  1. Another vote for the Canon Powershot A570IS. You can go from totally automatic to total control (including focusing), image stabilisation, a fast (2.6) lens, etc. I have never owned a Canon, and I am completely blown away by this thing, especially considering the price which is $136 shipped from Amazon. It really makes me look like a better photographer than I am.
  2. I'm struggling to see the issue here...not only is this NOT against the rules, but it doesn't even look like the guy is claiming FTF rights (whatever THEY are).
  3. I am totally making one of those...awesome.
  4. I did a puzzle cache once that did something similar...once you got to the "real" coordinates, take a bearing of 255 degrees and walk 100 feet.
  5. Here is the absolute easiest way for me: - from *any* cache page on www.geocaching.com, click on the "other conversions..." link right next to the coordinates for that cache. For instance here is the "other conversions..." page for GCVMZP. - use the drop-down menu to select what your starting format is (DD.DDDDDD, DD MM.MMM, or DD MM SS.SS). - plug in your coords, and it will then display them in all 3 formats (plus NAD27, UTM, and British Grid). Good luck!
  6. I just showed it to my kids (while they were eating nachos!), and they thought it was funny. Ages 7, 9, and 9.
  7. I think it's funny, but I'm pretty warped about such things. I found a cache inside a fake animal one time, and while initially I was kind of startled, I actually laughed out loud after a moment (something I don't think I've *ever* done while alone).
  8. It doesn't say "clearly" posted, it says "legally" posted...meaning it probably has to be posted in the area of the building permit. I'm not trying to bust your chops, just letting you know that these construction areas are looked at a little differently these days (terror! terror! terror!), and I'm guessing they won't care which entrance you used. Good luck in securing that area for a cache, though, it sounds nice.
  9. Flight Simulator Technician Mostly helicopters (Sikorsky), but we do have one fixed-wing simulator (Piaggio).
  10. Not sure about everywhere, but I think trespassing in a construction area in Florida is a felony.
  11. OK, dang the ripped britches and torn legs and the TSA and the rock and roll concerts, several *wink* lucky geocachers have P-38s and P-51s inbound, take care and use them in good health. If you happen to find a TeamGumbo military can opener in a cache, please be careful! Kindest regards, Vickers P.S. After, oh, 25 years or so of working around box cutters and really tall telecommunications towers and power tools and knives and machine guns and axes and hatchets and forklifts and tin snips and steel benders and what-not, my ugliest work-related scar is from a ... . . . . . . . . . . . . . pair of Vise-Grips that I punched through my palm. Cheers!
  12. Our team is me and my kids. We ain't too concerned about the numbers...more concerned about alligators.
  13. Sanyo Eneloops Pretty much the same as the ROV Hybrids. Last a LONG time when not in use, and much longer than higher mAh rated rechargeables.
  14. P.S. Weird that the St. Petersburg posts are suddenly such small fonts!
  15. I think you are confusing commercial caches with member perks. From the guidelines page: I'm sure you can see the difference. If not, well, I think you've made up your mind. There was a time when I was very poor (not so long ago). I cut out pretty much *all* extra-curricular activities that cost me ANYTHING. The public beach was my only recreation. I made a CONSCIOUS decision to save money. And now I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams!
  16. Well, I'll be the lonely voice voting for the 201. I bought 4 of them for my kids (yes, I have 4 kids), and they are easy to use and very accurate. I bought them online for $49, got cases for $9.99 apiece, and got the cable for $12.95. All of them are also pretty good at entering the coords by hand (useful for multi-caches, and when I'm too lazy to download to FOUR receivers). Got all of the kids hooked up for under $250 shipped. Dang, I just went to the site where I ordered them for so cheap, and it looks like they are out of 'em (www.edgegps.com, no affiliation). If nothing else I can vouch for them as a satisfied customer. FTR, I have a Geko 101 that I've used for about 5 years, and it has been bulletproof.
  17. OK, after reading all the pro-ham replies, I ordered a ham radio study guide. I took part of a sample test online and did very well (I already have an FCC GROL), so I'll take the test in a few weeks.
  18. We have a bunch of Garmin handhelds in our family, but had never had a Magellan. When my wife wanted a GPS for the car, I picked up a Magellan 1200 on sale. Took several hours for the zipped update to download (DSL), and then I could never get it to launch. Their customer service had no suggestions. I took it back to the store and got a TomTom One 3rd Edition, and it has been great (same price).
  19. Although I'm new, I have seen many posts slagging off the high-number guys here and there, but I just want to say that TeamAlamo was a class act to me...I posted a note/question to one of their puzzle caches and they took the time to email me with a hint on where to park/access the cache.
