  1. Yes, I think that sounds the best as if I'm having to scramble a little through some trees, I would favour my right side, so the bag on the left makes sense. I'm thinking that the Jumbo may be a little too big & heavy for me, so I think I'm edging towards the Fatboy - maybe with some additional pockets.... & without the gun! http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPr...mp;idproduct=31
  2. We have a couple of rucksacks, but I feel the need for something with multiple pockets otherwise you can get stuff lost in the bottom of the bag.
  3. No question is ever silly! The bags go around the opposite shoulder & sit either on your back or at your side. Check out http://www.maxpedition.com/ where you can see some photos.
  4. I'm not sure sure they'd like me packing heat in the Isle of Man! Weather is temperate, a bit like Ireland, but less rain & more wind! Many caches are out in the country, either in small plantations (forests) or a need a hike along some hills or the coast.
  5. I like the look of the Versipack, although I'm not sure if the Jumbo may be a little too big for me. Otherwise, they have right & left sided versions. I'm right-handed, so wouldn't that make the left sided version better for me? What do the experts suggest?
  6. Some excellent tips, thanks. I like the look of the Maxpedition range (http://www.maxpedition.com/), but also I like the Campco Safari vest. I suppose that a bag would be more flexible though as it could be used in any season & any location.
  7. Excellent info thanks! Is also interesting to hear what you take when caching. I'm edging towards a vest which looks good apart from the winter, when I think I'd need a bag.
  8. Hi I'm looking at ways to carry all my geocaching stuff. I've been using a bum bag up to now, but it's uncomfortable & gets in the way. What do you use to carry all your stuff?
  9. I'm not sure that I'd like to type out a log on my Colorado!
  10. I just wanted to mention that there's no shading on my Colorado 300. Do you need Topo loaded to see the shading, or should it be there on the base map?
  11. Thanks for the tips. There's metal all over the place in here - 4 computers & monitors, 2 printers etc. I'm also sitting right in front of my monitor. BTW Anyone else noticed that the email reply notification doesn't work too well?
  12. Are there issues which affect the compass? I am sitting in my office right now trying to run down the rechargeable batteries. My office is in a small barn with a thin slate roof. The battery level is showing 1 bar, I am "seeing" 7 satellites with GPS level of 4 out of 5 bars. The date & time is correct, as is my location. I have just calibrated the compass for a 2nd time & yet it is showing North to be approximately in the East position. Does the UPS get less effective it is has been still for a few hours?
  13. That's where I was looking, but there's nothing under Waypoint Manager or Mark Waypoint.
  14. Ahh! Thank you!! Did you find that in a manual?
  15. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the advice. GPS & caching is very new to me & I have no other experience to draw-on, e.g. Orienteering. I have RTFM, but the manual is nothing more than a Quick start. It's another lovely day here on the Island, so I may try that one again. One thing I was finding odd standing at the "landing place" was that my compass didn't seem to be accurate. It was pretty well back to front, with the compass showing South where I would have guessed North to be. I was in sight of the coast (South). I recalibrated my compass last night - which may help.
  16. Thanks, there's no manual to speak of. As far as I can tell & doing a bit of Googling, I can't project a waypoint using the Colorado. Please someone tell me I'm wrong?
  17. Colorado 300 As a noob, along with a total lack of anything that could be described as a manual, I can't figure out how to follow an angle (bearing?) or how to travel a set distance. Despite finding the start point of GCKPKV & then setting it as a waypoint, I couldn't figure out how to find a bearing (walking around slowly gave me everything except 121°) & I couldn't figure out how to set the distance travelled. Any hints & tips please?
  18. Hmm, I'm trying GSAK. A bit of a steep learning curve...
  19. Oooh! Nice stats pages! I'll do some homework & decode which looks the best!
  20. That really is great info, thanks so much for taking the time to write this. We live on the Isle of Man, a beautiful small island in the middle of the Irish sea. We see ourselves as Manx, rather than European! I think miles & feet would make more sense to me than kilometres & metres. I think that by the time we did our 3rd cache we were pretty much using your suggested system. However I have found it fine checking the red arrow in the Colorado, but I think that I'd prefer the map to orientate itself on the direction I am facing. Is that possible or would that make the red arrow not work?
  21. Thanks. The problem is that if I choose metric, I'll bet that the longer distances of miles will change to kilometres. I really don't want that!
