  1. I have no inside knowledge of the forum software, but maybe the “point” is generated by the “report this post”? I’ve reported a few posts that violated the commercial solicitation forum guidelines, and the lack of explanation in your notification suggests it is semi automated in nature, merely requiring a review by one of the mods.
  2. Keystone has some helpful links in his signature line that might be worth you while to read through to answer your questions. Although I do wish there was a line in the Forum Guidelines that would address the use of the CAP LOCK key. Regarding the removed thread, as mentioned above, it appears the Original Poster of the thread deleted it via a somewhat new feature that allows the OP of a thread to remove the entire discussion with a click of a button. This feature was implemented in accordance with the way HQ interprets the GDPR (sometimes referred to as "the right to be forgotten").
  3. I'm happy with the official app. It does an adequate job for the way I cache.
  4. Relatively common puzzle cache concept in my area.
  5. From the Help Center article that L0ne.R provided: The best way to do this is to submit a Listing page before you place your cache. Make sure you make it clear on the Listing page that the Listing is for a coordinate check. Most people will put the words, "coordinate check" in the Title, Description and Note. The alternative is to find all nearby Puzzles, Multi's, etc, in the area to find out where the Finals are. This can be a very arduous project depending on your area and your skill level.
  6. An Earthcache might be an option, but as mentioned earlier, the location visit must be relatively recent.
  7. Been discussed many times with similar entrenched outcomes. Disregarding as suggested.
  8. Yes, although the Review process might be delayed if physical placements were in the mix of things. For an interstate or international Multi, multiple Reviewers might be involved in checking locations, and depending on their availability, it might delay the Publication a bit. The other consideration is maintenance. If the Stages are hundreds of miles apart, it may require a bit more persuasion to convince the Reviewer that adequate maintenance will be done by yourself or a surrogate. Virtual locations, obviously will, by and large, require less maintenance than a physical container.
  9. It was hidden under a large manzanita that had some slight burn scars, but still living. The location is on a peak that also is home to an old Navigational Aid tower, Air Force Tracking Station (now decommissioned) for Vandenburg Air Force Base Launch Range, and buildings used by the Ventana Wilderness Society Condor Facility (endangered species release site). Some heroic efforts were spent saving the top of the hill, and above the access road that almost circles the top, not a tree was lost. I think the VWS may have lost one out building (the condors had been evacuated early on). To say the heat was intense would be an understatement.
  10. The outside might survive, but the contents would be reduced to ash. I had that experience with an ammo can that was in the path of a forest fire a few years back. Other than the rubber gasket around the top, the outside was in reasonably good shape. Opening it up....
  11. Looks as though your proposed coordinates are on private land. Probably OK for the virtual coordinates for a Puzzle, but not sure how you could work that into a multi without permission. A pro tip I stumbled on for finding palindrome coordinates is to looks for confluence points. You can play around with lots of numbers when you have trailing zeros to replace. Looks like the nearest confluence point to your proposed location was Archived due to it being on Tribal Lands without permission: https://coord.info/GC5749 Just playing around with some numbers, using that confluence point as a start, I came up with a set of coordinates that appears to have public access along Interstate 15, 28 miles South of Pocatello (N 42° 30.121 W 112° 10.324 ).
  12. Nowhere in the Help Center article is the word "quality" talked about. I think LOne.R has it essentially correct. The purpose is to clear Listing pages owned by people that have been absent for 5 years or more. That appears to be the only metric used for this particular project, with a few exceptions for date of placement, Listing pages that showed trackables, and some vague "special circumstances" (...wondering what that means?). I'm not sure why you brought the word "quality" into the conversation, since I'm not sure that's an achievable goal from a keyboard and monitor. I think that something that has to be worked out at the local level.
  13. You missed a couple of steps in this process: NM for full or missing logsheet Subsequent Finder adds or replaces logsheet NM for cracked or unusable container Subsequent Finder places a throwdown that bears little resemblance to the original NM for missing throwdown Subsequent Finder logs a Find for piece of velcro/zip tie/magnet NA logged by someone that remembers how the game used to be played YMMV
  14. As mentioned earlier in the thread, there is some discussion of putting together a statewide CITO of some sort, to deal with the absent cache owners trash. Perhaps you can get involved locally to coordinate with the state organization that might sponsor this initiative.
  15. The Listing you linked to is merely Disabled, though it appears on its way to being Archived in the not too distant future. Your time might be better spent trying to round up the cache owner and seeing if they would be willing to Adopt it over to you or someone in the Community that lives nearby. I don't think that HQ is going to veer from the current trajectory on this iteration of the project.
  16. I've heard that as well. Anything is possible with an active Cache Owner.
  17. After entering the coordinates, and hitting the Confirm Coordinates, I was able to get the Continue button to light up. Are you entering a valid coordinate format?
  18. While you may feel technically correct in your assumption, and I’m fairly confident that HQ would support your interpretation, like kunarion suggests, I would fully expect the cache to get vandalized in your current design. You’ll have to weigh the benefits of your righteous cause against the amount of time required to put together a cache of this sort and the amount of effort to fix your cache each time it gets broken.
  19. I'm not fond of forum topic titles that state a conclusion before the facts are discussed.
  20. Sounds like you might need to find some better informed friends who take a bit more time researching the "why's" before bolting to social media to feed their angst. My recollection of the first ALR of this nature was a game promoted by a geocoin mfg. As part of the bingo style requirements to earn the coin, you had to place a cache and get it Published. The next iteration came with the so called "Curse of the FTF.." series, which also lead to a devolution of crappy cache containers in questionable locations. This eventually led to the migration to the Challenge Listings pre moratorium days, which a handful of Challenge CO's made it a requirement to have a Published Listing on your Profile to qualify. None of these attempts improved the game in the slightest. Like one of our old timer's used to say, "if you hide it, they will come". The best way to promote new hides in an area is to find an area that people like to return and visit. If you place one cache in an interesting and unique location, chances are, other people will place some caches nearby without provocation.
  21. Related thread that you are already participating in: Duplicate threads are discouraged, particularly since the original thread is in the correct sub forum where the Developers generally hang out.
  22. I believe the exclamation point on the map that you are seeing, indicates that your logs are in draft form.
