  1. wtf??? Why does europe get 1 more year on warranty?
  2. Since I havent shelled out the money for Mapcreate yet, I'm using GDM6 for waypoint transfer, and gpsbabel for the waypoint conversion. Thats it! No offense to Clyde or anything, but the swiss army knife program is too much for me. I dont cache that much to need that many customizable option. (it is a good program though from what I hear)
  3. Another reason not to get them is that they always get discontinued in a couple of years. Youre making yourself dependent on these companies so that you can use your GPS. Screw that... PS. doing my best to beat the horse out of its misery here...
  4. boomer's just like me... i think I went through about 20 GPS's before I finally settled down on the iFinder. good luck man
  5. Seriously.... calibrating the compass takes what? 10, 15 seconds, tops? Id rather sit there for 5 minutes calibrating my compass then have to live with that stupid lithium battery pack. I swear, laziness is going to kill us all.
  6. Unfortunately, you bought a GPS that is known for a weak antenna. When approaching a cache though, the GPS will never zero out. The accuracy of the thing itself prevents it from ever getting to zero feet. This includes all GPS receivers, not just the Legend. They are only so accurate. You can try a couple of things: Hold the GPS flat in front of you; not at an angle or upside down or in your pocket. If that doesnt help, you may want to think about getting a GPS with a stronger antenna. Also, dont use your GPS for direction when you get close to the cache. Just use your head and look for a spot that looks obvious. Good luck!
  7. Nevermind, I saw the post about this below... I guess this feature is a premium members only thing. Click the back button before you waste any more time here.
  8. Im taking a stab in the dark here knowing that this has probably been brought up before, but here we go... I would like to be able to filter my cache searches online so that I can specify what difficulty/terrain rating cache Im looking for (for instance, I want only caches with 3+ terrain in my local area) . Im getting sick and tired of having to scroll through pages and pages of 1/1 caches. No offense to anybody, really! I just prefer more difficult caches. I know there is software out there that can do this for me, but Id prefer to do it online incase Im away from my computer. Anybody else with me on this one?
  9. Weird... It seems they took that feature off the H20 and the Pro versions, but put it back on for the Hunt, and PHD. The thing that sucks is that the power saver was the only way you could turn WAAs on and off and change the update rate. I thought it was pretty useful..
  10. signal strength is measured by a value called "C/No" or "Carrier to Noise ratio". Its limits are from 0 to 100, 100 being the strongest, clearest signal. Thats what those bars represent.
  11. Lowrance rules! Brian, is it true that the iFinder H20 and Pro dont include the power saving function? I was messing around with the emulator and its not on there!
  12. The color version is going to rock. If it goes down a price a little before christmas, I know what Ill be asking for!
  13. Cool, I found it too. MapSource Version 6.5 to 6.7 Differences 1. This will be the last version of MapSource to support reading/importing PCX5 files. For future compatibility, please migrate your data to the GPX format. 2. Added route road and area avoidances. To access avoidances, select "Manage Route Avoidances" on the Routing tab of the preferences dialog. Once avoidances are created, they are displayed on the main map if appropriate for the current map product. 3. Added "Auto" option to the display of route avoidances. This will hide route avoidances when the map is zoomed out far enough. 4. Added new "large" 24x24 pixel waypoint and map symbols. Select these symbols on the Display tab of the preferences dialog. Custom waypoint symbols can now be 24x24 and 32-bit color as well. 5. Added the ability to show or hide the left hand (user data) pane. 6. Added tooltips to the waypoint symbol selector with the name of the waypoint type. 7. Added celestial information dialog. 8. Added schema extension to GPX for handling Garmin-specific data elements, such as waypoint depth. The location of the schema is documented in outputted GPX files. 9. Updated the GPX Garmin extension (GPXXv1) to version 2 (GPXXv2) based on comments. GPXXv1 will not be supported. 10. Added ability to manually set the Y-axis endpoints on vertical profile plots. 11. Improved error handling while transferring data to removable media and Garmin cards. 17. Improved autoroute ETE accuracy. 18. Improved MapSource's behavior on a PC with multiple monitors. 19. Changed wrecks, obstructions, and isolated dangers to display the corresponding spot depth when it is known. This is enabled by turning on "Spot Soundings" in the Display preferences page. 20. Changed MapSource to use Windows XP styles on PC's that support this. 21. Changed the track vertical profile to use the same graphing style as the route vertical profile. 22. Change to not display find category types that aren't valid for a particular map product. 23. Change to optimize deleting multiple waypoints from a route. 24. Change to reduce flickering of pop-ups on the map. 25. Change to validate trackpoint timestamps before they are sent to a unit. 26. Change to make user and non-user waypoint dialogs have consistent "Show on Map" behavior. 27. Changed waypoint symbol images to remove duplicate symbols. 28. Change to more gracefully handle the case where a user transferring maps to a Palm doesn't have enough hard drive space. 29. Changed behavior of toolbar combo boxes to behave more like standard combo boxes. 30. Change to show stacked pop-up windows over densely packed map features. 31. Changed behavior of some BlueChart map features to display the name instead of depth. 32. Change so that GPX route import doesn't always autoname the route. 33. Changed formatting of Japanese address results. 34. Changed the default "Terrain Shading" option on the preferences display page to be on. 35. Changed vertical profile windows so that they remember their last size and position. 36. Changed string "iQue" in Device dialog to "Palm OS Device". 37. This caused the via point list on the GPS to have incorrect names. 65. Fixed feature category and subcategory filtering in find nearest dialog.
  14. Just checked amazon.com and I cant help but think its a typo, but the Vista C is only $2 more than the Legend C!
  15. That all depends. The Vista is just a Legend with a mag compass and altimeter. If you find yourself getting dropped by the satellites alot out hiking around, then those two extra features might be useful. Decide for yourself what youll be doing with your GPS. ...And holy crap, the Vista C is only 2$ more than the Legend C on amazon.com right now!!
  16. Check out the Lowrance iFinders before you rule out Lowrance like most everyone else does around here... But yeah, any GPS from either Garmin or Magellan is a good choice too. In my opinion though, you should steer clear of any GPS that uses Lithium ion battery packs instead of AA.
  17. hate them! I think its obvious that people who buy these units dont think long term. They dont realize that in a year or so they will have to buy a new battery at $30 or more and worse yet might have to send it in to the company and have THEM replace it at even more cost. And dumber YET, lithiums degrade a lot faster over time giving you less and less juice everytime you use your GPS. If youve only got one battery, you had better cut your trips shorter and shorter. All of this to shave 4 seconds off of the time it takes to charge your batteries.
  18. For $100, check out either the iFinder Go or Go2. iFinder Go Go2 Both have WAAS, a basemap of the entire US, are waterproof and have some of the best antennas on the market for satellite reception. $68 for the GO, $90 for the Go2. For just $20 more, you could get the regular ifinder which has a basemap of the entire world, detailed mapping, and computer connection.
  19. Check out the Lowrance iFinder. holds a lock in the trees like no other GPS out there! It also maps, has waas, a 10,000 pt track log, and takes memory cards. $119 for all of that... unbelievable. Just DONT get an etrex!
  20. Ok heres what I found... I did use that hidden page you were talking about by hitting the down button 3 times. I looked at the "St" column, standing for status I guess. For the satellites that were just picked up, it changes from "37" to "3F" to "2F" to "BF". For the ones that were locked on and bold, "BF" was showing. Now, when the strength dropped below about 25 CNO, the bars turned grey again and either "AF", "8D" or "AD" was showing. edit: I found out what those terms mean too, but the process behind them is confusing. Click here for information on terms The table is on page 12 of that PDF
  21. hey cool man, I didnt even know about that hidden satellite page! Ill give what you said a shot right now. Im going out for a hike. Ill let you know what I find later today.
  22. ive been fooling around with this new firmware that lowrance released (1.8) and it seems like a lot of things changed. might just be me though does anyone know if the bolded signal strength bars on lowrance mean that the GPS is navigating with that particular satellite or only if it has collected the data needed (like garmin does). I read somewhere that some gps's use one or the other. I ask this is because I was using my GPS today and certain satellites would drop back to "grey" color after being bold. My garmin V never does this. Im guessing the bold bars mean that the GPS is actually navigating with that satellite and it drops certain ones that have weak signal or poor geometry. anyone else know lowrance stuff really well here?
