  1. WAAS is pretty spotty here in BC. In Alberta/Saskatchewan, in my experience it was much better? Although last week at a cache near an international airport nearby, I could have sworn I had lock on WAAS sats. I dunno edited: I stand corrected on the number of WAAS sats.

    DONE! I AM CANADIAN! <-----clicky
  3. Thanks Jamethiel! Of course, I'll be looking to convert my sister and brother-in-law to caching once we're down there.
  4. We're probably looking to make good time from Seattle to Missoula. Maybe a stop somewhere in between. No doubt, there is probably a miriad of caches....
  5. Our family will be heading to Missoula and Hamilton, MT. area at the end of July. We will be taking the I-5 south from the Canadian border to Seattle, then taking the I-90 east. Any cache destinations or detours that you recommend on the way there? How about once we get to the Hamilton area? Thanks.
  6. Naw, the comment about benchmarks seems to be a common thought/wish. The Trans-Canada series of caches would be kinda cool....never thought of that.
  7. Thanks for the response PDOPs. The geocoins as a TB was something I didn't know about. Recently, we had a US geocoin locally and I thought, "Hey, that's neat that a graphic shows up on the cache page notifying all that something special was dropped in the cache." I wonder if they would reconsider and reinstate geocoins as a moveable type TB item. Good point on benchmarking....the closest benchmarks that we have access to are on Point Roberts, near Blaine, Washington. Anyone else?
  8. Alright, I have a wishlist. Canada Day is coming and for Canada's Birthday, I had some ideas that might make GC.com a bit more hospitable (not that it already isn't) to the uniqueness of Canada. These would make great presents to the members north of the 49th parallel (and lower in some areas ) in time for July 1st: 1) why do the geocaching.com maps show Canada as this great big grey void? Yet south of the border the map images show lakes, rivers, mountains, etc. At least, we could be the "Great White North".... WISH #1....maps that would show Canada in it's majesty.....lotsa lakes, water, mountains....you get the idea. 2) under the user stats "list of items found", you can see a breakdown of various items including US geocoins, Moun10Bike coins, and other coin counts..... WISH #2..... that this page would recognize Canadian Geocoins. Darn, ran out of steam already..... What features would you like to see on GC.com that take into account the "Canadian" factor?
  9. Great idea. I also carry some extra supplies with me not only to maintain some caches, but also to maintain some of the TBs I come into contact with. Not to detract from your original post, but I found the following also valuable: 1. 3M instant laminating sheets. They can be bought at Staples in various sizes. I carry 4x6 and 3x5 for the geocaching page that you put inside caches as well as TBs. 2. flagging tape ..... sometimes cache maintenance might mean that you can't replace the cache where it once was and had to move it. Along with a the note you will probably log with the new coords to the owner, a little piece of flagging tape would help the owner in finding and retrieving the cache. 3. extra swag ..... I know it's not about the loot, but recently, we had some cache rogues around here who liked to clean out caches. Little things to replenish a cache like GPS food are invaluable. 4. large black Glad garbage bags.....meant to line a cache container if required. 5. a couple of extra 600 - 1000ml Lock 'N Lock containers. You have some great ideas!
  10. LOL...it frustrates me that it took until that post to laugh out loud (kidding). Nice sig line too.
  11. I have used something like the Aspen Pet Identification Tube as have some others in the neighbourhood. It screws tight so no water can get in. Even when the GPSr has 7m accuracy, it makes it very difficult to find.
  12. Me: -34 -male -married -3 kids -cheap dad who couldn't afford $20 a day last summer to do summer activities with the kids during summer break, so found out about geocaching - 2 psycho cats - I did play D&D as a teen....was a Ranger you know. - have an interest in Apple computers, webpages, just wireless networked my Apple computer and an old P II dedicated for caching - some intelligence, but try explaining that to some geomuggle who sees me crawling around on my hands and knees just off of a trail - former Air Cadet, army reservist - love being outdoors - have a huge interest in geography
  13. Well, I have to give my 2 cents to GPS Central....from store to door in two days....had to wait an extra seven days before Christmas before I could play with it Visited their store in Calgary last summer and the staff was very knowledgeable, stood behind their product, let me log a few finds on their computer (I was on vacation), and let me examine other GPSrs.
  14. Posts made by most of the Canadian crowd have left me with an ill feeling, but everyone else is pretty much ok Maybe that's it....I thought it was all the devilled eggs I ate for lunch........ Ok...just finished reading more Canadian threads, and I've decided it wasn't the eggs afterall... What the.......... Since when did this thread become an opportunity to bash your fellow Canucks north of the border? Actually, while I'm here, how is it that a thread that was started last Aug/03 suddenly finds its way back up on the top of the thread heap in Apr/04 and then suddenly gets moved?
  15. Yeah, Save On Foods have had it for about the last two "bonus points" catalogues. I was going to put my points towards the Legend until I found out about GPS Central (which is still a better deal when you estimate how much $ you would have to spend plus the overall points you would need to accumulate). Even still, if you gas up at SOF, with gas prices the way that they are, you could have that GPSr in no time if you've got a couple of SUVs!
  16. Canadian Tire "bottled up" this one up pretty fast. Received the catalogue last Wednesday, and it did state $199. Called the Chilliwack site, and the price correction notice had already been sent. They referred me to corporate headquarters and they referred me to the disclaimer at the back of the catalogue . So....tried upcountry....Prince George, no go.....then tried Quesnel. The sales associate there said, "Whoa, that's a big goof on someone's part." She then pulled up the item # and an official correction had already been done; however, she did put us in contact with the store manager. After barking up that tree, we gave in ..... no 60c for $199. It was worth a try....
  17. Hey Team Oddball, when the event cache page is approved, could you please post it so that I could add it to my watchlist? I'll be watching from interest on the West Coast!
  18. Good to hear from you BD. It's OK if you take a hiatus....that way I can catch up to your cache find totals! No, seriously.....as someone who "cut his geocaching teeth" on your caches, it's good to hear that you'll give it a go once again in the near future. Once again, I'm at your service (or disposal) should we want to organize a cache event in the Eastern FV. I've got a 3-4 containers, half-full and almost ready to hide. Perhaps a Pub Nite at Major League to kick it off in a couple of months.
  19. Thanks for all the responses, White Owl. Looking forward to it!
  20. A couple of questions: 1) have TBs been sent in yet? If not, where could they be sent to? 2) will the race rules be the same, or similar? 3) are there any limits to how many entries can be registered to a cacher? (my son would like to join, but doesn't have his own account) 4) when would the start date and end dates be? Thanks, DocMagoo
  21. Then, of course, there's PDOP's Obed Summit Cache on the way to Jasper. It's a nice place to get out and stretch the legs. We did a few in Calgary last summer on the way to Red Deer. While in Calgary, check out: Skyline CK1 (?) -- it's by the Calgary Zoo up on a knoll with a terrific postcard view of Calgary's skyline On The Nose On Final 28 -- watch the noise from the aircraft going overhead... Company's Leaving 28
  22. There will be a 2004 race. We are looking at an early April start time. Keep looking at the forums in late January or Febuary for details. Thanks to everyone for your interest and support. WO White Owl, any news yet? I've got my tags and a durable TB now........just waiting for the official confirmation and start up date.
  23. BUMP...... Any news? The TB tags are here and sitting empty....now, gotta find a good durable TB.
