Locationless caches, categorized
Rubeeslpr replied to BeachBuddies's topic in General geocaching topics
Thanks so much for all you did to provide us with this extensive list. I know we will be out there soon trying toscore some of these! -
Rubee is a retired kindergarten teacher who works now, as a travel agent. Mr. Rubee is a senior software engineer. We cache mostly on weekends, and when on vacations. Occasionally we will do a quick cache after work.

I am interested in having some coins minted with our sig info on them. Please Please someone tell me how to go about it. Thsnks in advance.

I roll them up small, and wrap them with an elastic band. (I'd use film canisters, but I gave up film years ago!). Any Walgreens or WalMart will give you hundreds of empty film canisters just for the asking.

Question: How does a person go about having a geocoin designed and made? We sure would like to have some made with our Ruby Slipper Sig icon on them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've lost a friend and we've lost a fellow geocacher.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. -
Thanks for the kudos, but it was an idea I found myself on this board a while back. I printed up address labels with the geocaching.com logo, and added "use this bag to trash out. Then replace the bag, and place this container into another cache you visit,"
-
We also use plastic grocery bags. Space permitting, we also leave an extra in a film cannister in the cache with instructions to CITO.
-
We leave our "signature item"...a die cut Ruby Slipper magnet in each cache we find. Also leave a Ruby Slipper signature card. If the cache is a bit low on trade items, we will try to restock it with items other than McToys. Your idea of a sig item sounds great.
-
If you don't have a signature item, I am sure a sig card would be fine!

Got a few emails today, and have already sent my sig items out. Any other traders out there?

SCREEN NAME IS MORE THAN AN ALIAS
Rubeeslpr replied to sept1c_tank's topic in General geocaching topics
Most likely you can figure out what my very very very favorite movie is! I have been in love with it since I was a child. This led to my screen name, and the trade items I leave in caches. Sig item is a cool Ruby Slipper magnet. -
Is there a way to mark topics in a thread already read, so when I come back to it, none of the little pages in the left margin are yellow? (I am assuming yellow pages mean there are things I have not read) Sometimes a topic is of no interest to me and I just skip it....and would like to mark it read without going to it.

We are relatively new to this sport. However we have found several signature cards in caches. The two questions I have are....Is it OK to take a signature card in a trade, or is it meant to be left for the cache owner? And....if I want to leave a card in the cache is it OK to leave more than one, or should I leave only one? Thanks for helping this newbie.

I beg to differ with you........but I AM a woman, and the last thing that would appeal to me is a "kitchen item like potholder and towel!" I think those days are far behind many of us. We have some interests beyond the kitchen, believe it or not. Rubeeslpr

Thanks for explaining how to get the image on the posting. I had no idea how to do it! rubeeslpr

Thanks for the great idea of the film canisters with the "trash out" bag inside. I went to the local Walgreens Pharmacy today and asked if they had any to give away and they gave me a cardboard box full of film containers! I made some labels on my computer (used Word) and covered the labels on the film canisters with clear tape. Will put two in each cache we discover from now on. I used the wording from the ones I found here on this site. Thank you. Rubeeslpr@aol.com

Your post seems a little extreme. Who elected YOU king of the geocachers? Lighten up.
