  1. it all depends on the difficulty. i found one monday that took 6 hours to do all the legs of a multi. when we were on the final part we were literally standing within 20 feet of the cache and it still took 30 minutes to find it.
  2. What can I say your walking sticks are great. If I don't win one I'me going to order one. Just my opinion. I hope I win one LOL. Quills
  3. When I get within about 30 feet or so I set the GPS down and just start looking for it. I found one on Monday that was a very clever hide for the last leg of a multi. The GPS said 20 feet and was right but I wouldn't have found it if I was looking at the GPS. I hope this helps.
  4. congrats on your finds. also welcome to the addiction. before you know it you'll be saying that would make a great cache container.
  5. The current bid is $395. What do you think? the seller looks ok no complaints that I can see.
  6. they mean difficulty and terrain. the more stars the harder they will be to find
  7. Thanks for all the replies. This is exactly what I was looking for. I think I'm going to order a 60cs.
  8. the code is the letter above eqauls the letter below and vice versa. confused? just remember a=n and the rest will fall into place.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I'm really leaning toward one of these. I was hesitant because of the posts I saw about the problems with them. I work with electronics and I know that there are usually growing pains with new products. I was just concerned it might be more than a firmware issue.
  10. Thanks for the reply. Have you found many caches with it? How do you like the geocaching mode?
  11. In this part of Pa we're blessed, or is it cursed with some very creative hiders. We range from well hidden micros that will torment you for days, to the very well thought out multi that has you searching and searching for the final cache. We do have our share of hidden under a log type caches but lately the hiders have been trying to make them more and more challenging.
  12. I'm thinking about getting a new gps and I'm leaning towards either a 60c or 60cs. My question is this I read about the troubles some people are having with these units. I'm intersted to hear from some people who have them what they think good bad or otherwise. I use a Legend now but would like to upgrade but I'm not sure when I read about the problems people are having. I was mostly wondering if it would be better to wait a few months until the bugs get worked out. Thanks for any help.
  13. Is the Venture still under warranty? You might want to contact Garmin. They were great when I had to send my Legend in for repair.
  14. I have to say I use a Legend. Great gps. Very user friendly. I find myself using it all the time. I have had no problems in dense tree cover and have used it to mark good spots for fishing when I took it on my boat last summer. Just my opinion but I hope it helps you out.
  15. that's what i'm struggling with the difficulty whether a 3 or 5 the terrain is easy but the cache itself is very tricky.
  16. I have an idea for a cache. I don't want to give everything away in the forums but I'm not sure how to rate it some might find it very easy for others it would be very frustrating. If you e-mail me I'll give you details. I just don't want local cachers to read it here. Then you can let me know what you think. You're more than welcome to use the idea in your area. Thanks for any replies.
  17. Another use for these film canisters is as a holster for the matchstick containers. You can notch the bottom of the conatainer and use a zip tie to hole it to a tree branch and the matchstick container fits like a glove inside it. You'd be surprised how well this blends in with some camo.
  18. we have 2 local cachers over 600 and 1 approaching 1,000. I'm almost at 60 myself hoping to hit 100 before 1 year
  19. Nope not any good at all LOL. Seriously the Vista is very nice and you will be able to find lots of caches with it.
  20. I'm working on a couple for some local parks. One will resemble the yellow parking barriers( the ones that have chains stretched between them). The other one is meant to look like a gaspipe coming out of the ground. I don't know if you have them where you're at but we have them everywhere here. I'll e-mail a picture if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
  21. I was wondering the same thing when I bought my GPS. The Legend or the Vista. I decided on the legend and haven't regretted it one bit. I've used it to find almost 60 caches plus it goes with me almost everywhere I go. I hope this helps with your choice.
  22. I use the Garmin windshield mount for my Legend. It works great and I can pick up the sattelites in my Jeep no problem. I hope this helps.
  23. Looks like a cool cache. I would look for it if it was near me.
  24. Rubberhead when I sent my Legend into Garmin via USPS i was able to track it. I requested a receipt notification and it gave me a number I could track on the USPS website. It even e-mailed me when it was signed for at Garmin.
