  1. Oh crikey, scarey stuff. Will geodog attack on command? Thanks for explaining the simple way to use the phone, I'm not sure I would have worked it out for a while.
  2. I bought mine at the weekend but haven't had chance to play with it yet. I did use my old iphone for paperless caching and even got a ftf when the cache was published and popped into my email while I was out and about. I need to trawl through apps to see what would help with storing pdf's etc. I'm thinking that maybe the MobileMe cloud might help but it still depends on the 3G signal strength and I'm not really sure what it does yet.
  3. Actually I was referring to the thread in this UK section but thanks for pointing that one out.
  4. I know there was a thread when the new iphone was announced as having GPS but looking back there wasn't much discussion. Has anybody got one and used it for caching? Is it possible to use it to enter co-ords at all?
  5. We picked up 3 in Canterbury yesterday, one for us, one each for two teams who couldn't make it to the shop. I'm posting theirs to them on Monday so they can start playing too. Another one reluctant to let ours loose here in Kent. I'll be drilling it first, not that drilling them has had any effect on them disappearing down here I'll start it off in a local cache then send it out of the county to travel.
  6. Our stolen/missing coins went missing in Kent, they are all drilled and had keyring tags on them. I wouldn't mind if they had got a bit further than the county. We're not releasing any more down here until things settle down or something can be done about the culprit(s). At first we were upset but it's only a £5 loss each time, it would cost us more in petrol to go and collect them back!
  7. Beamish is an absolute must, Kielder is pretty but lots of mosquitoes. Bamburgh is my favourite place on earth. If you like Indian food there used to be a fabulous restaurant in Corbridge above a book shop opposite the church but it's 12 years since I moved south. Alnwick gardens and castle is a good day out, be sure to visit the cursed wine bottles in Alnwick!
  8. We went to a cache last week while we were away and the nettles were chest height so we didn't even bother trying to get through them, we could almost guarantee one of the kids would have fallen over into them
  9. Thank you for your help and suggestions. We managed to find 10 caches, one DNF due to head high nettles. My sister was not enthusiastic at all about going out with us but she came, found the first one and really enjoyed herself, especially some of the more historic caches. Laura stayed in the van for a few, insisting she wanted to watch but she did find one on her own (with a nudge in the right direction) but squealed when it had bugs on it! We did look at some hard puzzle caches in Alnwick but didn't really have the time to do them so we left them for another visit.
  10. I think you need a parallel port to USB connector because it only takes an old parallel cable. I had one and couldn't get it to work with either my G5 or macbook. I used it manually for a while then bought a Garmin 60csx which uses a USB cable, I use macaching to download and transfer to my Garmin. It also transfers the text from the listing to my ipod nano into the notes section for paperless caching.
  11. Binbags may be interested, I'll mention it later today Edited to say that I just looked at them and see they both seem to be missing, do you want somebody to replace the caches and take them over? What about the trolley ones near Whitstable - will they up for adoption too?
  12. We have a few MIA but we keep our fingers crossed that they will turn up one day.
  13. That's a great help, thank you so much for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.
  14. We are soon going on holiday up to Berwick/Bamburgh for a week and would like to go caching while we are there but I don't have much local knowledge apart from the good beaches! Can anybody suggest some caches with short walks (less than half a mile in total) or suitable for a wheelchair please? My young niece has Down's Syndrome and is unable to walk very far but we want to go out all together so that she can find some boxes too. We don't mind what sort of caches they are or the difficulty as long as the terrain is easy.
  15. Thanks, through geocaching we have become great friends and had so much fun. Binbags made us a special hairband each for the occasion! We chose an excellent puzzle cache by The Moor We Hunt in a beautiful wood filled with bluebells. Thanks also to Team Skully's mentors, MeerRescue.
  16. Due to ill-health I usually don't choose anything more than a mile unless it's a multi on a circular route which I could tackle with a rest in between. We got lost on our second cache in some dark woods and ended up walking 9 miles, it took me days to recover but I did still enjoy it.
  17. I started Geocaching and collecting coins in October 2007 and daren't even work out how much I have spent on ebay. The most I paid was for an artist edition Earth Turtle, at $110. I wouldn't buy a coin if I didn't like the design no matter how rare it was.
  18. We have a second user account "Skully's Treasure Chest" and grab the coins from Team Skully to store there. It keeps them off our inventory and they can still be discovered.
  19. I bought a green and purple and have to say I wasn't sure about the purple version but it is my son's house colour at school so i bought it for him. I'm looking forward to seeing them both now
  20. Which would explain why no caches have been logged....
  21. So sorry to see you go, we wouldn't have managed to set up our caches without your help and advice and ESPECIALLY your patience. Great admiration for you both to stand up for what you believe in, you've left some big boots to fill. Thanks for all of your help.
  22. We are only newbies but want to say thank you for all of the work you have done and the time you have given.
  23. Hubs takes the mick, especially when we are shopping, holding things up saying 'this would be good for your geostuff' but he bought me a 60csx, some walking shoes, a stick and a fleece for Christmas. He will listen to our stories and look at photos when we come back from a caching day out. He drills our coins, he put our latest cache boxes together, drilling and bolting stuff. He came out on a night cache with us because we were too scared to go without him. But we can't get him to come out with us, he has his own interests, works very hard and has things he would rather do with his time off. He thinks it's a great pastime but just not for him. If the kids don't want to come and are stuck to their laptops I give them the choice between coming with me or tidying their rooms, they are usually dressed and ready in minutes! I am trying to convert my sister, we are going on holiday together with our children and she refuses to go 'geowhatsiting' but I've got a plan......
  24. Oh bum I didn't think of the GPS shortening the name when I set ours. We have the series name then each cache name. I haven't found out why but in two series that I have done, the names on the GPS are mixed up with co-ordinates from another cache in the same series. I had the PDFs and ended up having to check through the co-ords to see which one we were looking for. It's not a huge problem but a bit confusing.
  25. We drill ours and put a key ring on each with an explanation and a mission. We set a spy coin away and it was stolen from its first cache, not even a visit logged to the cache.
