Thank you for all your work. I had the first opportunity to test mine against 3 other gps units on a hike today. 9 miles, 3000+ elevation gained. My Vista HCX was low by 1300 feet in accumulated elevation gain

What are you missing?
When you opened the emailed file with GSAK, did you send it to your GPS?
So you have all the waypoints on your GPS and all the logs/descriptions on your Palm.
I am a n00b myself, and just went through the same thing. Like you cussed trying to find out how to install cachemate.

You could just go to the local high school and walk around the track four times...Why doesn't someone just go to the nearest interstate and walk from one mile marker to the next and see what the odomoter reads. I'm pretty sure the mile markers are set the proper distances apart. Plus you might find some hubcaps along the way or maybe a McDonald's cup.Even better idea.
Afraid of the freeway, and my local school track is in the bad part of town. So I went to the Gym, and walked a mile on one of those fancy treadmills with all the digital readouts and such. My track/odometer was way off. I think I need to send it in to garmin.

Garmin Vista HCx.
Is there an option to not show geocaches on the display. For when you are playing around, but do not want the clutter of all those caches? (yes, I live in an area where there are THAT many caches.)

I just was in this position a few days ago. brand new to whole thing.
It all went pretty Fast and easy. install GSAK, Cachemate, Palm Software.

Nice, when they close down Redwood up north, we can go back to mountainbiking in the redwoods like we used to before they kicked us off

Just got a Z22 today. Brain is tired. installing/setting up/messing with;
Palm Z22, Cachemate, GSAK, Pocket Queries.
Actually, it was all pretty easy. just takes some time to make sure all the exports/imports are pointed the right way and in the right formats.

Yes, the topo that came on the Mapsource SD card.
-
i've never purchased map on SD card but...
i am guessing you can either insert to memory card reader or your gps unit and from mapsource... tell it to receive from GPS? and select maps?
have you tried this simple method ?
Yes, I examined the file on a card reader, different formats than what is allowed to be imported to mapsource.
I think there needs to be a imprt conversion somewhere

I have a Vista HCx, and purchased the Mapsource topo for my region on the SD card.
I would like to view that topo in my Mapsource Program that came with the GPS.
I have searched the forums, but not coming up with anything.
Thank you.
