  1. WINE and Garmin / gps stuff traditionally does not get along very well. gpsbabel is trivial once you get it set up. I run it from a shell script (split across lines for legibility): The shell script does more tricks but that's how I send files to the foretrex. Well...i've never had a linux before...and I just know my friend was telling me to put ubuntu on it. Am I going to have to run that script every time I want to run gpsbabel? I suppose I don't understand what the program does.
  2. I think I'm going to stay away from gpsbabel. I'm thinking....like running Wine on there....or...just if there is a download of garmin communicator somewhere that runs on linux, just some way to download from the site directly to the gps using the linux.
  3. So I just bought an Asus Eee PC 4G 701 and am running ubuntu and was planning on using it out when I'm caching with my colorado to get wifi and download new waypoints around. Since the colorado has the paperless caching, I don't need a program like watcher or gsak, as long as when i plug in my colorado (or GPSmap 60csx for that matter) into the usb, I'll be able to download waypoints directly to the garmin via the plugin. I guess what I'm asking is if garmin communicator works on linux. Is this going to work while I'm running ubuntu or do I need to put windows on it?

  5. do we know yet what the Topo program will be on the 400t? Is it going to be topo 08? 24?
  6. I'm debating if I should put a log in there or not... the champagne sounds killer...but I bought her a bottle of Riesling for tonight when she gets off work.
  7. So...tomorrow my girlfriend and I are going caching. She has become as fascinated with it as I have. It has also come that time where she is demanding a ring - for us to be engaged. We have talked about marriage, and I have asked her father permission, but I just haven't popped the question yet. We are talking about getting married in December of 09, so I set up a faux cache called "GS1209". this cache has the cords already saved...but the camo tape covered ring box will be with me until she is searching with the GPS and I can quickly put it in the spot before she sees. Once she finds the cache (called "Surprise" by goober) I'll get down on my knee...pop the question...then go back to caching! Anyone else done something similar?!
  8. Looks like http://www.offroute.com/product/view_produ...&fromfind=1 it will be out sometime in febrsuary and cost 509. Some let me know if this is good or cheaper anywhere else, I want to go ahead and put one on order.

  10. well, I have a Garmin GPSmap 60csx and I'm looking for either a new or used gps that does geocaching. I use this for both navigation and caching, but would like this one to stay a little nicer, and one I can take with me if it's a little nasty out. Any advice? prices...models and or links to emporiums threads where one is cheap. My hope was to find one for around 100, but don't know if it's possible, and would love a garmin, as the info can send straight from the site with ease.
