  1. You could always type a note on the cache page "outing" the "cheaters" and embarassing them publicly! They probably wouldn't care too much but it might cause them to change their log. As Pyoung1 said, I would exhaust all forms of communication first.
  2. Whilst I totally agree with others in that it seems pointless to claim a TB at, say a caching event/meet if you haven't actually moved it to another cache. That having been said... what happens in the case of those TBs which are people's cars, for example. Naturally, you wouldn't move the car from one cache to another, or are you invited to push it a couple of feet along the road!!!!!!
  3. I recently submitted a new cache for approval but wanted to create the cache page to show to the landowners, as I had a proposed location for the cache. I also wanted them to see my proposed wording etc. Before I clicked the "submit for approval" I added a note to the cache page indicating that I was still awaiting permission and would advise when the permission had been agreed. Eckington emailed me to say that he had received my proposed cache and noted my comment and would "hold" until permission had been agreed. When permission had been agreed, I emailed Eckington and he approved the cache to "go live" the following day.
  4. Thank you for the link! I did have a quick look but couldn't see it.
  5. Before approaching the National Trust, I started a thread in the forums asking if anyone had already made contact and if a precedent had been set. Naturally, I didn't want to ask them something they may have already been asked before! (The thread is so old it has now been deleted). I recently had a cache approved on NT land at Ashdown Park . I first 'phoned the NT office in Swindon requesting the name of the Head Warden at Ashdown Park. They couldn't tell me (!) and suggested I just write to "The Head Warden", which I did. I also included with my letter a document explaining the history of geocaching (including CITO and the GAGB guidelines) and copies of the cache sheets for other caches which had NT approval (in case they wanted to contact the other NT wardens for their experiences). I received a very nice letter back from the NT Assistant Property Manager for Oxfordshire, inviting me to meet with the Head Warden at the Ashdown Estate Office to discuss a suitable location in which to hide a cache. I met the Head Warden last week, (a very nice man who was extremely helpful and intrigued to learn more about geocaching) and we agreed a suitable location. The cache went "live" last Friday and Subarite was FTF on Saturday morning!!! (Edited for typo)
  6. Uh oh! You're starting to catch me up! I'd better get my skates on and get out there caching! Congratulations and here's to many more.
  7. It snowed here in Aldbourne, near Swindon, for a good couple of hours this afternoon. Like you, big flakes, but not cold enough to settle. 2nd snowfall of the year! I just looked at a map and found out that you're about 8 miles due south of me, zootalaws!
  8. It's snowing here in Shrivenham, near Swindon! Big flakes too but I don't think it's going to settle, so no snowball fights for us just yet.
  9. All of these have been memorable for me, for various reasons. GC5EF2 GC5EF4 and GC5EF3 simply because I love climbing to the top of a big hill and just sitting at the summit admiring the view, feeling on top of the world! GC39DA because we had the added excitement of rushing against an incoming tide and the location is simply amazing! GC7684 again, because of the location and actually getting to it! GCJHW0 because of the sheer satisfaction at being able to find it, without needing any clues! (see my cache log)
  10. .....said the camel Ya beat me to it! Me too !!!
  11. I believe there's a rugby match on TV this afternoon, so hubby and I will just HAVE to snuggle up on the sofa together to watch that!!! See... I'm not addicted to caching at all!
  12. Yep can do.... now am I quoting that I have been (1) out caching with Leoness or (2) She is sane ! Confusing ! Well... if you can't vouch that I'm sane, that means you've chosen to go out caching with someone who is insane?!!!
  13. Now there's a challenge if ever I saw one!!! But then again... he's not a numbers man!!! Is it a cunning one and can I call you Baldrick?!
  14. I, too, am female and do most of my caching alone (but usually with the dog). I see from your profile that you're not a million miles away from me in Chippenham (I'm near Swindon) and have done "Endeavour to Communicate" which I've given up on for the time being (long story!). Maybe you could provide me with a few hints!!! I assume you've done all the caches around Chippenham (which I have pencilled in to do next month) but may not have done the caches on the Ridgeway i.e. Uffington White Horse, Waylands Smithy, White Horse - Black Smith to name a few. The Ridgeway is a very popular area for dog walkers, hikers and the like. Generally, I feel safe caching alone if... it's daylight it's a popular/touristy area I have the dog with me I have my mobile 'phone with me I am aware of others around me Hubby knows what time I'm expected back or will text me to check that I'm OK If I don't like the look or feel of an area, I will leave it until hubby can come with me. I appreciate that your question was about caching alone and understand that this may be your preference. If you want to meet up sometime and do some caching together, then email me via the website. I have been out caching with Harrogate Hunter, Sleepless42 and Seasider who can all vouch that I am sane (well... I hope they would!!!)
  15. ...so get in there quick, before The Wombles take over another county!!! Seriously, congratulations and thanks for all your hard work negotiating with "the powers that be" for the benefit of all of us.
  16. Like most things in life, striking a happy balance is a good way to go about things. Establish your priorities and the things you enjoy doing and then make time to do some of each. That way, you schedule the time to do all the things which NEED to be done and you also get time to enjoy the things you WANT to do. Nothing gets left unfinished, nothing gets put to the "back burner" at the expense of something else and nothing gets done to excess, risking the possibility of "burn out". Caching is one of those past-times which you can pick up and put down for periods of time. I am sure most cachers' statistics go down in the winter months when the days are shorter and the weather is colder and wetter.
  17. Don't tell me there's a UK geocaching record that Seasider hasn't got!!!
  18. We think they might be geodesic points. A geodesic line is the shortest distance between two points on a curved surface. Try typing "geodesic" into your browser...
  19. Try Here and click on the "Geocaching" tab along the top. Oh.. and welcome to the sport (or should that be addiction!!!)
  20. I guess I can be equally stroppy... ... if I hear a motorbike or car hurtling along the track and my dog is loose, I'll stand in the middle of the track to (hopefully!!! ) slow them down until I can at least grab my dog's collar to prevent her from being run over!
  21. As per my comment above... hopefully, I am about to hide one in the Oxon/Berks/Wilts area very soon!
