Often the clues say use the Digital Root. What does this mean?

I have found a few caches, but lately I seem to be at a loss. I have been to four caches lately, the coordinates line up, but alas, I can't find the cache. One of these caches I've been back to four times. Even after reading all the logs and looking for spoilers I seem to be useless. Is there a technique I am missing? I've checked my GPS it doesn't seem to be the culprit. Any pointers would be appreciated. Austy

After much trial and error, and some helpful hints from other goecachers, I have finally found my first cache. Past Your (Pasture) Prime. I left a buffalo lapel pin from the great north, and took a red star to put on the back of my GPS. Still haven't found Walk Around the Pasture. Beats watching TV.

I'd like to be able to say I found my first cache, but this is the second try at an easy location, coordinates given, but still no cache. My GPS said I was within 1m but short of digging up all the leaves around the shrubs in a very highly populated bus stop area, I just couldn't find the cache. (Past your (pasture) Prime). This is my second failure today. Yuk.
