[Garmin eTrex Legend Start-Up Problems]

Question:

 

Has anyone ever tried using a serial to USB adapter cable? If so, did you encounter any issues? Think of going this direction as it is cheaper alternative than buying new Garmin specific cable.

That's how I hook up to my laptop--found an adapter on TigerDirect and it works like a charm.

 

I have a serial to USB adapter but can not get anything to transfer. Is there a driver I need for the cable?

I saw the $399.00 price in their printed ad, but it did not say if it was the deluxe or not. I check their website www.bestbuy.com and it said it is the deluxe package. And better yet online it is $379.00 with free shipping.
