  1. Hey Hogarth, Whether High or Low German, your comments were between wrong and outright hilarious on all counts, but don't sweat about it, your German is probably good enough for chatting with locals and for understanding what's going on around you - still much better than that of the average American. At least you're trying Edited to add: next time before commenting about things you don't understand, perhaps you should doublecheck with Deiner gescheiteren Hälfte - that's feminine singular dativ for you
  2. I can confirm that GeoGerard was showing off in German too, but at least his Dutch version is correct, and can be used. KGBHUI's German version is not bad, albeit a bit unidiomatic. I'd change it as follows: "Vielen Dank für das Mitnehmen meines Travelbugs. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Du ihn nach Irland bringen könntest, oder zumindest ein Stück weit in jene Richtung. Vielen Dank, Dennisfauchez" For my own credentials, check here to see what I do for a living. Shunra
  3. How is that fun? Perhaps, if you'd make it a series of standalone caches which need to be found to get to a final, someone might be challenged to try it, over time.
  4. Well according to the page the island was posted. I'd be annoyed too if I went through all that trouble to reach a cache only to find its on private property and was confronted by the owners. He was never confronted by the owners on that hike - the island is uninhabited. When the cache owner found out that it was private property indeed, he archived it after all, but that doesn't mean that the ranting person was confronted with signs, let alone with a property owner. There were no signs at all when I was there before that person, nor where there any signs when I went there again a few months later. The second time I circumnavigated almist the entire island by kayak so I'm quite sure. The ranting person who claimed it was posted never made it nearly as close as I did in my first attempt. He arrived from a rather dangerous direction which must have made getting close quite impossible. Sure, it must have been very frustrating, but that's no reason to make up things. The notion that the cache was gone was just another nasty and unfounded comment. He only has himself to blame for his ineptness.
  5. I get logged out only when I log in from another computer. When I used ony one computer, I used to stay logged in for weeks.
  6. Some people don't get the point about Geocaching either.
  7. One of my favorite caches, Hike to Ika Island, has a terrain rating of 5. It was attempted by someone who had 0 finds at the time (and has found 0 caches since), but with a huge attitude. He wrote: He blamed the cache owner for his own ineptness, including for illegal parking, claimed that the cache was gone (it wasn't). Sheer gratuitous nastiness.
  8. What's so lame about that - yes it was a joke (note the three smilies in the post). Growing up in Dallas, NC (pop ~3000) I've spent my whole life explaining to people as soon as I say I'm from "Dallas" that I mean NC and not Texas. I apologize to all of the Texans that I have offended my inserting my Dallas, NC cache into this topic. Surely if you could get the Texas area into another regional forum, immature antics like this would never happen again. E I, for one, fell for the joke, and I thought it was funny. If I'll ever get to Dallas, NC, I'll make sure not to skip it
  9. What's the range of that one through air? and through snow? Send us a report after testing it out
  10. Good luck with that. Thiers nothing scenic about Dallas unless you go north around the citys i listed like around 380 or farther South from Dallas like 9 Key suggested. Thiers PLENTY of scenic spots north of Dallas. If your looking at a map, thats not going to do you justice of the area. Try "Greenbelt Almost" that should be a nice scenic challenge for you. It just all depend on what you mean about Wilderness. Despite what you might have heard about Dallas its not some Open area with rolling hills that are remotely close to downtown. Your going to have to go to the outlying areas of the city like i listed prior. Now if you were to go North up 35 around their are some open areas, but nothing remotely close to Dallas if your trying to get away form the city. Your looking at hour drive time depending on where your stay regardless. Texan78, Roland and 9K - thank you all for your suggestions. If the trip materializes, I'll do 9Key's suggestions in the free afternoons, and if I get a whole day off, I'll drive North or Northeast to wilder country. Thanks for all your suggestions!
  11. Did you find it? Nope, now it's an automatic - no clutch! Ah. then that clutch should be archived.
  12. Can you tell me what's the scenic part? I see suburbs there, no big parks, no big rivers.. I mean: I'd rather spend a whole day in the wilderness to find one remote cache in a scenic location, then doing a couple of dozen suburban caches. I'm looking for beautiful open areas. Is there something like that within driving distance from Dallas?
  13. I might have some time available for caching around Dallas in January. I won't mind throwing in a few urbans, but what I'd really like is to get away from urban sprawl and see something unique. Are there particular areas within comfortable driving distance that I may want to focus on? Thanks! Shunra from WA
  14. I'm Shunra. I too log all my DNFs, since I had my first on my 7th day of caching. Since then, I see DNFs as a spiritual thing. Every now and then, my brain and my GPS insist on taking some time-out.
  15. Exactly. We can all sit and joke about Frito Pies, but the cache was found, and an entirely unoffensive Find log was - and is still - deleted.
  16. This doesn't work here, Bugel, because it is a puzzle cache. Posting the coords would really make her mad if she doesn't like what he already posted. Oh. Yeah, I guess you're right
  17. A disagreement about coordinates is not a spoiler. You're not giving anything away that wasn't meant to be given away in the first place, you're merely pointing out what you think is a mistake. Saying that the cache is 50 feet East of the coordinates prevents the cache owner from going back, checking and changing her coordinates, if she wanted to. The elegant and common way to deal with this is to post your own coordinates. The cache owner may then keep her own, adopt yours, average, or go back and check, and every future cacher may make up their own mind. I often find that posted coordinates are off. However, if I don't bother to take my own reading of the place, I don't mention it.
  18. I think I really like this place. Nobody has mentioned "facilities", though. Is it suitable for a family-style campout? BTW, following K7's link I went to the cache page, and clicked on geocaching.com maps. the cache isn't shown. Other caches in the area are...
  19. That is an excellent suggestion. After thinking it over, I think that for what ever reason Real Deal had for archiving the cache should be honored. Ray can honor him by putting in a new cache in the same place. Dick, W7WT Great idea. No reason to bother the mods, let alone the forums. Much embarassing ado about nothing.
  20. Did they allow you to publish their e-mail addresses? You seem to be talking on their behalf, but I think you're utterly embarassing them. I note their lack of endorsement of your request. Anyway, I don't see the problem. A cache can be unarchived at the owner's request. This is no longer possible, but adoption by you should just be a technicality. Why bother, however, if you can just as easily hide a cache at the same spot, copy the cache page, and resubmit, as suggested by Runhills? I doubt Real Deal would appreciate the hullaballoo and the negative tone.
  21. Sounds like a great location to me!
  22. Heh... and I liked it b/c it's close to some fabulous hikes! At the 2004 campout, we had about a dozen kids of elementary school age. I like those hikes too, but I don't think they would.
  23. It's on my route to almost everywhere. However, this might be an issue for the 2007 campout, not for the 2005 one.
  24. If I got to State Manchester Park, and then click on Manchester SP under the map, it still brings me to Lake Easton I guess someone really wants us to go there.
