  1. Hate is not strong enough, I am now starting to dispise SMALL's as well! Sorry but you should hide as big as you can 3" x 3" Containers hiden in woods are just pointless! I want space to keep a proper pen, to place a travel bug and use the Cache as a board whilst writing my log... So any one thinking about settinga cache PLEASE do it LARGE! I am now at the stage I do not move TB's there are so many micor's smalls I struggle to find a cache to leave them in. Sorry I know this was not meant to be a flaming but...
  2. Yes, are you offering a reverse option where you take Disreputable Dogs out caching and return them as well trained Geo Dogs? Actually, mine is a fully trained cocker Spaniel with a keen nose for plastic. Pull his ears to programme in the coordinates and he's snapping and snarling at your hands off and hunting. I had a pair of Working Cockers, pointed in the right direction they did a pretty good job. The real party peice was in heavy Gorse, Nettles or other such Prickles Point out the Box they could get it out. I just could never train them to put it back! Sadly a divorce cost me my working dogs, you can got to court to get access to your daughter . Your dogs, its just far to complicated . I guess I will just have to wait till I can afford a house and start again In the mean time if any one has some Geo-Dogs in the New forest ish area that need some more caches ....
  3. 1) I used to, but it gave major problems on my machine after an update. And after I got rid of it I was quite relieved. I don't like to run anything more than necessary, and as it was the only thing I had to run Grease Monkey for, I was able to get rid of GM too. 2) It was a waste of time when I was running it, for exactly the reasons stated here - it doesn't discriminate between different types of cache, e.g. a micro in ivy or a cache and dash beside a busy trunk road were rated as well as an ammo can after a great hike over the moors. It didn't reflect how good a cache was for me because not everyone likes the same type of cache as me. Martlakes solution specifically tries to address that. I think it's not at all a bad idea, but as evidenced by the discussion here it is clearly too difficult for some people to understand, and even if they understood it I think it's sufficiently complicated for most people not to bother with. And any rating system has to be implemented by Groundspeak to make it really viable, and I can't see them doing it. Rgds, Andy Andy, Point taken but I for one will not be bothered filling in a star rating system for several points each cache I do... Seems like what you are looking for is already implimented by Groundspeak, as mentioned in my last message Cache Logs. Its not perfect but cachers have got by with it for a long time... Best Gerrit
  4. Personally there is a perfectly good Cache rating option using grease monkey script on Fire Fox. There is agood set of instructions in the forums of how to set it up... Once installed its so easy to rate caches you have done 1 to 5, no frills quick easy thats all it needs for me after that I read the logs...... Why do more people not use it? Well thats my 2 pence worth... Gerrit
  5. Well for me caching has cetainly slowed down due to Micro's. I have never been one for worrying about what I find. But am getting increasing hacked off with Mico's only yesterday I drove by a cache and did not even stop... It was a a cache by a play park and had oodles of space for a regular.. But no it was a micro and I thought plainly why bother... Not worth looking for... If it was not for my 600th cache (not logged yet 2 weeks ago) being a really good one I would not off continued... The ones I place seem to get good reviews and I will maintain, I even have a plan for 1 or 2 more quality placements. I will pick some caches from time to time even micros if appropriate, but no more micros on in woods, Ivy or where ever if there is place for a perfectly good cache... I have only been at this a year and have enjoyed doing the caches I have done... I would just like to to see more quality and thought in the placement of caches... Well grumble outed, a much slowed cacher... GerritS
  6. I do power Trails and try and save a complete log forhte last one, the others if and when. I have also gone wrong one Cache Trail of 35mm's in woods and complained on each cache it couldof been bigger except the one good hide for a 35mm Canister. As for TFTC must admit I am guilty on caches that are not to my taste. My worst insult is "A cache for the numbers not for the location". Gerrit
  7. I should be caching just now but my 2 pocket quires have not arrived.... I cannot see why not got one yesterday now none have arrived today... Any help apprechiated.. Thanks Gerrit
  8. OK I did it my N95 was becoming Critical to many caches, pubs and sailing... It was time for a replacement the N97 seemed to have to many faults so it was time for another phone. I Have gone for the SE W995 and I cannot find any caching software out ther for it... Any advice? So far I cannot even get Geocaching live running... I have good GPS for caching but phone is always usefull for new caches etc... Any advise most apprechiated. Thanks Gerrit
  9. I think I will be joining you on this quest, my N95 has died I am due upgrade and the W995 seems the best bet... So any help apprechiated for me to! It mightbe worth rasing this on UK forums as they are foten more responsive overthere! Gerrit
  10. Havel Have to disagree! I like the compass... Although never thought about it afftecting the GPS, will have to effect some trials, whislt caching of course Also I do believe thick cloud cover does make a diffrence I notice it every time on my N95. Although the frequency may have been choosen to minumise the disruption, it still can cause problems.
  11. I dont know if they fit, I have a Discovery. I would not be without a Bebe Axiss Car seat... http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores..._-CPC-_-Froogle Have recomended it to a freind and they have not looked back... Eays access turn the seat to see them at the door so much better.... As for Buggys those who where at the Cracking Christmass Cracker event will vouch for the off road performance of the 4 wheel articulating Chasie Urban Rider... http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...sa%3DN%26um%3D1 Its like a landrover for your child! Hope this helps, might not fit the car, but certainly does the job!
  12. I love the reference of a polite email... A friend of mine picked up a travel bug, with no mision attached. When they logged it they found it was on a mission in the UK they could not help with . Before they could replace it they got quite a pushy email, that did not read as nice as it could . They placed it as best they practicaly could but where glad to be rid of it. A while later they checked on its status to find the next cachers had moved it on to Germany ! I guess the not so polite Email really got on some ones goat !
  13. Or possibly have marine charts loaded instead of terrestrial maps? Can confirm this is the case You have to buy the charts for the area to get the tide function to work... This could almost be added to the cost of Garmin Maps thread going on else where in this forum. I would consider buying some/ all of the extras if they were not so expensive and untranseferable and I could be certain they would all be on one memory stick... As it is you can some times feel like some one who has bought a playstation but cannot have the games... Does not stop the caching though
  14. I have got to agree with this one. The only other addition is if some one thinks a cache is that worth while they could adopt it... I know there is one multi, I found as much by luck than by good managment that has a question to answer that no longer works... It was going down the bad route several DNF's etc Having found the cache and enjoyed it I left a note in my cache log to help future finders... Instead of 7 logs in one year it has had 10 nice logs so for this year on a cache thats 4 years old... I would adopt it, just because it was such a good walk, a cache I would be proud to set... Do I want more caches there, no I know its a walk I can go back and do enjoy and dont need a cache to enjoy... GerritS
  15. I've sent you an email via Groundspeak... There's a GPS for sale in Warwickshire. Your OH may be able to collect and save you the cost of postage, if you're interested. Thanks for your email..I'm still winning a couple (eek!) on the old ebay. I'm a bit skint, so looking to spend less than 100 quid, thanks for the help. anyway! saribird Saribird pick your maximum and keep bidding on every one you see! I picked a ceiling of £35.00 for an Etrex Yellow. Eventually I got one at that price ... It took a bit of patience .... But worth it in the end till I stupidly left it on a bench for 2 mins and it went ... Have a Serial/USB cable for etrex yellow if any one is intrested?
  16. A little bit of expermintation with the print function of Easy GPS can make you almost paper less caching fititng the relevaent details of allot of caches on one page. If you have a phone tunning symbian you might find Smart GPX from SmartGPX.de will give you paperless caching even if you do not have a GPS in your phone. Hope this helps.
  17. Back to the cycling issue: I cycle and walk quite frequently in the new forest and other places, I have found that I prefare push bikes (and prefare to cycle) off the allowed cycle paths. People: 1) are normaly more courteous, 2) dont quitely race up on you expecting you to move at the last minute, 3) are normaly real bikers having a laugh covered in mud, not on a daily work out, In the forest I have had less complaints for cycling of the allowed cycle tracks (which are only small circles you have to cycle to on the road), than I have had on the footpaths. I am sure my comments will not go down well with all here, personnaly I have no problems with push bikes off cycle tracks. Provided they follow points 1 & 2 above.

  19. My first double post, I am so proud. Does this make me a proper Cacher?
  20. Hi, Looking for a campsite (or maybe a cheap hotel/ b&b but camping prefared) for a serious bash on some of the mega series. Cutting some petrol costs , also adding to the fun of caching Any help and recomendations urgently apprechiated ... Particularly as I am thinking of Sunday the 24th. Yes thats tommorow Thanks GerritS
  21. I've had a few DNB's on those. I have to agree on that one, I am not always as diligent in loggin DNF's particularly when: 1) Its a multi where I often get my sums wrong . My record is 7 attempts to find one 3 stage multi . 2) Its a micro , Why do people put Micro's in Ivy ? (Maybe its more of a point of, Why do put micro's ?) 3) Its a case of a DNT meaning Did Not really Try. Its good to see DNF's particularly if in an area you don't know, I think they say more about a cache than Finds. Logs that say they enjoyed it anyway which means I'll give it a go . The logs that just say spent 1 hour looking and DNF I would not bother attempting ...
  22. As I believe it. (Not necessarily correct!) Load a Puzzle or Multi by GPX you get the 'false' co-ords from the website. IF you've solved the puzzle/multi, using GSAK and 'corrected co-ords', means a GSAK GPX file will show the corrected co-ords on your Colorado/Oregon. I think your unit should hold 2,000 waypoints... There is a limit to the number of waypoints and the number of GPX files... It is possible to reach one limit before the other. ie If one limit is 3 files, 3 PQ's reach the limit. BUT load one GPX file of 1,000 waypoints, you still have plenty of space. Thanks seems to be what happens, I ut in 3 x PQ's I get all 1500 Geocache, but the daughter waypoints fill the waypoint memory way before. Sounds like GSAK is a use full tool, although as I normally avoid puzzel caches I am not so fussed. Even for multi's I normally print out a much reduced cheat sheet. Still any other help/ tips most apprechiated. Gerrit
  23. Hi I have Oregon 400 its great but again no proper manual means I have no ready access instructions... There must be lots of tricks to making caching easier? not that its not simple already. I have learned (from posts here) frequent calibration of compass helps, proberbly due to mobile phone moving from pocket to pocket . I have found accidently if I double? tap the compass when in this mode I can calibrate it without going back to set up ... I have been creating waypoints to do multis etc. Is there a better way? What advantage is GSAK? I have just been droping the GPX downloads straight into relevant folders... On my Oregon. If I want to drop a route in I use Easy GPX, but to be honist I find this little use in caching, have I missed something? Having had an Oregon afew weeks now the most annoying thing? It "only" holds around 1500 Geocaches and daughter waypoints before waypoint memory becomes full ... I guess I travel to much and never know where I am going next ... Or am I doing something wrong? Most wanted extra, a file manager mode so I can move those GPX files to have all the ones I want on standby! Best thing its water proof! All advice apprechiated. GerritS
