  1. I used the state search to see what new caches have popped up over the last few days. Searching from my home coordinates means going through several pages to pick out the new caches. Bring back the date placed sorting. PLEASE. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/

  3. I have been using GeoClipping to import cache descriptions into my palm for a while now, but it can also be used to create a clean text only version of the cache page for printing. It gives all the information you need and the option to include the logs. The program copies the info into the clipboard, and you can then paste it into any word processing program. I still use printed cache pages when I am going somewhere I don't really want to bring my palm. You can read about and download the Geoclipping software at: http://home.earthlink.net/~rschoolf/geoclipping.htm Here is a sample of what a clipped page looks like: GC8218 Woodpecker by Whidbey Walk N 48 27.346 W 122 38.297 (WGS-84) This is a normal-sized cache. Clipped on 08-24-2002 State: Washington Hidden on: 8/19/2002 Use Waypoint: GC8218 Difficulty: 2 Terrain: 2 This cache can be found after a pleasant walk through the Anacortes Community Forest Lands south of Heart Lake. The cache name was inspired by the several trees riddled with holes from woodpeckers along the trail. The easiest trailhead is located at N48 27.615 / W122 38.114. There is only parking for one vehicle, but it is seldom taken. Additional hints can be decrypted below. You can decrypt the hint with the chart, or you can cheat. 8. Let the cache owners decide if they want to leave his logs on their caches. If you have hunted for his hidden caches and feel they aren’t there post a log entry that they should be archived. That alerts other hiders and admin. Then they can make their own decisions. I don’t think that revoking a user account would send much of a message since very few people would actually know of the action. I’ve been through Marine Corps boot camp. If he is the type of person that would cheat and lie about something like geocaching, he’s sure to run afoul of a D.I or two at Parris Island. They will extract a retribution that a fellow cacher never could. I’m chuckling to myself just thinking about it. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/

  12. quote:Originally posted by BassonPilot:I will never do a cache where I have to seek permission from a cache owner first. I'd walk away from geocaching first. But happily, there are plenty of quality, public caches out there. I don’t mind MOC’s but agree with BassoonPilot statement regarding permission caches. quote:Originally posted by Jumpmaster:Having had two ammo box caches stolen from VERY well-hidden areas in the last 6 months as well as third one that belonged to a buddy, I think this is a great idea. I would be willing to pay for a membership to have access to a feature like this but it would be nice if everyone could use it. It's clear we have a looter in our particular neck of the woods and it's also very clear that they didn't just stumble onto the cache while out on a hike...they are, or WERE, very well-hidden. Well, it’s been my experience that very well hidden only lasts until the first finder. The caches then tend to become less and less hidden. Eventually statements like “…cache was sitting out in the open…” start to show up on log entries. Unless you revisit the cache after each find (logged on the site or not) you really don’t know how well they are hidden. I am still of the belief that the vast majority of missing or plundered caches are by accidental finders and that no matter what is done on this site that will continue to happen. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/
  13. I have a GPS 12 also. The conversion to feet would be nice but there is a bit of a work around to get a little more accurate countdown. Switch your GPS 12 to metric. It will then count down to .01 km, which is 10 meters, which is 32.81 feet. I use this some times when I go out with the kids. They are always asking, “How much further is it?” When I tell them that it’s .17 miles they just give me a blank stare, but if I tell them it’s 270 meters they are able to think in terms of a soccer field and have a pretty good idea of how far we have left. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/
  14. I recently got a Palm m125 (for Fathers Day) intending to primarily use it for geocaching. It does that just fine. It came with a USB cradle. I imagine that the m105 would work, but it comes with the serial cradle. I have lost a good deal of cache / sleep / work time to Bejewled. If you get a palm stay away from that game it’s like crack. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/

  16. What has always struck me as funny is how more often than not the person making the comment about the coordinates being off assumes that it must be the other person who is off. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/
  17. Here are a couple of one’s I’ve enjoyed. I do think that puzzle caches normally get fewer visitors than a traditional cache, but that’s true of caches with increased terrain difficulty also. Really good puzzles have ways of creating their own buzz and drawing seekers from far away lands (or at least the next state over). The Contact Cache Elegia Let Us Pass Over the River... http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/

  19. I think the approvers may have been a little hasty in disapproving this cache , but I do have a suggestion that should make the cache acceptable to them. If you were to rewrite the cache so that instead of posting that it is a survey marker you say it is a location with a fabulous view. Then require that any finders verify their find by emailing you what they find on the ground at this location. Then it becomes a very interesting virtual cache that just happens to use a benchmark to verify the find. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/

  23. Found it. There is an explanation on the cache page now. quote: August 5 by erik88l-r (372 found) Sorry, But www.goecaching.com has a sister site devoted to these benchmarks.
