  1. Only 1 minor "run in" It was just about sundown this past August. The cache was in a park, near the furthest border with some houses. I was wandered around a little, collecting these (range)golf balls I kept finding - until I Realized someone was rapidly approaching from the west (NO stealth) It was a (MAD) neighbor who lives nearby that was also "on the hunt!" Apparently there were some kids hitting balls from a hill bout 200 feet away-right next to the parking area I was in. They were shelling him about 15 minutes before I arrived- some of the balls hit his shed, car etc (Mercedes, and a Lexus for the Wife) It took a bit of explaining what I was doing- especailly since I was standing there holding 10 golf balls. He finally told me to just get off his property, and never come back. "No Problem" I mummbled as I was getting out of there before He changed his mind. *I did make a loop back to the cache spot, and found it shortly before leaving. Not the worst thing ever, but it could have went far worse!
  2. In my profession there is a hazing ritual where every potential member must pay a lot of money to take a course and then pay the organization. . . . Sounds like a CPP? (certified Payroll pro) or CPA, etc-

  4. I start at "My page" - Then Right click the "discuss geocaching" and "open in new window" Then I have them both open. If you use Netscape (7+) "Open Link in New Tab" is also an option
  5. I don't care about statistics, but what I do care about is this "bug showing" tends to keep bugs stuck in one place for a long time. I agree. But that seems to be all the rage around here. Oh, that sort of includes the TB hotel/motel - which are used to swap out showed bugs. This area has a high quantitiy of bugs here now, and most have all gone thru this mess. My very first bug's goal was to avoid Any and All hotel/motels, and included a line about avoiding "Bug Mongers" - as I called them. I was then given the "why motels are good for bugs" speech, and ended up deleting the monger line. It was touchy to some. My first Bug was inducted by a finder who then passed it off to C. My second bug - she went after as well, but did not "get" My third is in WI now, hopefully safe from the fray. BTW- there is alot of "politics" in geocaching around here..... The whole group of MN cachers (MNGCA)with high bug counts- if you looked into it, youd see they all had the same bugs - many of which are owned by those in the stats race, and most all still hanging around in some event cache, etc. I expect "showing" will become a lot less popular now that "notes" don't count as finds. You have to actually grab the bug for it to count. That wasn't always the case. Thats when the big #'s were accumulated. I heard this recently- There are 3 kinds of lies. Lies, dadgum Lies and statistics. Congrats to the Buig Queen tho- I hear shes now going to change her geocaching objectives. *PS- This post will most likely cost me.....
  6. : Wisconsin county highway signs. First person has picture by sign County A, then second person by County B, etc. Once Z is reached, start over. Good One! My cabin is a mile off of (1 of the many) County Z's - Actually I could get probably 5 letters nailed down within 10 miles of the cabin... I like them myself- have had alot of fun doing them- and also learned alot about the GPS. Oh, and I only have 37 finds, 14 of which are Locationless, so Im not sure I quantify
  7. Ah, I missed this part when reading yesterday- I'll have to see If I can put something together- If I am successful, I will send one along! Great Idea! Should be fun to follow over the next year!
  8. Since I'm from MN, would I be eligible to start a bug here, have it continue counter-clockwise to Washington, then to CA,Texas,Fla,ME then back to me in MN? I'd need to establish a starting/ending point though. I suppose if more than 1 Minnesotan was going to play, then we would need 1 central starting cache for all of us? Would we need more than just me in MN? Or, would starting people mid country really throw a wrench into it? I'd be interested in playing - sounds like alot of fun - but can understand if it would cause way too many problems.
  9. Of course, there are people who will just grab the bug, for the bug count. Some of these people dont care at all what the Bugs goal is- they just want to record another Tbug find. Many of these people use "Bug Hotels" as a place for similar minded buggers to come and get their counts up. Many return to the same bug hotel often, and swap bugs in & out- but those bugs never seem to go anywhere. I have never read a Bug's goal tag or page that said "take me to a crappy cache for bug collectors, to be hoarded by as many people as possible, while only moving from hotel to hotel within the same city/suburb." I do agree tho, any travel is good travel. I just dont care for the idea of boosting tbug finds for the sake of the count. I'd rather see people move them somewhere (Anywhere) where they can be moved towards thier goal. Since I just started my first Bug this past weekend, It will be interesting to see where it winds up going. My goal clearly states it wishes to avoid hotels, so we'll see how long it takes to get stuck in one
  10. Some people in my area (MN) return repeatedly to certain "bug hotels" to grab or drop bugs. Some hotels are regularly visited by the same 10-15 people, who just keep the bugs accumulating, to be "found" by other bug hunters. Thing is, none of these bugs seem to travel very far, and most have completely different goals listed on their page. But since bugs are counted as finds, some people seem to go after as many as they can get. A bug hotel serves that purpose. I personally go for caches/Tbugs that I have not visted. I have only returned to a cache more than once to rdop bugs (my own).
