  2. I need your help. My Niece has become missing last friday (sept 19) from Brenden Theaters in Modesto CA. I would like to ask for your help when you are out caching. She has been seen in some parks in the area but we have not found her yet. If you could keep an eye out, we would appreciate it. I am currently working with the admins on a way to get the pdf file uploaded. It is a large file (about 10 megs). Please feel free to contact me via my profile. I will get the flyer up here as soon as I can. larger image Flyer (PDF) Her name is Kelly Ray Morriston. She is a white female of 14 years. 3. While looking for a cache (hidden in some bushes at a busy intersection), someone walked by and saw me looking at my GPS unit. All he said was "Can you hear me now? Good" (from the Verizon wireless commercial) and walked away. DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep
  4. I would be happy to help as well. It looks like based on the responses that you would have a well rounded "global view" of the sport. Feel free to email me... DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep
  5. Our Prayers are with everyone. May God bless this nation and others as well. Though I have only met one other cacher, this group is a great group. The unity in this board is wonderful and I am thankful to be a part of it. God Bless all of you!!! DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep
  6. DiverMan, My prayers are with everyone.
  7. I forgot to mention. Another good addition is a cell phone. I bring mine with me. Also, if you get into big hikes, let people know where you are going and when you plan on being back. Use common sense. Later. DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep
  8. Welcome to the sport!! It will be a lot of fun. Snipe33 has some good suggestions. Also bring some small trade items (I keep several in my pack). I started off with the easy ones close to home because I am familiar with the area and it gave me a chance to get use to my gps unit. First and foremost, be safe. With any sport, if you are not comfortable with it, DON'T DO IT. If it's too hard, then you lose interest. Get your family involved as well. My kids love to go out and look at the "treasure". Have fun and be safe!! DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep
  9. Hi All, I Have the Legend and I love it. I have not had any problems at all. I have noticed though (not just with the Legend, but with everything that takes batteries) that you get what you pay for. I prefer Duracell (no, I am not a salesman ). You will also notice that as the batteries "wear" a bit, your accuracy will drop. Have a great day!! DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep
  10. I am a Software Quality Assurance Engineer (AKA: Nerd), They write it, I break it. But of course the code that I write is perfect DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep

  12. I use the Garmen Legend as well. It is small and has a lot of cool features. I got mine at Best Buy and it did come with a download cable. I am able to download waypoints from this site without any problems. I have heard that Garmin is better than Magellen but I don't have first hand experience with them. Good luck and happy hunting. 13. I know how you feel. When I first got my GPS unit, I was up until 2 in the morning just playing around. Once I got to my first cache site, I couldn't find it. I really thought that this was a big joke (really, I did ). I didn't give up and I actually found one. My record isn't that great looked for 10 found 2 . Good Luck and be safe DiverMan
  14. Hi, I had the same problem when I first got mine. What you need to do is connect the cable with the unit off then start EasyGPS then turn on the unit. Try that. I also had to play with the com settings (via FilePreferences then click settings for the unit). DiverMan
