  1. Free speech generally means the Government can't block you. But these forums belong to Groundspeak, and they have the right to censor posts as they see fit.

Early users will remember a time when mentioning 'Dave Ulmer' in a post could result in the complete post being deleted.

One could ask why they don't push some cabbage towards the developer of the rogue app and make it the official one. I guess maybe they've invested too much into their own already.

Either way, I am looking forward to the official app and hope it will be as good as the official iPhone one.

  2. Just so everyone is very clear on this issue. The guideline reads :

Logging of an EarthCache must involve visitors undertaking some educational task that relates to the Earth science at the site. This could involve measuring or estimating the size of some feature or aspect of the site, collecting and recording data (such as time of a tidal bore), or sending an e-mail to the cache owner with the answer to Earth science related questions they obtained by reading an information display. While photographs may be requested, they do not take the place of other logging requirements. Taking a photograph alone or asking people to do internet research does NOT meet these logging guidelines. Requests for specific content in the photograph (must include the visitor's face, for example) will be considered an additional logging requirement and must be optional. Cache owners may not delete the cache seeker's log based solely on optional tasks.

I wonder if they haven't updated all the wording yet. When I go to the guidelines EarthCaches it states:

Logging an EarthCache find requires compliance with the requirements stated by the owner and the EarthCache website, including answering the required questions by email to the owner, providing original photos if so requested, etc.

  3. Unfortunately, due to the way some people have chosen to play the game (signing as a team, but members weren't there and logged online anyways), team signing is generally frowned upon.

But to speed things up, you can always just write the date once, and then have everyone sign under it.

  4. Everywhere on GC.Com, the order is Difficulty, and then Terrain.

Except when creating a pocket query. There, it is listed in the order Terrain, and then Difficulty.

Can the pocket query page be updated to match the rest of GC.com? It is rather confusing, since we all refer to difficulty first when referring to a cache.

  5. The subject, and text of this thread seems as if you are talking about 2 different things.

    Are you:

1 - trying to update the coordinates on the Colorado unit itself? If so, see g-o-cashers entry.

2 - are you trying to update your cache page on gc.com to reflect more up-to-date coordinates? If so, click on "Log your visit", and as the cache owner you will see a log type of 'Update Coordinates'.

  6. If you use GSAK, you can display the actual owner instead of the fake owner.

    Select View | Add/Delete Columns

and you will see "Placed By" and "Owner Name".

The "Placed By" is the fake owner, the "Owner Name" is the actual owner.

Just add "Owner Name" to your view, and everything you export will have the real owner in it.

  7. if there is a public one made that fits your need you can use it.

I am also unable to use any public queries, since I need to be able to get into the Route pages in order to search for a public query to use.

It is almost as if my account knows I am a Premium member for everything except for Routes. This used to work, but last year it suddenly stopped working for some reason.

  8. Yeah, it works for some people. That is what is odd.

When I try to go to:

    http://www.geocaching.com/my/userroutes.aspx

    I get this screen:

    http://www.geocaching.com/error/general.aspx

So I can't even get into the first screen. GC Support e-mailed me last June and said they were able to reproduce this error in my account, but it is in a "long list of issues for the development team to resolve".

I figured 9 months is starting to become a little unreasonable.

  9. Ticket ID: YDZ-765669

This has been happening for many months now (9 months now), an error message appearing when I click on the link.

I first reported it back in June 2007, and have not been able to access this option since then.

I was told it was 'low priority', and is 'on hold'. Which I assume means no one is working on it.

As a premium member, this is a feature I expect to be able to use. And is a feature I am paying for.
