  1. GPSr accuracy figures generally need to be taken with several grains of salt unless measurements have been repeatedly taken at recorded benchmarks. If a GPSr is saying it's got an accuracy of 6 ft., it's reasonable to assume it's more accurate than when it's giving a reading of 20 ft., but it's not necessarily more accurate than another GPSr giving an accuracy of 10 ft. I observed this when I took a 60csx and an OR300 on a walk together. The 60CSX constantly showed an accuracy of about 15 ft. The OR showed an accuracy of around 10 ft. Comparing tracks afterward there was no significant difference. The 60CSX tracked the OR, but didn't wander around it.
  2. All basemaps I have seen are useless without detail maps. They are only needed when you need to zoom out beyond the range of your detail maps. Assuming you are in Denmark, look at http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ , http://sites.google.com/site/openfietsmap/ , and http://www.opencyclemap.org/http://www.opencyclemap.org/ . If you are in the US, I'd suggest http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php instead of the last two.
  3. Some of us like it that way , but to turn on shaded relief Setup>Map>Advanced Map Setup>Shaded Relief. Also in the Advanced Map Setup Menu take a look at Text Size. Buried there is a "Landcover" setting that will turn Landcover on or off and set the size it renders at.
  4. Apparently, the trash is stored on the device with a Mac. When I delete a file from a memory card on a PC I get a message "Are you sure you want to PERMANENTLY delete this file?" My hard drive's trash may fill up, but I'm not likely to fill up a device with removable memory. When the OP says "But I can do all this on a pc. My computers a mac." maybe he meant it "works fine" but he wasn't that specific. Didn't say how long ago he could do it for instance. Sounded to me like it was a device problem (trashcan) or maybe a BaseCamp problem. That's why I linked him to Garmin's BC for Mac forum.
  5. Don't own a Mac, but if you can do it on a PC it's a Mac problem. Have you emptied your trash? Seems like that's a common problem with Mac owners. If that doesn't work, try here.
  6. The 62s does, I think they are pretty similar. Menu>Menu>Setup>Heading>Go to Line>Course
  7. Suggest you look at Garmin's "On The Trail" models of handhelds, also Magellan and decide on a few models that interest you, are in your price range, etc. Then you can ask a question that may get more responses.
  8. Translation? From Google Translate: I have a TB made and notified [listed as owner in possession. Together with a TB that I had seized and also in my possession, I have these 2 dropped. The packed TB I could log out when dropped, but not my own TB. Is there a solution?. Might help Pedro if you arranged for a translation yourself, unless there are some Dutch speakers here.
  9. When you are disconnected go to the Setup>System and set USB mode to Garmin (not Mass Storage). When you connect to the USB you will be prompted to go into mass storage or not.
  10. Good point, I never trust that accuracy readout except in as far as it's relative to other readings on the same device.
  11. But 2Bdetermined is saying they are getting side by side accuracy differences. I assume the CO also has a high sensitivity receiver, so is the difference in the software?
  12. Good idea Themoens. Assume you've seen this (not cheap though.) They'll be using these next year on the carrier pigeon edition of "Breaking Bad".
  13. Accuracy shouldn't improve much. Most folks upgrade because of added features like paperless caching or raster map support.
  14. First you need to upload your screenshots to an image hosting site. Then you click on the little photo button on the GPS and Technology reply window and paste the link from the hosting site. When you get back to your PC try to "show hidden files". Sounds like something invisible could be lurking on your Etrex.
  15. Open what map, on what device?
  16. A GPS60 is a pretty old unit. Probably needs MapSource. BaseCamp may not recognize it.
  17. If it's a PC version of the map it needs to be converted. Garmin MapConverter (a PC app) will do it, but your maps need to be installed on a PC to start the process. Try maximizing the detail level to see the roads. Setup>Map>Advanced Map Setup> Detail
  18. Granny, too bad you aren't using a Mac, cause that trash can business would explain everything. Did you or anyone near and dear to you EVER use a Mac to load geocaches? You describe seeing the pie chart, but what do you see when you look in the Garmin folder? No Bob's Tupperware Cache.gpx?
  19. Not likely. What you are talking about is creating a "Garmin Custom Map". If you follow the link you'll see that they have some significant limitations and you need to use GE to create them. AFAIK you can use GE to align imagery, but I doubt that GE will let you copy its imagery to align. Also you're probably violating GE's terms of service, and guys that smart are probably able to keep you from doing that.
  20. You should probably look at Garmin's list. Keep in mind that you CAN'T add maps to an Etrex 10 and the basemap on the Etrex 10 is pretty limited. Lots of free and pay maps available that might help you in your geocacheing.
  21. I averaged 5 waypoints this afternoon with Beta 2.71. Took between 6 and 8 minutes per waypoint to get to 100% confident. Has anybody else noticed this?
  22. If you haven't been here you should set up some comparisons. The 62 doesn't have a memory card slot. If you buy a "T" make sure that you can get UK maps. Between TalkyToaster, OSM and City Navigator you probably don't need built in maps. The "T" maps for the US are 100k (contours looks sandblasted, roads aren't routable and aren't well aligned). The 62 series will support both vector like you use now and raster maps and Birdseye raster imagery. (Bitmapped imagery georeferenced to work like Google Earth). FYI, you probably won't be able to use Google Earth as a source for raster imagery. The 62s will take up to a 32 GB card of which 4GB will be used for vector maps and the balance for raster imagery. BaseCamp is better than MapSource for Garmins that support raster maps. They've got a different internal file structure. Personally, I wish BaseCamp worked more like MapSource. I haven't used the Birdseye, but I find the raster imagery really handy. I've got raster geological and archaeological maps on my 62s. Nice to know when I'm approaching a thrust fault. One problem, only one "Garmin Custom Map"(raster) that you create yourself can be shown at a time and you can't turn multiple "custom" raster maps on and off. Therefore, since I have an archaeological map and a geological map of the same area I need to change the extension of the map I don't want to see from .KMZ to .KMX so it doesn't overlay the other raster. This isn't a problem if your custom maps don't overlap. Not a cacher, so somebody else will have to answer those.
  23. Whenever I do that in Windows, it overwrites the original mapset. Guess MapManager and Finder were Mac clues. AS I read the OP Belgium is still installed, but France says it's installed. Do OSM installers work differently on a Mac? JP&CDB might be a good idea to also post your question here. Also, not sure what you mean by topocard. MicroSD card? Topo map? I didn't think garmin.openstreetmap.nl offered topos although opencyclemap and openfietsmap do.
  24. Granny, could you post a screenshot or two? You've got a few puzzled fans.
