  1. Thats me ! (Whoops edited to say this should have been posted by Harrogate Hunters !) Its getting confusing having two forum titles !
  2. ********** HOG ROAST ********** ORDERS ARE NOW OPEN FOR PRE-BOOKING ! On Saturday night around 7pm the UK mega event committee will be providing a hog roast... !!! A local farmer will be bringing along one of his prize pigs for us all to eat ! This is not just a pork sandwich, you will be provided with a plate, utencils, plate of pork (plenty of), apple sauce, crackling, stuffing etc and a bread roll as a side dish ! There will be a selection of Salad bowls also provided In order to get the cost of £6 per head this has been heavily subsidised by the Mega Event Committee ! COSTS - Adults (12+) £6 per head - Children (5-12) £3.50 per head (nb they will get a sausage sandwich with salad not a hog roast portion - Small ones (under 5) - Free !!! At this stage we are not planning for people not wishing to eat pork for any reason, e.g. other dietry needs, but please contact us and this may be considered at a later stage. Please email the mega event committee or harrogate hunters using the profiles on the camping event cache page the following information should you wish to have a meal. -Full name -Caching name -number of adults -number of children -number of toddlers -email address for confirmation Orders will close mid July, as we need to know how many are coming. We would appreciate cheques to be forwarded to the address supplied in the confirmation email or you can pay cash on the night ! We appologise for not taking paypal but we dont want to incur charges. Link to Lets Go Mega Camping In Ripon cache page !
  3. I done mine 24 hours ago and haven't heard anything back. Sent my cheque off this morning. Dont worry you will ! I spoke to the owner about an hour ago and she said she has been un-indated with bookings !!! They have a huge pile they are working through, so hopefully they will catch up ! (dont forget its also half term and they are also trying to run a busy campsite !) Any problems contact me first ! Robin Harrogate Hunters UK Mega Event Committee
  4. Just to clarify Booking with the site IS required for all campers. Please use the on-line booking form on the camping site website and mention geocaching somewhere on the boxes You will receive an email back confirming the booking Only contact the camping site by telephone if a problem occurs A £20 deposit will be required if you are booking electric and staying on the main campsite. All other campers may pay in full at the time of arrival. The campsite have received a few £20 cheques from non electric payers and these will be kept against the final cost... its up to you if you want to pay a deposit in this case. In respect of the food element you will need to provide your own food for the length of your stay. The nearest supermarket is around 10 miles away but there are a couple of village shops nearby. There is a small campshop on site but be warned food is limited especially if everyone wants to stock up from it. There is also a pub on site which serves food, but again this will be busy !!! In respect of the BBQ on the Saturday night please just wait and see... we are currently organising a hog roast/Burger/Sausage BBQ which will be published later. We shall be collecting orders soon and cash will more than likely be collected on the night. Robin Harrogate Hunters Mega Event Committee
  5. Watch this space.... ! professional BBQer might have vanished to keep down the costs.... but in talks at present to get everyone fed on the saturday night ! Major aim.... good BBQ for as little cost as we can

  7. Seasider drove all the way from Blackpool to Harrogate because a new series of 5 caches appeared all in one go ! (Hope you are well John !) Whoops sorry used the wrong logon... this post should have been Harrogate Hunters !!!
  8. Just to confirm that there is no need to pay for parking in the various car parks around Harrogate on Mega Event Day Most of the street parking is free on Sundays and all the roads in the vacinity of the Hotel around the 200 acre stray are completely free ! Even with expected 500-650 cars turning up there should be no need for paying to park... although you may need to park within 10 minutes walk... but for geocaches who's hobby is to walk this should be not a problem !
  9. Thank you for your understanding on this one... Whereby the attendee coin is only for people who attend on the day we have to ensure that due to outside influences should someone have a valid reason for not turning up on the day (of which there are many) but were 100% going to attend that they do not suffer any further !!! As you quite rightly said we need pre-orders mainly so we can bring with us the required number of coins, we dont want to under-order... that would be disasterous, and likewise with limited funds we can not over order. It is our intention to review all cases as they appear, but at this moment in time, we have anounced our intention ! There have been a hugh number of hurdles to overcome organising this event for 1000 people and we hope that we can cater for 99% of peoples needs and we are trying to acheive 100% enjoyment for all ! After all its for your enjoyment and pleasure this is being held. "We need you !"
  10. Our thoughts are always here and we just hope and pray !
  11. I think I understand what you are asking.... The answer is "YES !" You could always let us know if you change your mind
  12. May I thank those who have offered support and help on the day, however we could do with more ! If anyone could spare a hour and man a stall/reception/task we would be most gratful ! Cheers Robin
  13. On behalf of the committee I would like to give the Uk an update on the event. Plans are progressing well and hopefully within the week our dedicated web site will be up and running. We shall let you know as soon as this happens On this web page you will be able to :- 1. Pre-register your caching team name with numbers of adults and children attending. For this you will be getting a welcome pack on the day. The welcome pack will include a large number of items including new caches to be released on the day, vouchers, information on whats happening and a large number of free items, cache box stickers, car decals, items for the kids etc etc etc No pre-register... no welcome pack ! 2. Purchase your pre-event geo-coins A specially minted coin for general pre-release is availiable to purchase. Either these can be posted out, or can be availiable for collection on the day 3. Purchase your attendee geo-coin A different type of coin is availible for purchase which is only collectable if you attend on the day 4. Links to other associated events Links to the associated camping event, to pre-register for the BBQ on the saturday night, and also links to the "They came from the north" event in which you will register you interest in the event and also if you require our specially laid on food "Haggis !" BUT The reason for todays announcement is two fold :- 1. We understand that there are various regions around the country that have their own meets. Do you have a region flag, or would you like a special area put to one side for your region to meet and to promote your region... If so, could you please contact me on my email address via my profile "Harrogate Hunters" or via the "UK Mega committee" profile 2. We also need volunteers for on the day to man and look after stalls, registration etc etc We are asking for volunteers to take on a one hour slot ! I know a great deal of names have already been sent to me in emails.... can you and any other people who would like to help us please now contact me, so I can allocate a slot !!! We are looking for slots from 10am to 4pm... if you have a preference please notify me Thank you for your continued support and we all look forward to see you on 3rd August ! Robin Harrogate Hunters
  14. Up to this morning I was really excited about Wherigo and even published my first Wherigo around the stray in Harrogate, England Then I found that anyone around the world can simply download the data straight into the emulator and sit at home in front of the computer and 'walk' around the course finding out all the locations and in my case the location of the physical geocache at the end of it !!! this person can now jump in the car, drive directly to the finish point and sign the log book So what is the point...... Unless this farsical problem is solved you have just wiped out 100's if not 1000's of geocachers who will just switch off to the Wherigo site and not use it... I for one will not be writing or publishing or even doing other Wherigo's until this stupid situation is solved. easy solution... only allow the emulator to run your own designed Wherigo..... Obviously downloading to the PDA does not need to be altered as until you arrive at the first location physically you can not proceed further.. Awaiting your response !!! An unhappy geocacher who has just seemed to waste the last four days of time ! Whoops - sorry I have posted this as the UK Mega Event committee not as myself I am Robin from Harrogate Hunters !!!
  15. I had this problem also.... I was putting files on to the PDA and they did not appear. Make sure you put the files into \my documents\Groundspeak\Wherigo\cassettee I think thats the correct sequence (sorry done from memory !) Anyway have a look for sub folders under my documents in standard memory (not card) and there is a file there !!!
  16. I hope that this event is a further attraction to the cachers of the UK and we hope that you will enjoy the entertainment that we are planning to offer at this and the other events and activities planned around the first weekend in August. "WE NEED YOU !" As mentioned on the cache page, please indicate numbers and food requirements, as I dont want to be in the situation that people wish to eat and have to wait hours to get served. A menu and pre-booking facility will be shortly availiable for both this event and the Mega event shortly on release of our main Mega event web site. May I thank the UK and the rest of the world (e.g. Texas) for your support on behalf of the committee Robin (Harrogate Hunters)
  17. If you dont sell them bring them to the mega in August.... they will def go that day !!
  18. We have asked people to specify on the cache page how long and when they will be staying.... If you keep an eye on there, you should get a good idea ! Robin (Harrogate hunters)
  19. Latest news.... camping event now "on-line" See separate thread....
  20. "We need you !" In the next exciting installment of the Mega event in August 2008 I on behalf of the committee are pround to announce the venue of the camping event for those who who wish to stay in delightful Harrogate for more than a night !! link to event page Looking forward to seeing you all there ! Robin (Harrogate Hunters)
  21. I have contacted the cacher in question. Can I please ask that no more posts are made on this subject either on the cache page or here in the forums until and if I get a reply. I am assuming at present that it is a mistake Thanks for your understanding Robin (Harrogate Hunters)
  22. Please ask them to contact me direct initailly through my email address robin@harrogatehunters.org I will then contact them and speak to them on the phone. Robin
  23. I can confirm that two wheels or four, if you are not bothered about secure parking in the above carparks (some of which are manned 24 hours a day with people and security cameras) there is plenty of off street parking around the Hotel and Stray area (free of charge) For those staying at the hotel there is obviously free parking at the hotel
  24. Any problems or queries with bookings at the Cedar court ask for the Manager.... his name is Simon. He is also the chairman of the local hotelliers and has said that if his hotel is not suitable or full, he will do a deal for geocachers with other local hotels that he would recommend Obviously mention geocaching event to him You will have no problem getting a room to suit in Harrogate, there is no major conference in town that weekend and Harrogate has so many varied types of accommodation its untrue ! Robin (Harrogate Hunters)
