  1. SUCCESS!! :) Perhaps someone contacted her or she saw it here. Adirondack Deb contacted me and found the TB in the bottom of her pack. She thought she had placed it. She is going to retrieve it from the TB graveyard and move it on. She said that she never received the emails I sent through geocaching.com!! I thought I would leave this reply telling of atleast one successful recovery of a missing TB.

  3. Does anyone know anything about Adirondack Deb? She grabbed a TB of mine in Oct. 2003 and hasn't released it. Actually she hasn't logged onto geocaching.com since Dec. She hasn't answered email attempts to contact her. I would appreciate any info. Thanks GeoZeus

  4. I placed a travel bug TBC07E and it was out less a month before a cacher picked it up and said "will take escalade for a spin up in Newcomb and the High Peaks area as soon as possible." Well, that was on October 8, 2003. The individual, I personally refer to them in other terms, hasn't logged into the geocaching site since December 4th. They also haven't answered several attempts to contact by email. I finally sent the poor travel bug off to the grave yard. I hope that this cacher didn't end up in a similar place.

WHAT nature trail??? {:-) This is a thorny area to sneak thru, but we made it. Miss Addy Butterfly is gone, and someone logged in the cache log that they took her, but apparently haven't put it on here yet. Left a ninja turtle and took a '36 indian head nickel. Thanks, John for the fun.

If you are near Village Park by HFJohn & Brother Larry (waypoint GCDD5F) you might check to see who the cacher was that logged taking the travel bug. Then you could email that cacher and perhaps find out what happened. At least that is someplace to start.

  6. I downloaded the upgrade to 5.12 for my MeriGold from Magellans website and upgraded according to their directions. No problems. But, there is a file in the directory I made to unzip the files to called DEBUG.OUT after I did the upgrade. Anyone know what this file is or have a similar experience?

I can still get lost with my GPS, but I know where I am!

  9. I agree with Alethiometrists in that the TB's number should should be a "number." All of mine are 6 digit numbers. BTW Murex what is the name of the Travel Bug in question?

  10. It appears as if the TBs are logged in by a geocacher and then the next person to visit the site, whether it be the next day or next few days, observes the TB is no longer in the site. There doesn't seem the be log entries in the cache log book or on geocaching.com.

Actually I was being a little tongue in cheek about doing something to a TB before placing it in a cache. But there are quite a few caches in central NY that supposedly have TBs but the TBs are MIA. Check it out for yourself by entering the zipcode 13205 on the cache search page.

"My GPS is great I can still get lost, but at least I know where I am!"

  11. I don't know about the rest of the country but here in Central NY there appears to be a Travel Bug thief. A day or two after a travel bug is placed it suddenly disappears from the cache. If you check out the numerous travel bugs near the zip code 13205 you will see what I am describing.

Perhaps, someone should put out a travel bug laced with some deadly virus or one that is radio-active and then maybe someother cacher would come across this thief's body still clutching the stolen travel bug. I know this sounds very drastic! Does anyone else have a simpler solution?

  12. Or you could do what I just had to do. A TB I placed was picked up and traveled some 130 or so miles to western NY. A geocacher picked it up and put it in a new cache in Manitoba but never logged it. So it was listed as having only traveled 130 or so miles from the initial location in central NY to Manitoba. It was then picked up by another cacher whom I contacted and he was trying to figure out how to get it updated.

Since I had the "COPY" of the TB I entered that I had it and then placed it in the Manitoba cache, thereby updating to the correct mileage.

I then emailed the current holder and told him to go back and reclaim it. I don't know if it was the correct or most efficient method, but it worked.

  13. I placed a cache in Canada while on a visit on the 20th of August and it hasn't been approved as of today the 30th. It has a status of "HOLD" whatever that means. If it doesn't receive approval soon I will retrive it and take it back to the United States with me. It contains a Travel Bug that I purchased and I don't want to just leave it. My first cache placement was approved within 48 hours, as stated as the usual time on the placement page. I think that 10 days is pushing it. cache url: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=87685
