  1. I wonder if/when the original recipient of this letter will reply?
  2. I dont often trade, so I am usually tnln - but I usually write a short "good Cache" or nice hide- if its relevant. I will elaborate a bit more on the website than I do in the logs, because I dont like to hang around the cache site too long. Find it, log it , rehide it and go. It also depends how much time I have the day I am loggin my finds online. If Im short on time, its late, etc- I will be pretty brief. However, except for 1 exception- this has NEVER been the result of the cache hide, its contents, etc- Its just my practice.
  3. keep in mind the resources needed to run gc.com...... You have made a great site, and cachers have flocked to it in large numbers. Many have become premium memebers. This has obviously provided the resources needed to get where this site is today. Starting with nothing is possible, as you have shown but Locationless Caches were part of it when you started, or soon after. So a demand must have existed, or they never would have been included on the site. They became a burden, I can understand. So someone else should do it? Anyone who wanted "in" on this whole racket would have to know that the #1 competition is This Site. Your statement above seems to me to indicate that its either wait until you get time/resources to do it, or someone else should do it, and good luck- it can be done? (but it'll always be compared to us) Since I am not a premium member, I have no real expectations of how you run your site. I use it, and am alright with everthing. I can live with or without LC's, and be OK. However, it seems some users keep asking the question that started this thread. It seems youve given an answer, so I guess that should create yet another Markwell for someone to wait patiently to slap on the next person to ask. If it could be finalized, and released as info on the main page or something it would save alot of repeat postings of this topic.
  4. I should clarify - It was mentioned above (sorry, no time to dig) how IF someone else were to take over, moving the existing LC's (logs, etc) from GC.com to the new host would be ideal. I agree. My earlier comments assumed the "new" site would have to adopt this Pile-o-data, with all its technical responsibilities, needs and hit the ground running. I also assumed it would be equivilant to this site with its features, forums, etc. In that sense, No 486 is going to cut it- but of course something on a smaller scale could be put together. I guess this place just gave me a certain standard. That would be resources. *Wanted* GC.com seeks Full time Linux/MySql codemaster to work for free in the quest for CacheNirvana. Times are tight, and things work pretty good as is- so I wouldnt see a need to change (yet...?? guess we'll see) Oh, and thanks for the edit- I missed it.
  5. Edit/find on page <enter> does it everytime if you search by some other identifying feature - EG "Your city" I just search for "MN" on any locationless and see what comes up- pretty easy to identify any other finds in the state, city you seek. And if it is something specific in your city you can also search on the name of the actual object. Not the biggest hurdle, but still a problem. . . except many of the links are not working (yet) Also keep in mind the resources needed to run gc.com. Hardware, software, storage, tech experts & volunteers (etc, etc) I have no idea, but chances are Terra Cacher doesnt have enough of those resources to pull it off - and wouldnt be able to start out with nothing, and hope to "keep up" Look at everything that goes into gc.com - and the problems that still exist due to traffic. Well said. To each his own, right - Live and let live? I also agree that far to many "not so good" ones were approved- diluting the pool - I stick to the "if you dont like it, dont do it" thought- but overall enjoy them Counts? I dont care much about the numbers- If I did - I would have hit all of the hundreds and hundreds of caches within 10 miles of my house. I dont because I dont see any value in going to places that I am already familiar with or feel arent really interesting to begin with- Or much worse- dont feel safe going to. Selectiveness is key. (sorry, instead of replying, I edited your post. I reconstructed it for you - Jeremy)
  6. I learned of the golf ball thing on one of my first cache hunts in a park in a local suburb. The parking area is up on a hill, with the rest of the park sloping downwards to a lower flat area, bordered by a thin row of woods, with some very fancy houses behind it. (the houses face a lake, with thier backyards facing this park.) Apparently the parking area provides a nice Teebox for people to hit out into these woods - people who dont know there are $300,000+ houses, BMW's, Mercedes etc sitting just behind those trees. Well As Im searching, I begin to collect these old range balls to use as lake balls in the future. Just as I zero'd in on the cache stash spot, I heard a loud crashing coming thru the woods behind me. I turned around just in time to spot one of the homeowners coming at me in a rush, very red faced and cursing! He is looking for the *S.O.B* that was hitting balls about 10 minutes before I showed up- Apparently one found his Lexus's hood - a second his wifes BMW Convertible's rear window. Here I stand, with a hond full of golf balls... . . . It took some fast explaining, showing him my maps, print out & GPS'r - I told him we were standing within 2 feet of it, and showed him the arrow. I walked around a cluster of trees to grab it, then went over to him and showed it to him. He finally believed me, but warned me to never return to hit balls, "Or Else" I signed the log quickly, and waited until he turned his back to replace the cache before retreating double time to the truck. Im pretty sure the homeowner was ready to do some seriuos A**kickin, and I wasnt waiting around for him to change his mind. So, now whenever I see them - I hestitate to grab them- In a cache? I have only ever seen junk balls- and personally consider them geo-garbage.
  7. that way, no one can protest the new weapon as they're already convinced it's a hoax...... Plausible deniability I think its called . . . . Works most every time tho- B'ahhhhhh Ba'hhhhhh.
  8. I have to agree 100% We just had to put our #2 boy to sleep on Tuesday. He got cancer a while back, and the treatments just couldnt get him going again. He loved to play fetch, and was better at it than most dogs! He never lost interest after a few throws, and would always bring it right to you, and drop it at your feet. It was a short 7 years looking back, and I wish it was longer. Appreciate them for all thier quirks, traits, habits. Believe it or not, one day you might just end up missing the mess to clean up, the flowers to re-pot, the curtains to replace. RIP Cruiser - Forever My Buddy.

  14. How about searching for This Cache ?? Its in Minnesota, on the 45th -
  15. I'd say the nicest thing you could do would be to drop it in a cache, let it travel- Beyond that, I wouldnt worry about it. Just my .02

    Gps In Trees

One thing I do when accuracy is a problem is to switch between the map view (after selecting waypoint, goto) and the arrow. I'll even use the satelite screen, and just watch the coordinates & move accordingly. Between the 3 screens, and remebering to Look Up from the screen - I get by under most cover- Just my .02
  20. copy of email i recently sent: I tihnk the nice approach deserves at least 1 try- then a second, maybe slightly more agressive email- third one, turn on the burners - But when / if you get no reply- then you might just be wasting your energy typing...
  21. Tre-sure Tre-sure 2 tre-sure 3 All placed by ringbone- Best loot Ive heard of here in MN..........
  22. I try to stay away from big power tools that can take limbs off! Bob Vila or Paul Bunyan, I am not. Likewise! Thats why I went towards the cordless drill- they are easier to handle. Make a micro first using the drill, then get bigger from there as you feel comfortable-
  23. On smaller logs - you can use a cordless drill, and a cut out / holesaw Like this 6 Inch (Like the kind you use to drill a dead bolt hole in a front door-but bigger) You can get those in several sizes-not sure how big they come, but 3-4' should be enough for a micro? It will cut you about a 2-3 inche deep hole in the end of log - if you measure it out right, drill from both ends to make a tube about 4 inches long, maybe more. making ends for it, camo, etc- I will leave up to you - that is the easy part-
  24. Wouldn't the bride have one of these too? Not if she was wearing THIS ?
