2 weeks ago, we were ftf'ing a cache on top of a mountain. it was super steep, and lots of scree at the top. found one guys tracks, where he slalomed the scree, so me and 1 of the other guys decided to run down it. that was fun. went to to try it again further down the mountain, so my hubby could video us. came around a corner too fast, boot hit a rock ledge and ankle went one one, i went the other. instant stop to things, while the two guys rushed over to check things out. (yes my hubby got it all on video...lol) my ankle is swelling, so hubby takes his hydration pack and uses it as a temporary ice pack, then uses his belt as a splint. 400m from the car, and there is no way the boys are going to be able to carry me, as the mountain is still way too steep. so i slid on my but down teh scree trails, then when it got a little gentler, hubby piggybacked me, then i baby stepped using poles as crutches the rest of the way.
drove to the nearby store to buy ice, dropped the other guy back at camp, and we drove the hour back to town to the hospital. badly sprained ankle, was on crutches all last week, and now im slowly hobbling around. ankle still swollen, foot is black and blue.
oh..and like a true cacher, i was out caching the next day. crutches and all.
log and pics can be found here: GC17MGH Vision Quest

i have one of those mini metal ones here at home. it gives people absolute fits looking for it.
"searched everywhere. no ammo can in sight. must have been muggled"
its right across from our house, so after every dnf log, we go out, check on it, and post on the cache page, that yes indeed it is still there. its a great cache.

we have done everything from png's to long hikes up mountains. its why we love caching for where it will take us to next. we have discovered a lot of cool features like waterfalls and gorgeous hiking trails that make you fell like your in the mountains right here in our town that we would never have known were here were it not for caching.
our 1000th and 1500th we are planning on doing huge hikes up difficult mountains. but now our 1000th is going to be something easier to walk to, but higher on the difficulty as one member of the party we will be celebrating our 1000th together with is 7 months pregnant.
but i can truly understand your point johnnyvegas about most people caught in the numbers game not knowing what they are missing, for these type its all about the numbers, and sadly, the higher terrain/difficulty caches are completely off their list, never to be done because they'd rather find 50 lpc's, than hike an hour or 2 to find a cache in a gorgeous spot.

while i do realize lots of you started out in the beginning, when there we not nearly as many caches nearby, its still cool to hear how many one did when they first started.
up here in red deer, which is in central alberta, caches used to go unfound for days. people from the bigger cities, edmonton and calgary would drive the 1 1/2hrs to come ftf caches. nowadays, we have plenty of opportunities to drive where ever we want and pick up a hundred or so in a trip. its very cool to see how the game has become popular.

hey all
as our first year of caching approaches, our goal is set to be over 1500. we're currently at 900 and have until june 23rd to make our goal.
just wondering how many others have found in their 1st year?

thank you all for the kind words (even though i know most of you were thinking very unkind things upon hearing of the coin on ebay) and a HUGE thank you to the geocoin fairy for providing your support in a very unconventional way when i need it the most.
for those wondering i have updated my for sale list on the forums here, and will be adding a few others to ebay in the coming days.

Unactivated TB tags (or geocoins) would most likely be quite welcome prizes (and inexpensive to ship).
Gift certificates to shop.Groundspeak.com, if they exist, would also be good.
edit: they do exist
Groundspeak gift certificates would be great. too bad we live in Canada.
but thank you for the other ideas. im sure we'll be using some as prizes.

i just wanted to drop a quick note in here now that i found this thread.
im the person selling the coin on ebay *ducks head to prepare for assault*
i have good reason though. first of all i didnt even know this was such a special coin when i picked it up off a raffle table (well actually it was the last thing left on the table...which i now find hard to believe knowing what a cool coin it was) second i am selling off almost my entire coin collection to pay off some huge bills (it was either coin collection, or end up out on the street...not a hard decision there. ) so ive been selling my collection off on here and on ebay to get the money to help out.
im sorry to all ive hurt by selling this coin, but im not doing it with malicious intent (and like i said until i pooped in here i didnt even know how special it was) and it does pain me to sell off my collection, but one does have to be able to afford to live. (life sucks when it gets in the way of your hobbies)

hi all.
we are currently having a year long tb race. the goal was to get to canad's 1st geocache, but the winner would be determined by points earned by caches, cachers, miles, pics, ect.
the race is over in august, and we have no idea what to give out as prizes. does anyone have any suggestions, or donations? any help would be greatly appreciated.

awhile ago someone posted n here a cache in the nevada desert that was a giant mousetrap. now for the life of me i cant find that post back. we're interested in doing something like that up here, and would like the link to the actual cache. if anyone can provide that for me it'd be great. thanks in advance.

hey all
im selling off a bunch of my collection due to some really unexpected really high bills. my question is what would you guys expect to pay for activated coins? somewhere between $5.00 for the everyday ones, and $10-20 for the really rare ones? just would like to know what a fair price is. thanks so much
