[A digital compass is more accurate than a conventional compass?]

I just purchased Garmin 60 csx. As you guys know, this unit has a digital compass. I don't know the accuracy of this digital compass. Is it more accurate or as accurate as the conventional compass?

Hello, I almost placed an order to buy U.S topo 2008. I found there is "U.S. topo 24K,east central and west" which seems a kind of higher version of topo. Would give me some advice what the difference is other than contour resolution and price and map coverage. Thanks in advance.

[Backlit of Garmin 60 CSX.]

Hello guys. I just received 60 CSX from Amazon and have been playing with it for a while. One bugging thing is I have to set up the backlight everytime I turn off and on. I'd like to set up 80% brightness and it turns off after 15 seconds permanantly. Thanks in advance.

[vista HCx vs. 60CSx]

-The Vista HCx has a better battery life (25 hours vs. the 18 hours the 60CSx offers)

-The Vista HCx is smaller and sounds a little more portable.

-Both seem to have pretty much the same exact features.

-The 60CSx has the external antenna built on which I'm assuming get's better signal.

-The 60CSx comes with a microSD card for maps (I already have a 2gb microsd I can put in)

 

I'd like to add some more points.

-60 has larger screen that is very important to bikers. Portabality is probably more important to hikers.

-eTrex H series has an accuracy problem with odometer. This issue has been discussed at this site and Gpspassion.com Gpspassion-eTrex H problem.

-Some sites say eTrex H series have better sensitivity than 60 Csx with SirfStar III chipset even if it has an external antenna. eTrex H series have MTK chipset

 

I ordered and received 60 Csx because of odometer accuracy problem.

I just placed an order for Garmin 60 CSx with 2GB microSD and consider to purchase US Topo 2008 about $60 at Amazon. I am going to use this unit for hiking since I have a Nuvi 350. Please advise me. Thanks in advance.

[Upgrading my GPS... any suggestions?]

I currently have a Garmin eTrex Legend and it's worked for me as a beginner. But I'm wanting to upgrade as I always seem to have problems keeping a signal in tree cover or even just on a cloudy day. I've never been able to get a reading better than a 30 foot range.

 

So if anyone could maybe post what they have and how they like it... pros/cons... that would be great.

I think what you want is Garmin eTrex Vista HCX or 60 CSx. Vista HCX is aout $100 cheaper but there is $50 mail-in-rebate promotion on 60 CSx. I liked a kind of a small form factor of Vista but I read a posting about a bug of eTrex H series. You probably want to read this link Gpspassion

Because of this bug, I just placed an order for 60 HCx at Amazon. I'm still considering returning 60 and reorder Vista because of the size and battery life. (60 Csx:18 hrs, Vista:25hrs)
