  1. I had the same problem... and cleared the cache while I was reading this thread. It worked for me too. I'd been messing with some settings earlier, but I thought it had worked okay after I finished tampering with the settings. But of course, when a problem occurs I start trying to figure out what might have caused it, and if I made any changes... So I started trying to set things back, but that didn't help, so I started clearing cache and history and such... and now it works again. Must be a bug in the Groundspeak system though. Even hitting reload didn't work, and I though that would have overwritten the cache files. Strange. Halloween gremlins? "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  2. Do any of the FRS radios have adjustable squelch? Mine tend to cut in and out, which gets annoying. Or is it just because I have a pair of cheap Audiovox FRS radios? How do the privacy codes work? Do you just select one, or is it like SSB, or what? Do you just tune into the privacy code by flipping a switch or turning a dial after telling the other person which one to switch to? "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  3. With a lot of people going to FRS & GMRS is CB becoming more viable now? Doesn't it have far greater range? Couldn't CB radios be made small, almost approaching the compactness of FRS units?
  4. Here's Another Message Thread about coating paper with clearcoat (lacquer or enamel) to keep ink from running. I made myself some bumper stickers, but still have to put them on my car (rubber cement... one coat on the car one on the paer, stick it on, remove excess around edges by rubbing it off with your fingertip). 5. Here's a "Markwell" for you. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  6. But then, Geocaching isn't exactly "Normal" either... "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  7. Some caches are a bit hazardous by their very nature. As long as the hazards are plainly posted in the description, I have no problem with it. BTW, Rich, did you mean to have your signature code look like this: This is no time for fun and games...FIND THE CACHE!! Which would do this: This is no time for fun and games... FIND THE CACHE!
  8. I wasn't aware it had turned into a "Gay Rights" discussion. It seemed to me that (unusally) we agreed that such behavior, gay or otherwise, did not belong in a public place. The reason they go there is because they figure no one will care, or bother them. If enough people make it inconvenient, they'll find someplace else, maybe even a more suitable place. Perhaps if a few people started to carry digital cameras and post pictures on the internet they would look for more privacy.
  9. So, how do I boost the gain (other than building a linear amp)? "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  10. Maybe we should send the Jehovahs' witnesses in to prosthelyze at these rest stops. It would keep both groups busy and irritated. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  11. Just don't bend over to pick up the cache. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  12. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot: quote:Originally posted by Mark 42: No one has found it yet... one person asked for an extra clue, which I gave her since it's been up for more than 12 hours, and I really identified with her story of frustration (Been there, and felt empathy). You give extra hints on a cache that's been up for only twelve hours, and no one even has posted to the page? You're easy. Way too easy. She said her kids were very disappointed... I guess I'm getting soft (minded) in my old age. But the hint was really just something an experienced cacher would have thought of anyway. And, if no one has the initiative to go out there ahead of her (on her second attempt, assuming it's not right behinde her house), then maybe she deserves to be FTF. Plus... if she has kids... it may be nearly impossible to cache twice in the same day! But I mainly just wanted to show people an exceptionally beautiful (not so little) chunk of wilderness in the midst of a populated area.
  13. As I was editting it last night I became concerned of the same thing. I kept trying to make the text look neat (nothing fancy), and thought "What would happen if they approve it between edits?" But it all worked out okay. BTW Criminal, it's still got no finds logged, if you're looking for something to do today (enjoy the rain?)...
  14. Actually, after I re-read the post, I see I interpreted it in a way that it couldn't be if I'd read carefully. I do agree with what you said... my wife and I talked about printing the cache sheets encrypted and using the decryption task as a way to teach our 7 year old the value of persistance and the reward of a difficult task accomplished. We just hit "Decrypt" and print it now. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  15. If you don't like it, find another hobby! "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  16. It was pretty straightforward. No one has found it yet... one person asked for an extra clue, which I gave her since it's been up for more than 12 hours, and I really identified with her story of frustration (Been there, and felt empathy). But, I think she wasn't quite thinking like a geocacher (or maybe I was being too dveious?) "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  17. Last night I submitted my second Cache ever, hoping it would be online today or tomorrow... I submitted it at 19:39:22 last night, and it was approved at 19:53:20 the same night (elapsed time - 13:58) My thanks go out to Team Misguided for such prompt service!
  18. I found a Pair of Motorola FRS radios for $36. BTW, how long does it take you two year old to decrypt the clues? (You do know that you can click on "Decrypt" before you print them out...) BTW, you can edit your posts by clicking on the icon with the pencil at the lower right of your message post as long as you are logged into the same account you used to enter the post. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  19. I did one multi as an online puzzle cache... the description of the final cache (abandoned cemetary) let me do a bit of historical research and figure out which cemetary. Then, using pictures and log entries from other cachers, I was able to figure out where in the cemetary to look. But, I really don't care for the ones that can't be done with just a printout of the cache and a GPS. I think that they should be self contained, and remembering the birthdate of the 16th president is just a bit too much for me to do in the field. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  20. It's fun, and adds a bit of intrigue... My wife and I got to One Cache near our house within an hour or two of when it came online. I was excited to be holding my first FTF, but dreading the possibility that I'd been out maneuvered... I was about an hour too late. But it was fun to engage in the pursuit. Next time I'll consider going home with a sudden illness... (JK) I have one FTF sort of, it was on a cache event, and the caches had not gone online. It was an extremely challenging multi (multi-micro!). The "rulles" were that if no one claimed FTF after it had been online for 48 hours, the person who was first there on the day of the event could claim FTF. But it doesn't really seem like a true FTF to me since it wasn't online at the time I found it. Here's one that has been up since Sept 2nd and not been found yet! "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
  21. Micros are low maintenance, which means if you have a place you'd like people to see, and you don't have the resources (time, et. al.) to maintain a cache in the particular spot, it still gives a hunt for those who wish to do the micro. If you see a micro where you think a traditional cache belongs, consider asking the owner to archive or modify his so that one of you (or both collaborattively) can put a traditional there. Generally tough... I agree with Doc's post above. I prefer a traditional, but will do a micro, puzzle, or multi if I am in the right mood &/or have the additional time required.
  22. That's it exactly. You sign the paper logbook at the cache, and the online one so everyone else gets to see it. Occasionally unethical people might try to log a find online w/o actually finding the cache, so the paper log verifies the find. BTW, there is a "Getting Started" forum that you may want to spend some time perusing. A lot of good tops come from there and the FAQ. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it"
