  1. I found a cache like that, thought it was pretty clever. The funny thing is, it was out in the middle of nowhere, and I was thinking, What an odd place to put a birdhouse....D'OH!
  2. The photography aspect of geocaching is the most enjoyable for me. I don't post a photo to every cache I find, but I do for a good percentage. I think I've become a better photographer as a result, and I've certainly learned a lot more about our local plants and critters. I was looking around the site the other day and saw someone with *hundreds* of finds and not a single photo in their gallery...that seems pretty remarkable.
  3. There is one near me named No No Ernesto that tok me FIVE trips to find (I forgot to log one DNF). It's very close to the place where my son goes for golf lessons, so I figured I would swing by there for a quick PnG...no way. Ended up coming back again and again and... Here are a few of my log entries: "Wow, I had an experience similar to Wayfinder, except I walked up to it and then spent about 2 hours climbing and poking and...meh." (Wayfinder had a log entry that said he found it in about 10 seconds!) "Well I should get some kind of Honorary Doctorate for this cache...I took the kids out there, and even posted a $10 reward, but we were unsuccessful. Another 45 minutes." "Well, I think I just have to let this one go. Three trips, one with 3 helpers, a good hint...nothing. I think that someone could put my HAND right on the container and my brain would refuse to see it at this point." Even when I found it I said "I was already mentally composing yet another DNF on the way to this one. I was thinking, why torture yourself?"
  4. Aaaaargh, I have been looking for one of these just in case the one I have bombs out! Congrats to the seller and buyer, though...I love mine (see avatar).
  5. Dude, I would TOTALLY spend *hours* looking for a lost GPS, hell I spent 5 trips and a total of about 7 hours looking for a bison tube one time!
  6. This was taken after a long hike through a lot of water, and was worth it: Apoxee End Trail (GC19N4E)
  7. I think that one clearly violates the commercial cache ban: maybe it's even a *textbook* example of a commercial cache! Heck, I had a cache (Over Under) get denied because a photo I used (with permission) originally had the website where I got it from on the photo itself (per their requirement). I had to edit it to thank the guy by name only.
  8. I either cache solo or with my kids...I'd prefer to be with my kids.
  9. Those sound like very useful items. Our company was getting rid of some lanyards, and I put them in a few caches...I figured folks could use them to hang their GPSr, a pen, a compass, etc. on there.
  10. I would be thrilled to find something like that...but MAN, how much spare time do you have? It would take me forever to do something like that.
  11. I think it's fine to ask for a hint (and fine to GIVE a hint). I have given out a few hints to the puzzle caches I've placed...I'm always flattered that people would even look for something I put out there. I *want* folks to find the doggone things!
  12. I'm beginning to think I ain't pure enough for this geocaching thing...
  13. Yup, good advice to be careful with MEK (or *any* [non-water] solvent for that matter) When I suggested it, I considered giving the standard gloves/ventilation warnings, but I figured anybody that has access to it is well aware of the handling precautions.
  14. Uh oh, sounds like *someone* has a little knitting fetish, tee hee!
  15. I'm just glad to see that there is something we can all agree on.
  16. Not sure what cheap is to you, but I recently bought a Canon A570IS and I am very happy with it. It is $136 at Amazon, and well worth it.
  17. I use MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) to remove the yellow markings. Takes it completely off in about 10 seconds and does not affect the olive drab paint underneath.
  18. I have only found one WalMart LPC, but I thought it was incredibly clever...not because it was an LPC, but because: - it was a fun puzzle cache, and - it had a funny name (Small Town Killer).
  19. Before the initial page is even finished loading.
