Hey, these packs are great...I've been looking for exactly that kind of thing and hadn't settled on anything yet. I'm going to buy the FatBoy Versipack (manpurse...lol). I am always trying to put my sunglasses, cellphone, GPSr, digital camera, pen, cache printouts, topo maps, snacks, etc. in my pockets and it's just a pain in the...well...pockets! Thanks for the link!
  2. Mine is an eTrex Vista. I love it. I take it everywhere with me. I never get lost anymore. I have every waypoint within 100 miles downloaded onto it. I love it. It's as small as an open flip cellphone and pretty too! It's well worth the money.
  3. When you reply to a message in the forums, you can click on the smiley at the top left of the reply text box. When you log a find, etc in the main pages, you can also access a menu of possible smileys and it shows you which keys to type to make it appear in the final post.

It's the second most posted to behind the poll question thread "What's the general age of people who geocache?". Which, still, in my opinion doesn't count. So, pretty much, yeah, this is the most viewed, most posted to conversational thread in the history of this forum. We only need 108 more posts to pass the poll question thread as officially "most posted to". Anyone up for the challenge?

I assure you I wasn't one of them. that is pretty lame to do that. come on, people. ~robert _Notice: Driver carries less than $20 cache._ Maybe I'm a jacka@@...Why is it so lame and awful to have sent AG a PM? I assure you I was one of them. I saw AG posting on an unrelated forum that I also read. It was such an odd coincidence that I almost couldn't believe it. Just thought it would be interesting to know how she came to be on both of my favorite forums. So I sent her a PM. She seemed absolutely fine with it and even told me to feel free to PM her anytime. What the H@ll is the big deal with that?!?

You know...my comment requesting photographic proof of AuntGiGi's reality with the USA Today was completely sarcastic. I was trying to point out how ridiculous it was that anyone had to prove anything in a forum. Especially whether or not they were real. She came back so fast with the photos that I was sure she was enjoying the farce. It makes me sick in the stomach that AuntGiGi felt harrassed and made fun of. I thought we were _all_ having fun...I came here today because I wanted to smile and giggle. Now I'm just upset. AG, I can't quite find which post finally made you mad... I know I have a very sarcastic and dry humor, and my wife has told me that it is nearly impossible to tell when I am joking or not in email because she can't hear the tone in my voice (which is often the only thing that gives away my jokes). This is why I wrote "SARK HAHA" at the end of my post (SARK=sarcasm; HAHA=joke) I think that is probably what happened here. I doubt that anyone said anything to be intentionally rude or hurtful. And I think that it is easy to forget there is a real living breathing human being behind the avatar (ironic that this lesson is being learned in this thread). We all need a reminder from time to time. We should post to each other the same way we would talk to each other if we were face to face. AuntGiGi, I'm sorry. I really am. Please come back. Everyone really likes you!

Before we all mutually decide to let this one float away... In the entire history of the Getting Started Forum... Excluding the first two threads, of course... This is the 2nd most viewed thread. (1st is "Caches filled with trash") This is the 3rd most posted to thread. (1st is "What's the general age of people who geocache?"; 2nd is "How did you hear about Geocaching?") The 1st & 2nd most posted to threads are just general survey threads and don't count IMO. I was bored and looked through all 66 pages of threads... It's also interesting looking all the way back you can see the exponential growth of the forum in recent months. So congratulations to AuntGiGi for being such a spark!

quote:Originally posted by mrmnjewel:Well, any definitive word on the truth about AG? Sock puppet or real? Or should her lack of input be answering for itself? I request that AuntGiGi post a photo of herself holding a copy of today's USA Today. Seems fair since she is the only one here who has failed to prove her true identity, and she insists on continuing the inflammatory use of that darn avatar! I mean, really, are we all supposed to just let this go? SARK HAHA
  13. I was reading a friends weblog and they had a link to WWDN (wilwheaton.net). Wil Wheaton is a sporatic geocacher and he has a discussion group devoted to it. I had never heard the word geocaching before, and peeped into the threads to see what it was. There were lots of newbie questions and I found a link to this site. A week later (like most of us) I had my Vista and my first cache. I am an addicted geek.

  16. Thanks to Olar from Ontario who offered his services to help me out on this cache. He's taking a road trip across my longitude and offered to snap the pic I need. Thanks Olar, you rock.
  17. Thanks for everyone's interest/comments, I found a fellow in Canada who is going to be able to do this cache with me on his way from Ontario to New Brunswick next weekend. Cool! Thanks anyway...

  19. quote:Originally posted by Bilder:Just checked. Barrow is at 71N. Prudhoe Bay is at 70N. Would need to take the haul road out of Fairbanks to get to those coords or an air taxi to a small village that lies along that Lat. Is that asking too much? I mean, come on! LOL, just kidding... Thanks anyway! Had no idea what it would entail.
  20. I had the same interest earlier when I was downloading individual .loc files. At least when you do a pocket query, the individual .loc files are named after the waypoints. Doesn't help specifically when downloading only one point, but you may not have known this. I didn't.
  21. I'm trying to pull of the Where's In A Name cache at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=12627 It's cool, but I need someone who can stand on the longitude 68W32.466 and take a picture of their GPSr. If you might be in the area, please read the cache I've linked and you might get to log a unique one, too! Thanks

  23. Nobody in this area (southern US) is going to be near your coordinate as any direction, but I think I'm going to try this one, too! Thanks for sharing.
