  1. Well, Garmin appears to be removing Wherigo from it's latest model (i.e. Oregon 650t aka Montana)...so we can't expect a feature to be added to ALL new models.
  2. Sounded sweet until I learned there's no Wherigo!!!
  3. I have a Garmin Colorado 400t and will replace/upgrade it with either another Colorado 300/400 or an Oregon 450. The Oregon is tempting me for the 5,000 geocaches, touch screen interface for entering field notes, and not being a discontinued model; however, I love my Colorado so much it will be hard to give it up, so I would consider either N.O.S. or Refurbished to stick with it rather than upgrade.
  4. Since he can't boot w/o the SD card...putting the SD card in a card reader doesn't really matter. If he has corrupt geocaches, or a corrupt map, on the internal memory...then he needs to be in Mass Storage mode to access them. That's why I keep mine on the SD card...if I ever have issues I can simply pull the card to remove the corrupt data allowing me to boot the GPS.
  5. Before you do a reset... Does it have an SD card in it with maps/geocaches? Remove the SD card and try again. Will it connect in Mass Storage mode? Remove ALL the geocaches and any 'extra' maps you loaded and try again. Good luck!
  6. Just to clear the air...the Garmin 45 which I offered is spoken for and it's prior owner is thrilled it has finally found a new home.
  7. Try loading that PQ into GSAK...you can sort by Name, Distance, GCID, etc...and there's also a User Sort column where you can specify the exact order you want them sorted. Thanks for the help! What is gsak? Geocaching Swiss Army Knife http://gsak.net
  8. Can't help you on 1. 2. Holds 5,000 geocaches or 200 GPX files...whichever limit you hit first. So, if you load caches one at a time you'll only get 200 geocaches on there. If you use Pocket Queries of 1,000 each (assuming there is no overlap between them) you could fit 5 PQs for a total of 5,000 geocaches.
  9. Try loading that PQ into GSAK...you can sort by Name, Distance, GCID, etc...and there's also a User Sort column where you can specify the exact order you want them sorted.
  10. Simply NOT true...the 500/550 has a battery which can be swapped out by the user.
  11. That link takes me to a Garmin NUVI 1300LM on the Staples website. I seem to recall somebody posting a similar link in another thread which did the same thing...I think it was reported they had an error in their database and the Oregon was NOT selling at that crazy price of $189. You might consider editing your post.
  12. As much as I dislike the 'Date Placed' PQs, I think they would work much better than what you suggest...your method describe leaves huge gaps. e.g. Where are the Small, Large and Unknown 'Traditional' cache containers? They wouldn't fall under the first 3, due to size...and as soon as you start choosing cache types (e.g Multi) that would either eliminate them, or create a huge overlap, in item 4. However, you're welcome to do what works for you and your local area. To the OP...I highly recommend reading Markwell's page before setting up your PQs: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm
  13. I have a Garmin GPS 45 (which was given to me at an event I hosted last year) you can have if you pay the shipping.
  14. FREE Apps: MotionX GPS Lite Gaia GPS Lite
  15. Is that a preloaded SD card from Garmin...or City Navigator on DVD (or download) which is written to a 3rd Party SD card? What version of City Navigator? Thanks!
  16. As I said a few posts above...only to locate/read a CHIRP, you still can't "program" a CHIP with a Colorado. From Garmin's notes for the 3.52 beta firmware for the Colorado: "Added support for chirp™ detection. This software update will allow Colorado units to detect previously-programmed chirp™ units. See http://www.garmin.com/chirp for details on which units are chirp™ compatible. NOTE: Due to the hardware present in Colorado devices, chirp™ detection range may be less than that of other compatible devices."
  17. You'll want to build Pocket Queries: http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/default.aspx
  18. Upload your Field Notes here: http://www.geocaching.com/my/fieldnotes.aspx
  19. Geocaching with Geosphere I have both the GC.com app and Geosphere...based on my above recommendation, which do you think I use more frequently?
  20. GSAK won't help you if you're on a Mac. Really? I'm on a Mac and I'm running GSAK...been doing it for about a year now. I guess you've never heard of virtualization? VMware was the best investment I made when I purchased my Mac...now I have the best of both worlds.
  21. Connecting to the geocache GPX file on your Oregon 450 via MapSource isn't going to show your Found caches...that file is only read by the Oregon to load caches into its internal database where the status is maintained as field notes are created, the Oregon does not update the GPX file to show your Found caches. The only access you have to Finds logged on the Oregon (Colorado or Dakota, probably the 62 and 78 as well) is via the geocache_visits.txt file. Your best option is to log your finds on-line, then generate a MyFinds PQ to load into MapSource to see where your finds are...or simply look at the maps on Geocaching.com to see the status of caches you have/haven't found.
  22. Sounds like a tutorial on Pocket Queries would help and Markwell has an excellent one here: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm
  23. And I see now that if you select a predefined map (e.g. Florida) you can download immediately...no waiting!
  24. Didn't even realize they had their own forums...thanks.
