent threads have decended into what looks and feels like spoilt children stamping their feet and screaming "I'm right " "No I'm right" The people who are involved in this do the sport of geocaching in the UK no good and in my opinion show all of us in a bad light . The last line from me is harsh and won't win me any friends but I really dont care I think this needs to be said - Grow up and stop acting like children. If you don't like the rules and regulations then clear off ,set up your own listing site and see how you get on.
  21. I'd be really interested in one of these. One question will you be able to buy extra stainless charms and how much would they be (small and the larger size). I'd like one as in the picture with a tracking number and my caching name engraved but I'd also like 2 un engraved charms so i could personalise it even more.
  22. According to the guidelines, you did as you were supposed to. Hey, imagine the very next cacher finding it without a baggie (or with as the owner's decision may be)....vicious circle! I'd guess the owner of the item you have didn't realize they had to list an inventory and specific do's and don'ts....but is learning now, since you've emailed them! When does it stop being fun? If the line "This coin was released with / without a flip/bag/ mission statement and I do /don't want extra's attached to it." was on the mission statment / page the next cacher would not have to ask. How hard would it be and how long would it take ? A max of 5 minutes per TB not in my opinion a big change and no longer than it would take to reply to an email. Your comment on lists and inventories blows what I said out of proportion . 5 minutes per TB/ coin would sort this whole problem out. When does it stop being fun ? When people can't see and recognise a sensible idea for what it is . Really...5 minutes, huh? Imagine having 100 TBs/coins...at 5 minutes per. Now, imagine that number at 1000 travelers...yep, sounds like the fun is slowly going out of releasing travelers to me! What makes you think the owner wanted to "have to reply to an email" in the first place? What makes you think the owner wanted to have to list that "this travler is void of tags, bags and mission statements...or go back and add it to every single traveler? As I said, when does it stop being fun? A sensible idea? Really? Sensible to you, or the traveler owner?? Eartha say's to email the owner whenever we plan to drop a traveler into an event (not sure if that's simply MEGAs or not, but MEGAs have a much better track record than smaller events IMHO...and I can show examples if you need them), to email if we see tags, bags etc, so for your idea to work the owner would indeed need to make a list of do's and don'ts as well as an inventory, or face getting emails like yours....sounds like great fun for both the finder and the owners! oh, and no need to get all wrinkled about this, you asked and I answered...I wasn't being mean. Maybe if I'd have answered with what you wanted to hear?? I used my emoticons, relax a bit! Rockin Roddy just so we are clear - I cache for fun . I'm happy and content with my life . I don't send emails to "face get". I am relaxed here - I thought I saw a solution to a problem and I offered it up . Again your blowing it up out of all proportion - a look at your trackable list shows 2 TB's . It would take you 10 minutes to add the info if you wished to( actually 5 because one seems to be missing) - you may not want to- fine by me .Others may think its a good idea and do it . I don't want it set in stone and made into a cast iron rule - it was a sugestion. I want to hear honest sensible answers to my questions - I don't need or want to be shot down in flames - but I'm also big enough and smart enough not to let it get to me .This is my last post on the subject I dont need the hassle. Feel free to shoot me down in flames - I'll look in and read it but I won't reply to it again. When does it stop being fun ?- About now for me . How about you?
  23. It has happened to me as well and I had travelled over 200 miles to get that coin. What you have to remember is the owner may have had coins go missing before and if the coin is special to them in some way this may be the way they decide to share it with the world . Yes it's disapointing for those of us that like shiney coins to hold and look at but you can post a note on the cache page you drop it in to say it's a copy thereby warning the next person that comes looking.Everyone has their own reasons for what they do .
