  1. It looks like one of the attributes for the German Geocoin is "being a cache". As of today in my stats the coin has the (*) mark for caches found or hidden... Olaf
  2. So much for things being bigger in Texas! German Geocoin: 50mm no further comment, I leave that to you...
  3. I took this My TB Carrier Case over the Atlantic several times - always carry-on so that I get a chance to take some pictures. Of course, I don't take any TBs that look like a weapon... The last time I had a 2 inch brass propeller and they looked at it to see how sharp the edges were, but no problem I could take it on board. If anybody asks I say this is a "toy exchange program my daughter participates in". Did this several times, so far noever had a problem. Olaf
  4. It worked! The TB laying around in Moscow without a cache was retrieved and now moves on to Finland.
  5. As part of a business trip I will be in San Francisco on Sunday, March 13th. I will bring my TB Carrier with possibly some 10 or more TBs... As there is one other thing I would like to do while in SF I am wondering if I can combine them: How about a "SF TB sailing event"? Assuming we can charter a yacht at a reasonable price (whatever that means, but I would assume some $30 per adult), how many Cachers would join (and pay their share)? A sailing cruise of 3-4 hours in the San Francisco bay on Sunday, March 13th, taking out TBs for a tour - and of course exchanging them... Of course, any further recommendations, suggestions, help from the "locals" are more than welcome. Olaf aka TravelingViking
  6. I think that the goal of a TB has the highest priority in comparison to any rules that a local cache or TB hotel might have. HOWEVER, to keep everybody happy (also the poor TB collector visiting the cache just a few minutes after you) I proceed as follows: As a TB addict I have 5 to 10 TBs in my posession at all times (and I seldomly keep any longer than 2 weeks). If I come to a TB hotel with many TBs in them, I just swap'em. TBs and their owners are happy about the movement. Cache owner is happy that his cache still has lots of TBs. Next cacher to find the cache is happy that there are still lots of TBs. I am happy to collect more TBmiles. I wonder if I get any perks once I hit the million TBmiles... Olaf
  7. I just returned from a short business trip to Moscow, Russia. I only had a few hours off and no cache was nearby. So I literally dropped a TB in the "wildness" of a Moscow park. In case any cacher is going there soon, you can pick it up at N55 42.636, E037 32.499 - at the base of a tree under leaves and snow... Released in Russia Olaf aka TravelingViking

  9. Hi Jeremy et. all, X-Mas is coming up, so I thought its a good time to "request a present"... Being a travel bug addict that is trying to take good care of TBs I find it hard to keep track of the TBs exchanged at an event. As I already was at an event where a TB got lost, I now try to manually keep track of the TBs that I bring to an event so that I know who took a TB that I brought. To help managing the process of exchanging TBs at an event, an extended inventory list would be very nice! In my mind this inventory list would look a lot like the TB history list, but would have different columns: TB Name, Thumbnail of picture, TB goal (this is very handy for handling TBs without goal tags), name of cacher bringing it to the event, name of cacher taking it from the event (empty until after the event, at event can be used to hand-write name of cacher taking the TB) Olaf
  10. Thanks for following up on the "unpaid bill missunderstanding"! I am now back in Germany and am checking out the upcoming events here to distribute some of the 22 TBs you guys gave me along... As the event is over I archived it and I will now also close this topic. Thanks again to all participating in the swap meet! Olaf aka TravelingViking
  11. Well, so far I "only" participated at about 10ish events and that is how the TB exchange was handled at those. What I like about this method is that it tracks the TB mileage properly... HOWEVER, I have seen TBs get lost at events which I really hate! So what I will properly do is to print a list of all the TBs that are in the event cache the evening before and keep track of who is taking which. FYI: In general I prefer that in terms of TBs cachers only log what they bring and take. However, as there are no strict rules about it - I guess its "log them the way you play the game"... Olaf
  12. Meeting details now online at: USA-Europe TB Swap Meet Thanks for the approval! C U Soon
  13. Unfortunately this is a six hour drive from where I live, I don't think I'll make it...
  14. FYI: I just officially submitted this as an event cache. Marina Park Grill in Kirkland on Sunday, November 14th around 6PM N 47° 40.517 W 122° 12.422 Thanks for all your help so far! Looking forward to seeing some of you Olaf
  15. You know how to catch a German's attention... Ah well, I assume there is good beer in the Marina, too.
  16. I would like to call for a little Germany-USA TB Swap Meet Event on Sunday, November 14th in the evening. I am coming from Germany on a business trip (always limits time available for caching ) but should be able to bring 10 or so TBs along. Someone recommended "Marina Park Grill" in Kirkland at 89 Kirkland Ave to me as a good place to meet (and just 10 minutes away from where I am staying). Does anyone happen to have the coordinates or know how to get them from any of the online maps? Thanks, Olaf aka TravelingViking
  17. Can we have this for Christmas please? ...
  18. Ooops, sorry, yes location is around Washington Dulles Airport. That's how you know you travel to much, if you use airport codes instead of city names... I'll add the recommended TB hotel to my list, still I would prefer not to drop all 10 in one location, so if you know of more please let me know. (sometimes there are "TB hotels" not really listed as hotels, but still used a lot for bug exchanges) Olaf
  19. I will be in the IAD area on a short business trip and will only have half day each on Sunday Oct-3 and Monday Oct-4 for caching. As I am bringing 10Tbs I am looking for recommendations on large, safe TB exchange places in the area. Please let me know... If anybody is interested, I would also be available to meet with cachers directly to exchange TBs - I can take bugs that like to go to Europe and or want the mileage. Olaf
  20. And that's why I keep track of TB miles: the total miles I moved TBs. Unfortunately its not a GC feature, so I am doing it manually with cut&paste into a spread sheet. Also, at all events I have attended so far a "only log what you brought/take" policy was used. Just yesterday at GHAGAFAP III - Third Time Lucky there were 100+ bugs - imagine all the 100+ cachers attending would log them all... At this point a big "Thank you" to Team Bean Burrito. They provided a nice TB exchange board and kept track of all TBs at the event to make sure none gets lost. Olaf
  21. Yes, it's a good thing there is variety! Here in our area (Hannover, Germany) you'll find many hard ones - but the good thing is they typically tell you in advance (I go caching with my daughter and had to "train" a few fellow cachers to include things like "not suitable for children" in their cache descriptions). So it's not like you have to carry your power tools along all the time - you will know when you need an electric cordless drill or a car jack - you will have a chance to prepare yourself - or a chance to skip that one... (See Extended Standard Cacher's Equipment at the Watertree http://www.newvikings.com/geocaching/watertree.htm). BTW: So far all of those who found this cache loved it! Olaf
  22. The exchange event is set for August 5th, 5PM. GCK1XP: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCK1XP If there are still travelers left going to Belgium, I will take one, or more if the rules permit that.
  23. I released Traveling 10k http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=70478 (22lbs) at an event recently. The next day it was up a mountain - no paths for a mile - the following day someone else brought it down again. I think these are fun - maybe I'll do a large terracotta flower pot next... Olaf
  24. As a TB addict I posted this to the TB forum, however, someone suggested that this might be a better fit... I am scheduled for a 4 day business trip from Germany to California (San Jose/Bay Area) and unfortunately will only have very limited time for caching. As I am going to an event here in Germany just 2 days prior to my trip, there is a good chance that I will bring some 5 to 10 TBs from Europe. I would like to call for a "TB Exchange Event" in that area on Wednesday, 4th of August in the evening so that I can possibly exchange them safely "all in one cache". Of course, I would like to help those TBs that wanna go back with me to Europe, too Questions: as a German Cacher, will I be able to call for / submit an event for Northern California? And if yes, any recommendations for a location (and coordinates?!) - as I am far away I couldn't really check it out in advance... As I will just have a few hours, I thought about just an exchange meeting at some cafe or so. Thoughts? Help? Olaf
