  1. I am a proud Nuvi and have owned it for almost a year now.

The Nuvi and Tom Tom (to the best of my limited knowledge) and the only car navs that will take coordinates.

But the advantage to using a Nuvi is that you can download POI Loader (for free) from Garmin's site and load up the Nuvi with the geocaches. That way you don't have to input the coords each time. There is supposed to be a way to do it with the Tom Tom, but the two Tom Tom owners that I know have not been able to figure it out.

The Nuvi's sensitivity is great. Like the above poster said, it can get a reception inside a house. (I can't get a signal everywhere in my house, but if I'm near a door or window I can.) I've NEVER lost a signal while driving. Not in the woods, not under trees.

And if I've not patted Nuvi on the back enough already: I'm amazed at how most cemetery roads show up in Nuvi's map.

I played with a friend's Magellan Maestro for a bit and found it a cheap (err more expensive) imitation of a Nuvi. The Nuvi was better and gave phone numbers. (The Maestro did not.)

I use the Tom Tom 920, I think its better than the nuvi for several reasons. I have used the nuvi 350 before. Tom Tom is better. You can use GSAK to import POIs into the Tom Tom. Its very quick to lock on, about 10 sec. Ablility to d/l map updates for free is nice too.

  2. I have been researching GPS's for the last week and have decied on the 400t or the 60CSx.. I have read just about every post here regarding the two and all the reviews i could find on both...

    Im still confused.....

I realy like the 400t becuse of the visual's of the screen but everything i have found is, that the 400t does not have as many features as the 60CSx and is about $150. more, (why is that) I know it has the paperless geochace, but is it worth the money to not have as many features as the 60CSx... The main thing is, i would like the back tracking and read different things here regarding the 400t. Some say you can and some say you cant. So whats the deal? Can you or cant you? Its a pretty cut and dry question..

For thoes that have both pelase give me yalls honest opinings on wich one you over all like the best and why. ( the one you would pick if you needed just on GPS)

    Thank You

Get the 300/400t. Since you've never had the 60csx, you won't know about any of the features which you don't have on the 300/400t. :P In addition, the 300/400t will probably get better with time as new firmware versions come out. You can't beat it for paperless caching, which is important for this sport. Although I must say Garmin sometimes reminds me of Microsoft with their beta release of products.

  3. The Garmin 305 does the same thing. For some reason Garmin only gave it the ability to modify points already in the unit. As far as I know you cannot enter lat/log into the unit and nav to that point. One has to save a point first then modify the coords. Another giant step sideways.

  4. Hi I'm Randy. Just started geocaching a few weeks ago. I have found 4 caches so far, two others I didn't find. I don't know what a geocoin is but one of the caches I found had a travel bug in it. I think goecoins are like travel bugs right? Some people really get imaginative when they hide these things. One hint said if you can't find this one you shouldn't be geocaching. I haven't been able to find it yet. Anyway I would like to go to a group geocaching event sometime if there is one in the Atlanta, Ga. area to talk with other cachers and see what kind of gear they use etc. Sort of like a meet and greet? Do they have something like that? Good forum. Always check your coords. :anibad:
