  1. Anyone else experiencing an EXTREMELY slow and Laggy website lately?  I've got all the cookies enabled because apparently I have to to be able to see the map. (go figure)
This has been on Chrome. I tried Firefox and it seems somewhat better but not always.

Issues opening hyperlinks from the website also is an issue.

Pocket Queries preview map doesn't work

The "Search" map still sucks and continues to suck. It's super laggy and the zoom feature is horrendous. The radius doesn't work either. It goes by the zoom radius not the miles you enter.

I'm sorry but this is getting a bit ridiculous with one (or two) things after another. I see "notes" about upgrades/updates to give a consistent experience but the only thing I seem to experience anymore lately is slow and inconsistent experience.

  2. Not sure why this happened as I had used this option on a previous issues some months ago but somewhere along the line my preferences were changed, who knows how though.

This did alleviate the issue Didn't have to change to Leaflet just added some permissions and the browse map works again.

    Thanks for the reminder janrei_!

  3. Just this morning the Browse Map decided to give me a blank screen. All the headers and other peripheral items load but the map area is just a big white blank space.

If I look up a specific cache and click on "larger Map" the map loads.

I did clear computer cache and browsing history which did not help.

Overall the website has been slow lately and other smaller issues have come up. Wondering if there's maintenance going on or??

Smaller issues were clicking on a tb and getting a 404 not found error

  4. While having some other issues of late with the Maps I noticed when I use the search filter and use a Coordinates based search within a XX miles radius, it seems to search only for caches within whatever zoom level the Map is at. In other words if I set a 5 miles search radius and the map is zoomed way out, it will give me caches out to about 20 miles. As we all know the search map is a bit laggy and hard to set to a very specific zoom level this creates a problem.

Anyone else noticed this?   I am working on a Windows 10 machine using Chrome browser. All are up to date.

  5. I found the workaround to be going to the Browse map and clicking on Pocket Queries in the upper left corner will give you the list of your PQ's and then click on the PQ you want and it seems to work. Although when I was recently trying to get the browse map to work properly I enabled all cookies and it seems to work how it's supposed to.. all these bugs and gremlins lately are getting old...

We did some more cookie wrangling.

Please hard refresh the pages you were having issues with.

If a hard refresh is signing out and back in, it doesn't seem to have worked. I'm still having all the same issues unless I consent to all cookies.

I also wish there would be fewer problems on the websites. However, topics that are relevant to all websites, such as cookies here, are particularly difficult. If you change something in one place, it can spread to all kinds of websites, and you simply can't test everything across all websites.

No budget is required for the implementation of the information provided, as well as for the use of our scripts.

This is much appreciated.. When I mentioned my 'pay grade' I was referring more to my knowledge and ability to implement the scripts w/o screwing things up. lol.. Again, thanks for the insight and information and the links!

It's one way to fix the bug.

In the past there were always problems on various geocaching pages when not all cookies were allowed. This has already resulted in scripts no longer being executed correctly on the affected pages. As currently in the browse map for script GME. The problem seems difficult to fix as it keeps coming back. If you don't want to have any more problems with this topic now and in the future, you could perhaps choose a different way when allowing cookies. We have put together some information about cookies here in the past. Maybe this helps.

Thanks very much, I appreciate the info on this. Sure wish Groundspeak could get it together and keep the bugs out of the system. It gets pretty frustrating at times when things aren't working right, which is more often than it should be with them. I'll read the info on the links you sent and see if it's within my pay grade! :)

This is again a problem with the geocaching website cookies. If you allow only the necessary cookies, these phenomena will occur. If you allow all cookies then it will work.

I have made no changes so I don't see how the cookies come into play. I have talked to others, all having the same issue. It worked fine.. then, it didn't

  10. So. It seems they fixed the "ADD TO LIST" feature on the webpage so it worked properly (for a minute).. NOW, it's broken in a different way. When I try to Add to List from the Webpage it opens up my Lists Page rather than giving me the small pop-up that let's me choose a list to add to AND at the top of the webpage there are none of the usual header links that allow you to surf to another topic or whatever.

EDIT" I just noticed also, that the header links are not there when in the Browse Maps mode but show up in the Search mode.

EDIT 2: Now, I just noticed I can't even add to a list from the Cache Page itself?!

    Anyone else having this issue?

  11. I just noticed an issue that seems others are having.

I'm doing a "search from" either coordinates or a specific cache with a specified distance, but it seems to only search to whatever zoom level I have on the screen rather than the specified distance.

I'm using whatever the latest edition of the Chrome Browser on Windows 10

I don't want to seem negative but lately is seems to be one issue after another.. But at least we don't have benchmarks messing things up anymore. 😉😉🙄

  12. I have been having this same issue on my Android phone. Sometimes it's okay but mainly not. I have done a reinstall of the app and it works the first outing but not after that.

When I look at Sat Map in google maps it's fine but not in the Geocaching app.

I have cleared cache on the app and on maps and still have an issue. I rebooted the phone and it worked for a minute and then reverted to severe granularity when zoomed.

I have NOT cleared the Storage data as I'm not sure what that does and if I will lose any saved maps?

I guess it depends on what they're asking about the caches. If it's objective stuff like "Is the container damaged?" or "Is the log wet or full?" then it probably wouldn't matter who owned the cache, but if it's a more subjective assessment of cache quality ("Would you give this an FP if you were finding it today?") then, well, I know the community response to my caches is often quite different to what I expected, good and bad.

It is totally objective. They want 3 pictures. One of the container, the log and the surrounding area so it's not real issue with taking data on your own hides. They're looking at data for the algorithm to see if it lines up with posted logs and such

  14. I received an email from lee@geocaching.com asking to participate in a "geocache condition Report" and would receive a free geocaching t-shirt. It asks to check 25 geocaches near me (whether I've found before) or not and to complete the report. When I looked further it said my email account could not access the report and asked if I wanted to use a different account.

It looks pretty legit but wanted so see if this is sponsored by HQ or if any others have received this message?
