  1. Including placing advertisements on Your cache page. Dont like it? Dont list it here, or accept your page becomes an advertising tool for Groundspeak.
  2. In netscape, it defaults to the older MSN map site- which is nothing compared to the new one- gotta use IE to see birdseye.... not sure on FF.....
  3. I got an email recently on my yahoo account, thru gc.com Doing leg work for another person, promoting this other person or the person in question.? Dont know. Did anyone else get one of these? If anyone cares to know the geo handl, PM me.
  4. I've got my hands in almost all the other hobbies mentioned below, so Id have to say no. In April, I paid over $500 for a 2 lb peice of aluminum- an adapter plate for my Jeep. To go with the many other parts that make it work. Those things have made it hard to afford batteries for my Gpsr.......
  5. Sorry, my comments were not directed at you, or anyone in particular. Check my numbers, it surely isnt me. I'll second that! Because then someone is logging finds of caches that are not listed on geocaching.com. The event may be listed. If the cacher was there, he or she can log "attended." OK, so here is the thing. People are getting upset about other cachers logging multiple ATTEND logs to signify the temp caches. There is a difference, even the little icon will tell you so. Find, and Attend are not the same thing. People arent logging multiple finds for temp caches at events. Then,it gets into the numbers thing, and the whos who in the pews.
  6. If Wal Mart doesn't prosecute petty shop lifters, then obviously... Some things just don't follow from others. Yeah, like a game and a crime. . . is it really necessary to keep the exact structures for the purposes of an analogy? the analogy, for those skilled in higher reasoning skills, might make a point using a comparison in which the similarity is not necessarily in the same category. That is sometimes called a stretch of "logic"....... Only if you can accept the rational of the seriousness of the issue. "Unethical" for instance...... To make a good analogy, it has to pass at least a few sniff tests of reason so that most people get it, and the others dont call it apples to oranges. Well said. I'll bet close to 95% of people doing any of this "unethical behavior" have no idea some people who come to the forums regularly are getting so worked up about it, or care so much about Thier activities. Bingo. "shes a witch.......burn her!" If people are looking for those things from people on the internet they have never met, and most likely wont- using nothing more than stats then they have larger issues than logging practices. "simple rhetorical devices" such as mine presented above: Ooops. I guess thats saarcastic, but I dont owe anybody an answer anyway. Did yourube either genuinely or deliberately fail to understand that simple analogy? better save your money for that coffee.
  7. Well, then you can get down to the definition of what "right" is, and to what extent it can be applied to the logic of playing a game by yourself. . . and what others think of your activities. Am I caching Right? Thats rhetorical, since I am really the only one capable of answering that question. Late Friday, and Im slipping out- Enjoy the weekend caching
  8. We're still chopping up images for the new site. I'll post a link back to the request form when I add the photo there. It is a Red Jeep Commander this year. Cool! I'll keep an eye on this thread for updates!
  9. If Wal Mart doesn't prosecute petty shop lifters, then obviously... Some things just don't follow from others. Yeah, like a game and a crime. . .
  10. Yes, and as Ive told my wife a dozen times - Youve made your point. More than once. Please give it a rest and Quit yer Bit. . . . well you know the rest. Its glaringly obvious how some people view other peoples behavior. Everyone who bothers to read here knows that. Geo-ethics would dictate that the other 4-5 states that host multpiple log events would all get thier own bashing thread, not just WI. Nope. Whats fair for one is fair for all right? Nope. Maybe its the puritans that need to break away from all the regular people, or "chaff" as they like to call it. Start thier own, highly regulated, highly rule oriented, strictly enforced caching site. To get a smiley, each and every find has to be pre approved by the hider, and the board of governors of this new kingdom of righteousness. I dont double log as a practice, but dont fault anyone for doing it. I dont cache to get to involved in other peoples business. If I never read a single one of these posts, Id be all the more happier as a person, and a cacher.
  11. Yes. And yes. In fact, there are quite a few off-site prizes for achieving various levels of finds. I find it pretty funny when people in these threads claim that there are no prizes for getting more smileys. The statement is just plain false. Care to back this statement up? I really want to know where these prizes can be had, so I can inflate my numbers, and go pick up my prize
  12. This cache is on 10 different bookmark lists..... " Einfach schön" Bookmark list "google Caches"[ /url] Couch Caching bookmark list Some people seem to enjoy doing these- I guess someone better jump in and ruin thier fun
  13. If you are trying to use other peoples numbers, then yes they are. I too hardly ever mention signing the log, kind of like not mentioning turning on the gps. I usually try to write about my experience. This past weekend, the first time I have ever really cached with other people - I intrtoducred my wife and her mom to the sport. I let them sign the caches we found, and never thought to tell them to be sure and stick my name in there.... Opps! But i did locate the cache. I also let them open it, and re hide it too... I dont consider these to be any less of finds than any of my others.
  14. In MN, and WI - putting a biting insects attribute on a cache would be redundant. Any place not covered in blacktop or conrete has biting insects of one kind or another about 9 months of each year. Gnats, mosquitos, flies, bees, wasps, hornets, deer flies, horse flies...... Especially at sundown. Maybe the attribute could have a sunset backround with a huge 'skeeter in the middle? I think someone has an avatar like that.....hmm.... Although it would be useful, I think it would add clutter to that area. Ive put it in my page desription, and suggest bug spray, etc-
  15. In WI, near my cabin there is a series of caches called "local landings" which are all public landings, and most all are boat launches. Luckily, I know the area well enough already, but cruising through the area with a boat, a person could easily hit these. I usually check a map, see a lake, and if I have the license for that state I fish a bit while I can. I will mention this to the cache placer, and see if he will consider listing them as ... those. (I have done so with my own)
  16. I agree with the part I removed, but thier reasoning has been presented, (Im not sure if it is here in this thread?) The temp caches may not be listed here for various reasons, but in the spirit of this game, are indeed "caches". Hidden boxes of goodies, with coords to be found. "Here are some coords, go find what I hid"- Thats Caching isnt it, as it originated? The guidelines. . . . Yeah, its true they dont comform to the guidelines exactly, but Ive read Jeremys posts and see that it isnt the tidal wave of a problem that some make it to be. "what if....." arguments aside- cache page owners, hosts of the event have the discretion. Remember, all those temp caches are scouted, placed, coords are marked and checked and a list put together, copied, distributed - then all picked up afterwards. In the spirit of "the game" these people are working alot harder to host these events than the people typing their outrage/disgust against it. Yes, others do it differently. So, in that case- remember that multiple attends probably means multiple temp caches found(that were scouted, hidden, found and removed in the same day, usually more)- All in the spirit of game and to bring other cachers together for a good time. They know what thier own stats represent. Isnt that good enough for the rest of you who disagree?
  17. You have no idea how seriously I take the game, unless you are simply judging by these posts. My find numbers are accurate, 100%. Thing is, I have no desire to compare myself to you, or anyone else in any other state for that matter. I dont cache, to compare myself to others. Yeah, I bet its hard to compare yourself to others stats if you are unsure how they log caches- but in reality- WHY do you need to compare yourself to anyone? Are you one of Those kind of people? Do you need the validation that you are in some way better than someone else? Unless someone is saying "Look how many of XXX's Ive found- IM better than everyone! " Than I dont know why you would bother researching thier stats, then applying a judgement towards their character based on those stats- As for your last question- I seem to have identified your problem. People are NOT extra getting smilies for logging events multiple times- they are getting multiple attend logs. (see title of thread) If you cant distinguish between someones smilies (found caches) and thier "attended" logs for events in their profile, then you have other issues altogether such as vision, etc. An Attend is Not a Smilie. And again, why do you care how many times someone logs an event? Unless its Your cache, its not your problem.
  18. Lets look at the instructions for events. They have an "I attended log". They don't have a "I found an event only cache Log". They don't have an "Attended multiple times log". So if you log "Attended" 20 times. How is that following the instructions that you have to work with? Or is your attended defined different than my attended? How is what people in WI are doing at events relevant to you, way over in Idaho, or wherever you are? Its Not. Apparently some people in Wisconsins' logging of events is in fact, different from your example. Its been desribed more than once the reasons they do it, etc- its thier choice - The cache page owner/event holder, but Not yours. It sounds like the instructions given, by the event host - were in fact to log in just the way everyone did. Dont like it? Dont host an event that allows it. And dont come to WI, becuase Im guessing you wouldnt be to welcome there. Btw, I have only attended 1 event, 1 time.
  19. You are entitled to your opinion. That doesnt make it right, or wrong-but just that- your opinion. Maybe obsessing with how others in the wprld are enjoying themselves? Defining your character based on how to play a game with very little rules seems rather closed minded. I guess if we played checkers, and I crowned a king (whereas you prefer to drop the extra) than I am a low down scum and cant be spoken too. Its a GAME. You dont dictate the rules. Assign any adjective you'd like, but your opionion is just that- Your opinion. ^Agreed 100% It amazes me how much people from far across the country get so upset with people they have never met (or never will), have no relations to- and go on and on bashing thier character. To mee, that is alot more telling of someones chracter- If you are willing judge a person so harshly based on a game, from across the nation - then you are the one lacking character.
  20. I still dont get it why You feel your opinion should dictate the operation of a worldwide site? Thats a pretty simple conecpt isnt it? "you ask to change the name" - OK, so you have an opnion. Then you bring in the political carp, and put that spin on it. - that kind of defeats any claim you may have had.
  21. Then why have a "letterbox hybrid" type cache listing in the first place ? Doesnt seem to serve any real purpose if their really isnt any difference - just another icon tho-
  22. Cool Cache Containers, but that wasnt the point I was aimeing at- Who is, to be more proper- Since this is all about numbers and integrity, I thought for sure that would come up, but it seems that horse has finally been laid to rest. Forget I brought it up......
