  1. Doesn't the Sport Trac have a tracklog or routes that you can save to show the distance travelled whether you walk in circles or a straight line. Most pedometers are highly inaccurate because they try to measure your stride and if you hike up and down hills or do not maintain a steady pace, it will not be accurate. Your GPS is much better at this. Take it out on a track sometime and see for yourself. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  2. I'm getting a good laugh after seeing the water level has risen four feet from Sunday when I drove out the Gorge. The levels that day were the lowest of the year and I was tempted to turn around and go back to get the cache sheet, but it was just too dadgum hot and I was already drueling for a shady trail near a waterfall and a nice cold beer. Glad you made it Geonap. Now if you are into some more adventure you might try The Headwall. No need to worry about any water on this one at this time of year, just some giant plants called Devils Club. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  3. The Legend of Skull Hollow is one of our theme style caches. If you're going to go on a cache hunt, it might as well be an adventure! The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  4. I'm not a big fan of virtuals, but if it is close to the area in the picture below, then it seems to have good merit for scenic quality. Plus, most of the area up near Broken Top is in a designated Wilderness, so a virtual may be the most appropriate for the location. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  5. quote:Originally posted by fractal:I can bring my favorite summertime beach drink: Speaking of beaches and drinks, a couple of years ago I was sitting in a lounge down in Florence, and this really hot and sultry woman comes in and orders a Jagermeister and Red Bull. I've been hooked on that drink ever since. Not sure if it because of the lasting image of her or that it's really a pretty cool drink for summertime sipping. Nehalem Bay State Park has a long stretch of beach and is fairly close as well as Oceanside. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  6. Thanks for the info Grin'n'Bearit. Here is the link to the OPB video viewer of the episode. It is not a full length version of the one I checked out from the library. 7. Interesting pictures. The thermal image looking down on the helicopter is pretty cool. Checking the coordinates of the image, I was able to place it directly over Portland Creek, which is obviously the dark area running from top to bottom in the image. I haven't been paying much attention to the Clark Fire, but checking the Active Fire Map page, I noticed it was along Fall Creek. Wow!! what a shame. That is a beautiful area of Old Growth forest along the creek with some nice campgrounds and hiking trails. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  8. I am hoping to get down there to scout it out the first part of August. I was also hoping to meet one of the moondog3 team there, but Justdog is now working seven days a week for awhile. I definitely would not recommend going there alone. I might have to look into teaming up with someone else. In the meantime, here is a topo overlay of an aerial image with a line drawn to indicate the Hellhole. My guess, from viewing the video, is that the deepest part is on the western end and the probable entry is to the east and from above. I am curious about the intermittent stream that seems to bisect the crack. Maybe it doesn't extend that far to the west, but the aerial shows a line to the west and in the video, the short shot from the airplane seemed to show the deeper part to the west. It also may be that croaker was not far enough to the west. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  9. The yellow micro notepads look like they are similar to the other full size Rite-in the Rain pads which are always considerably more expensive. However, there is no indication on the description for the notepads what they are made of. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  10. Why does somebody always have to complain about the price? Custom items like that made in limited quantities isn't going to be cheap. And somebody has to get paid to process the order for shipping. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  11. Yep, still there. Valley of the Giants(Bifoots Garden) The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  12. There was one there. Offhand, I don't know if it still there. Although a relatively small tract of Old Growth, the trees are immense and worth the trip through a maze of roads to get there. I did some photography for the World Forestry Center and their Old Growth Forest Exhibit a number of years ago. Spent six months wandering the Old Growth forests of Oregon and Washington. So it's something close to my heart. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  13. Great job Denali! Is there a logo button I can add to my Urban Cache pages? The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup

  16. Why should pocket queries be the determining factor in paying for a premium membership? If you use the website to find caches is great. If you use the website to advertise your own caches, then don't you think you should show a little support and help with the maintenance of the website. Just my opinion. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  17. quote:Originally posted by skydiver: My definition of 'Cache Machine' is someone who hikes all day to hide/hunt a single cache. I usually refer to someone interested in sheer quantity as a Cache (rhymes with glut). You mean Cache Slut? It is quite obvious a Cache Machine event is all about the numbers, but more importantly it seems to be quite the social event, and staged in moderation, is probably a great extension of what geocaching has to offer. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  18. Although I haven't been involved in any cache machines, I would be honored if one of my caches was found at an event, and I am really proud of the Northwest Caching scene. Not only is it the birthplace of geocaching, it is on the cutting edge of how caching can be fun! The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup

  20. quote:When all the stars burn out and we are left cold and dark and when all the galaxies collapse in on themselves into a huge black hole and then when it all explodes again in a new big bang, we could all log that as the last event cache of this unverse. I guess that will be the only way to get rid of all the lame caches. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  21. In the post apocalyptic world 10,000 years from now, impoverished townsfolk stumble upon a rusted metal box buried beneath the surface. In the box they find several strange objects. Taking it back to the scientist in town, he discovers what must be some ancient toys with a symbol of two golden arches engraved into them, but most importantly he discovers a packet of corn seeds that are genetically pure and also a piece of technology that one day will help civilization back out of the dark ages. Maybe someday, far into the future, your cache will help a civilzation back to its feet. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  22. Congratulations fractal. I hope you continue to raise the bar on what geocaching can be. I just passed my two year anniversary last month also. First cache find was Grizzly Mtn. by the Wit Camp crew. True to the moondog3 style, our first hide, The Potholes, was out in the middle of nowhere. I would be embarrassed to admit what the original container was, but lets just say we have grown quite a bit since then. I am looking forward to geocaching leading me to new and interesting places for many more years. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  23. Yeah, I thought for sure there would be some eager beaver down there this last weekend. I was going to try to make some copies of the OPB Field Guide video before I return it to the library. Is anyone interested in a copy or able to make additional copies? The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  24. Cool cache teaser! I don't know if I am the one, but my girlfriend was screaming something about that last night. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
  25. I wouldn't make any recommendatons as to what to use to get down in to the hole myself, as I haven't been there yet. But from viewing the video it looks like the sun was over the left side of the walls of the hole as they descended into it, which would indicate they entered on the east end. Studying the aerial imagery also shows that the narrowest/deepest part may be on the west end as indicated by a narrowing line in the trees. The adventures of Navdog, Justdog, and Otterpup
