  1. What a bunch of sheep you people are. Just hand over your cash when they decide to start charging for it. By all means, dont stand up for individual liberties! Thank God I still live in a state with freedoms!
  2. Is it acceptable to hide a hamster cache in a microwave? Seems like a good way to keep the hamster warm during cold months.
  3. When my unit was put onto alert for possible deployment a couple years ago, I told my wife that one thing I wanted to have with me in Iraq was a GPS. She bought me one for that next Christmas. She asked if I had ever heard of geocaching. I thought it sounded kinda stupid, but while sitting at home one day I was bored and decided to look into it. I was shocked to see caches listed in my town. Rest is history. At least if the wife ever complains about me running around for geocaches, I can blame it all on here! LOL
  4. LOL, no but when the oil that fills that transformer rains down fire on the surrounding buildings could be quite fun to watch!
  5. What the others have said. If you don't find it, you log a DNF and move on. This has happened on my caches. The most obvious spots don't make for the best hiding spots, and carefully made camoflage only stands out when you look at it just right (or not at all). DNF logs don't always mean that the cache isnt there. One cache (whale watching) in New Orleans has more DNFs than smilies, but it's there and plain as day if you look in the right spot.
  6. If I spend time at GZ, searching for a cache, but with no joy I log a DNF. I won't keep logging them though. I have a cache in Iraq that I have been to about 10 times. But I have only logged 2 DNF's IIRC. It is annoying that apparently most people don't DNF. I have gone after caches that had geo-trails and the entire GZ was stopmed flat. But no "finds" or "DNFs" or any logs of any kind in months. If there are enough people to cause that much damage, there are a ton of people too insecure to log DNFs. Failure to log DNFs is taking away important info from the owner and future cachers.
  7. I'm partial to "rollin" by Limp Bizkit. Of course that might not be the tone you want for your video.
  8. Your father and my great-uncle might have known each other. My G-uncle was in the Bulge too. He didn't say much about it.
  9. If you follow the link to Biggest Drawing In The World you will see a disclaimer that the actual drawing is a fake. I would say more than just the drawing is a fruad. first, that disclaimer wasn't there before. It's just been added in the last day or so. Secondly, What about all the pics and the movie? The pics of the DHL shipping reciepts, the movie about the travels. A complete and total fraud. I thought so from the start. You've never heard of movie making? You do realize all those films in theaters and on TV are "a complete and total fraud" don't you? But than again, if it's on the internet it has to be true, right? Yeah, [potty mouth removed by moderator] I know what a movie is. A movie also has a disclaimer that the events aren't real. He stated that they were and offered up "proof" of the validity of the movie. I can claim to go find 1000 caches tomorrow and offer up the internet logs as proof. I guess thats fine in your book, huh?

  11. The thought has crossed my mind, but most caches are visited only a few times a week/month. The amount of animals (and wind moved foliage) that would activate it would waste a lot of film/batteries. And it's likely to get stolen if left in place a long time. Just my 2 cents worth.
  12. Sorry for the post. I must have been having a bad hour, or day or something when I wrote that. I do know what GeoWoodstock is, just never saw it written as GWVI. I don't usually have a lot of time to read many threads. So again, apologies for the attack.
  13. True, most people seem to have no clue when it comes to trading swag. Personally, I don't trade. I sign the logbook and see if there are any bugs/coins to move along. In my own caches, I started them out stocked with some decent stuff; emergency ponchos, water bottle clips, compasses and brand-new toys for the kids. I would rather that people just took what they wanted and left nothing. I pulled a cache last week for maintenance and found a torn up baseball, religious advert cards, and dirty/used/broken toys. I am going to have to restock my caches from time to time, so if you come across one of mine, just take an item. If all you have is dirty/broken/used crap, keep it.
  14. Thats pretty cool! I hadn't thought of using caching to play a game of connect-the-dots to solve. I may have to work on something like that for my local area.
  15. Become a premium member becuase you enjoy geocaching, and your membership helps support this website.
  16. Do you mean Vendor Booth? Did they have any specials? Yes it was a vendor both, I did not ask about any deals, it was more of an infromation both. As a rule most manufactures do not sell directly to the public, their dealers do not like it when they have to compete with a supplier. I thought it was kind of strange with all the support Garmin and Delorme gets from the geocaching community that they would not have anyone there to represent their companies. First off, care to explain exactly what "GWVI" is? This thread loses almost all meaning without knowing the context. Secondly, if you want to bash non-maggi GPSr, it would also help your case if you used spell checker. Rants that look like they were written by my 6yo, just make me laugh at you.
  17. It is most likely NOT your GPS. There are all kinds of atmospheric problems that can degrade your margin of error. Another thing I have noticed has to do with the brand of gps (and the user) that set the coords. I find that my garmin is typically right on the money with other garmins. When I search for a magellan coord, I usually can't get any closer than 30-40 feet. Sometimes the cache owner was just lazy and didn't average out the waypoints. I have been having a heck of a time with a new local cacher who's coords are consistently off. Sometimes as much as 200 ft. I almost think they are intentionally posting soft cords, it is so consistantly bad.
  18. I completely disagree. I have the 60csx model use the E-compass every outing. Occasionally it needs to be re-calibrated, but that takes about 30 seconds. If you are using the compass correctly, it helps out alot. Once you get within the margin of error your GPS is experiencing at the moment, it will start to jump around, but you are at GZ anyway.
  19. I call BS. The delivery company would have to make so many unsceduled routes and stops. Even if he made the attempt as claimed, it wouldn't look anything like that. It would look more like modern art than a portrait. And how does the GPS battery last 55 days? How did the GPS never lose signal lock while packed ina case, packed with tons of other boxes inside of plane, train and boats and auto? And if he was along for the entire trip, why "mail" the GPS package? He had an Etrex in his hand in part of the movie. I'd like to know the details, because too much of this doesn't add up.
  20. Not meaning to change the subject, but don't you have some caches down here in the El Paso area? I know I've seen your GC name locally.
  21. I just started using GSAK a few days ago. Yesterday I used it load every cache from Kuwait and Iraq (just over 300 IIRC)into my GPS. Took all of about 4 seconds to load. Now if I could just figure out the sorting strings to make it load just like I used to do by hand.
  22. No, it's not really "buried" in the term being used. The top of the container is exposed above ground, and no digging is required. The foundation of my house is under the ground, but my house isn't "buried" either. Mingo is one of the caches on my list of "must gets"
  23. Beat me to it! That's just what I was going to say.
  24. Not a big deal in my eyes. If the owner makes it possible, then it's possible. I did it just this morning becuase I didn't want the stages to get muggled. First 3 stages were in a ball park complex. The first was right directly in front of a muggle in his car. But the page description said the "first 3" went clockwise around the fields. Now, not only was a muggle staring right at #1, but ball teams were showing up, even though it was 8:00 in the morning. So I went to where the last one had to be to get the final coords. I'm happy, and the stages are safe. We all win.
