  1. In this case, since there was no assault, by any statutory definition, there is no terrorist threat. So what you're saying is it's not a threat unless it's acted upon? If you're in law enforcement, I'd assume you would know the definition of a threat which is "A statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not". Telling someone to watch themselves is indeed an implied threat. Especially with the fact that the man followed them for a mile before making the threat, which shows clearly that the man has a habit of acting irrationally as we've seen earlier when he took a tantrum over a guard rail being used to hide the cache. So we'll go back to that definition where it says "A STATEMENT" not "AN ACTION", therefor meaning it is still considered a threat seeing as the threat has been made and is now apparent. That's how threats work. Would any legal action be taken? No. Would the police talk to the guy? Yes, police that actually do their job would go speak to him. You are not understanding that the court of law (which LEO's have to enforce) cannot legally recognize someone following you for a mile and telling you "you better watch out" as any kind of threat. Even thugh we all know this guy was an aggressive so and so, and yes, threatening - the court of law has to prove that beyond a reasonable doubt. LEO's know this and could not just slap the cuffs on him and haul him off. Sadly though, yes, im a state where stand your ground is so easily defendable, i'd be more cautious where you cache and who you deal with. Which is why I said no legal action would be taken, but the police would still speak with him.. which also happens to be the question mr law enforcement asked. "Why would the police speak to him?" depends on the individual leo i guess. you may get one on the other end of the line that asks just that..wait longer and they will ask why you waited so long...

  3. i think its just jersey ;-) i am originally from the tri state area ad would be much more careful where i cache when I am up that way. again, soe places up there shouldn't have hides at all. You should really focus on areas where there arent caches close to property lines.
  4. all three "caches" still better than a micro ;-)
  5. Do explain how he was stalking or harassing, swineflew...other than the guy just being an angry person, he didn't do anything wrong. Best thing you can do is alert the CO to get the cache away from the guys property so the next folks who try to go for it don't get hurt (the guy may pull a gun next time(0. Again, another reason NOT to do GRC's r near someone property
  6. To be clear, I am talking about designated wilderness areas. I am trying to get a feel for how geocachers in this area feel about the existence or nonexistence of restrictions in these areas. the rattlesnake for example, are there any cache's in there? It all really depends - land managers have the final say in nature reserves and wilderness areas. Many land managers welcome caching as long as it is not in a ecologically sensitive area. In lmost all cases if something is remote enough, you arent going to get enough traffic around that area where it will matter. High impact is a matter of how much traffic a cache generates - there is more of an impact on areas that have power trails, like the ET highway, or much of this geoart, than any wilderness area cache I have seen.
  7. I had a relative long ago who was willing to judge an entire group based on his perceptions of a small percentage of that group. He wore pointy hats and bed sheets when hanging out with his peers. I know a DGS member who got a traffic ticket in Seattle recently. I'm willing to bet that there are several DGS members who have received traffic tickets over the years. That doesn't mean that DGS sucks at driving. Traffic ticket? Ha, most people got their share of them. My last one was over 10 years ago. Even my dad got one. Just one and he been driving over 60 years! Lets talk about behavior(s) of DGS members on this forum in the last two years. Most clubs got rules of how their members should act under their brand name. All it takes a few bad apples to make the rest look bad. I am seeing too many of their members putting anyone down that dont agree with them. Its more than I can count with my fingers. If its only one or two, no problems, but its way more than that and seeing it way too often. "questionable behavior" coming from a guy who has "put down" his fair share of people in these forums.
  8. I was wondering about that also. It appears that you have to do all 31 to get the final icon which is different than the one posted on the original collage. I checked a few profiles of people I know who got a cache on the 31st, but not everyday of the month, and they did not get the 31st. Could be wrong about this if servers are slow-- anyone know for certain? The final icon is the same, just click on the souvenir to see it. actually read somewhere we were supposed to get 33 total iocns for august...2 on int. geocaching day and then 1 final one if we did all 31 days
  9. can someone tell me why one upmanship of uber numbers seems to be the trend? soon, we will have nowhere to get but vertically stacking caches
  10. it would be nice if Groundspeak did award a special icon for everyone who did all 31 days
  11. highly doubtful...we couldnt get two distinct oned for today lol!
  12. ironically...i didnt get a souvenir for the event...i dont log anything i hide or host. i think my low numbers and number of years i have been caching speaks for itself where that aspect of the game is concerned. but this aspect, the souvenirs, i do like. others who are silent like them too. and because it isnt popular in the forums doesnt mean it is wrong...just sayin' p.s. i dont subscribe to the weekly newsletter. my box is spammed with enough geocaching marketing things
  13. Not really. Since you cared enough to stalk my profile and look at my event, you can see its goal was to be a paddle event. In order for me to have it published, it was informed it had to meet "meet and greet" standards. C- for your efforts to look at it though. Also, i am hoping you dont have young children/grandchildren if this post is what you call a "tizzy" Finally, I am going to give everyone a mission - go down to your local lumber yard. pick up several planks of wood, varying sizes. I also suggest you go to a hardware store for some nails - lumber yard nails are not trustworthy. if you need to as well, while at the hardware store, buy some power saws, a hammer, tape measure. gather all of your tools and materials together and build yourself a nice sturdy bridge. The virtual event logging doesnt need to be explained to anyone on here. my event, i made an exception for this one person. If anyone else doesnt like it - use the bridge to get over it. sounds like you are more likely building something els with your boards and nails. 99% of the time I don't event think about he fact that there are souvenirs available, with this month as the exception since I am putting together a photo journal of the fun that I am having with the 31 in 31 challenge. I don't know if you noticed, but none of the souvenirs breathtaking works of digital art. Personally I wouldget more enjoyment if the souvenirs were some how able to be use as backgrounds on my laptop, but since I don't have control over that, I choose to not let it bother me. excellent. a response that is on topic and polite. a rare gem in the forums (or an ammo can container). i was bothered all of the 5 seconds i looked on the souvenirs page. my like surprised. yes, its one of the aspects of the game i like, it happens to be a rather unpopular one with the forum regulars, so of course i am going to go chumming in here with it! but to be serious, it was a little surprising because you would think Groundspeak would have stayed on theme for the calendar. kind of looks like a hole now. oh, and usesnagit to grab the souvenir icon and photoshop or gimp to arrange them...wahlah, instant desktop background.
  14. Thats the problem. *its on his profile page* its a good thing people cant stalk my underware drawer like they do my profile...they'd REALLY have something to talk about! but i must say i am impressed with peoples uncanny ability to essay my entire life and who i am just by reading a profile on a gaming page...how much do you guys charge per hour for your psychotherpay session? i bet you'd have me fixed up in no time...tony robbins has nothing on geocachers!
  15. no if y'all will excuse me, i need to go finish my tizzy (iys getting cold)

I was wondering where you were going with the whole bridge paragraph. You drew me in perfectly, and dropped it on me in the very last sentence. Unlike the C- you gave out, I give it a solid A. Not an A+ mind you, but an A. lol...well i was always told if i was going to be a hiney, do it with style
  17. so where does one do that keystone? please dont say "email Groundspeak" its been tried and failed.
  18. thank you. this is what the thread SHOULD be about and not at all about liking challenge caches or not or even how the op set up challenge caches. the reviewer was 100% wrong in how he/she worded it. it was rude, degrading and completely unprofessional. this seems to be a growing trend with some reviewers. and too many folks are afriad to say it. is this how customer service is supposed to behave? volunteers or not, they DO represent Groundspeak whther they or Groundspeak want to accept it or not. sadly because the "i dont like challeneges" contingent exists, they are going to side with the reviewer. not acceptable at all.

  20. yea yea yea, its just a souvenier, i get it, but i fully expected TWO disticnt souveniers, event posted in my event description there would be two souveniers today...thanks Groundspeak for "combining" the calendar one and int. geocaching day....i am sure it would have put out your graphic artist to do two lol...lazy
  21. i generally dont...why? i dont know...just my own way of playing...but if others want to do it, i take no issue with it
  22. You know good and darn well brian, nobody really wants just any old virtual back. Time and again this issue has been hammered out in these threads and time and again it gets shot down - very serious and very good suggestions to bring virts back in some other form. Do the reviewer and Groundspeak ever even consider it? Nope. And nobody can ever come up with a good reason why any suggestion is not considered. I have one theory - Groundspeak cannot see a profitable venture in it. Or at least whoever handles that part of the business is short sighted in it.
  23. yup...for almost 2 years. I felt shunned away so I just gave up. glad I was convinced to come back by an orginal caching friend and then met some new great friends who didn't listen and buy into tales of what a god awful person I am because I push buttons online LOL
  24. not me...I learned a long time ago, sarcasm and satire are lost on geocachers
